I'm sure I've seen a cut of this scene where after Cleese has said "Fetchez la vache!" for the second time, the other guard says "Quoi?" again and Cleese hisses back, "Get the cow!", thus setting up the running gag that the French guards aren't really French. Anyone else remember this or have I imagined it?
"Fetchez la vache!" One of my all-time favorite lines. Why I don't know. I think it's because of John's vocal inflection. It keeps popping up in my everyday dialogue. I love it! "Fetch the cow". I guess that the word "fetchez" is a creation of Monty Python. True or not? My more in-depth interpretation of this quote is, "Put on the hip boots. They're gonna be slinging some major bullsh*t, i.e., cow pies." :-)
@ProTwoAm Hi man! About "Fetchez la vache": I'm French, and what I hear sounds more like "Faites chier la vache", which is a slang way to say "bring the cow!' (we also say "faites péter" rather than "faites chier" in this case)
Sounds like he's saying "Faites chier la vache" which means "Piss the cow off" in french xD

I think the word "fetchez" is almost certainly a Monty Python creation!

@ProTwoAm "Fetchez" would actually be the correct way to conjugate the verb "To Fetch" if it were a french verb.
"Vous parlez", "Vous marchez", "Vous mangez" ... "Vous fetchez" !
