@seka1986 whilst we're on the topic, i mentioned that not going into n. vietnam and destroying the ho chi minh trail DOES sound similar to what reagan did. he sent american marines over to lebanon, and they were ordered NOT to fire back. (which negates the use of sending troops anywhere with weapons). his order cost the lives of 300 marines, and then he pulled them out.
we shouldnt have been in lebanon, vietnam or iraq/afghanistan (in my opinion). but obama did the best with what he had.

u.s. manpower and materiel made the difference on the western front, north africa and of course the pacific. by taking on the work of the pacific theater for the most part, england was able to use its navy/army in europe.
the u.s. had more men and equipment than england and france.period.

@BillKiernan U.S Forces arrived late in the war. 1940, After the biggest Air-Battle in history Britain was SAFE from any invasion. Also by 1942 the British had defeated the Axis in Africa,Mid-East. And most of all the Red Army who was fighting the MAIN Axis Forces. Without the U.S the Allies would have won-FACT! However Communism would occupy most of Europe and be on Britains doorstept. try again. the british steered clear of vietnam, and amazingly, the new french government of the 1960s did as well.
AUSTRALIANS and NEW ZEALANDERS were there, and they performed well. their numbers were, by nature, small.

@martynrobin121 about 312,000 s. koreans served in vietnam between 1962 and 1973. they claimed about 42,000 n. vietnamese/viet cong kills. (and were blamed for many war atrocities with 5,000 or so civilians killed).
2.7 million americans served in vietnam. thus, though the 'help' was welcomed by the u.s., they hardly needed it.
