  • Yeah I've been working on this for three days now and I've only gotten to the 4/4 after the 6/4. Coming from a low-class high school drumline, there's a lot of rudiments I've never played before. Tough stuff.

  • @Bladeboy311 yea i kno....im cumin from a little high and were not quite on dis level yet...i havent started workin on this 1 yet bcuz i broke 1 ov my sticks playin sum cold steel stuff up here..but i plan to start asap

  • So I cracked down and finally managed to get the rest of it done. It's rough... but it's there.

  • learn hybrid rudiments and practice practice PRACTICE!!! show ur sction leader sum advanced stuff... dont worry u just gotta practice

  • well the first time through is to show how it is slow so people could how it goes, but when he plays it the second time through he plays it at the correct tempo.

trust me i checked, i synced up this video with the one of the Blue Devils

    and its perfect.

so before you go off sounding like an asshole check your shit first.

  • @a7xfan1230 that is except for the tap off in the beginning

if any of u have latin lover i will trade it for ditty 08 remix

  • which version i have the very first one perez wrote

  • super helpful

  • I like your style when you play--loose but precise.

I have a suggestion, though--you might want to loosen/tweak your left hand just a little bit more.

Tap heights when fast are also a minor problem, but overall you are a very good player.

  • Most likely a majority of his flaws as a player are a result of playing a practice pad on the lap; the arms are forced to raise and one must compensate by raising tap heights to avoid excessive rim shots.

  • Exactly what I was going to say, except I was going to use smaller words . . .

  • you're great. i just with you'd use a met.

  • awesome dude. you should've thrown in the solo

  • second time is a little fast.

    still great :)

  • If anybody has

Blue Devils Double Beat 2005 I'll trade u any:

Rcc Jedi Knight - snare & quad

Grievous Groove - full score or snare

    Much Others.

  • i have the 2004 version, you want it for rcc jedi knight

  • marcus is a homo haha

  • screw you connor=P

  • all good except you have a lil bit of a slice on the right. it didnt seem to effect your playing so its allright i guess

  • are those Scott Johnson's, Ralph Hardimons? I cant tell

  • they look white, so I think they're Hardimons

  • They're SSJ's. The white is just tape.

I can tell because the maple at the butt end of the stick.

  • he wrapped them with tape,

    they are scojos,!!!!!!

  • Nice piece!

    double beat 04

    and others

  • dude, nice video. the good part is that you can play it slow and fast. most people play it slow and it sounds like crap but you have excellent diddle control.

  • watch the second left flam in the third measure. other than that, kick-ass.

  • hey, i just noticed you missed a couple of the butt ends. one somewhere before the triplets and one at the end.

  • hey man great job but just one little tip on how to make it even better is during the fast part keep the non-accented notes even lower and keep the accents the same height you have been playing them... overall great job bro keep up the good work!

  • damm dude thats bad ass... especially when u played the fast part good job man

  • yeah i just got the sheet music for this today... i was just wondering how long it took u to learn it?

  • watch your right hand index grip, that finger was klind of loose.

  • Also, you're chopping both hands from what I can see (I can see that you are chopping your right, it looks like your chopping your left too...) Just work on that a bit, it helps with speed and cleanliness, also looks better.

  • well if he has been playing on a tilted snare

thats how your technique needs to be for the tilt

  • if my previous post went through, im retarded anyway. its 116 bmp in 4, but then at the 2/4 bar (tenor 8th notes on spock)modulates so 8th note triplets become those strait 8th's. wtf

  • its at 116 in 4/4, but 2 measure after the snare tenor solo it modulates so 8th note triplets are now strait 8th's

  • nice dood

  • the time signature for the song is actually in a really slow 4/4 bbut it has some changes like during the break down part the link I got the music from got shut down so I don't know where you can find the actual version of it

  • you're awesome.

    seriously.

  • I can actually play it top to bottom but I'm working on getting the sticking down...I'm def not at that second tempo tho..thats alittle too fast I think

  • i was tryin to play that shit its harrd as hell was it hard for u at first

  • during the fast section, your left hand paradiddles are a little closed off. Make sure to keep them open and sounding clean.

  • u know it well just work on ur timing homie

  • For those of you who have been asking for the sheet music to this, simply go to Google and type in 'Grievous Groove sheet music'

It should be the first link... The title of the link is 'Sheet Music Library'

Just scroll down and you'll see it. It opens as a .pdf file. So there ya go :)

  • Except it's transcribed wrong.

  • Watch the measure at :35 and 1:35, beside that good job.

  • hey, how fast do you play the first "slow" version? and how fast do you play the "fast"? are you going the full 220 bpm as written???

  • oooo. haha ok

  • I can tell u watch alot of phantom reg. am i right?

  • dude, this is BD drumline. not PR

  • lol i kno that.its your technique... watch some videos and you will see what im talking about

  • oh, i get it. and its not my vid.

  • Yeaah, same with SCV.

Technique, Right hand is 3rd, 4th, 5th are really tighter than the front 2, which gives the snare drum better sound quality.

SCV and PR do that I think. Cos I get lessons from Cohay the drum instructor for SCVC and he explained it to me.

  • tripolet run was kinda funny after snare-tennor solo.

  • props for slowin it down :)

  • Pretty good overall. It seems like you do have just the slightest bit of tempo issue throughout the whole thing, but it's barely noticeable. Also, I'm not very knowledgeable on how a middle finger fulcrum works; just make sure you have a fulcrum throughout the whole ram. The singles run in the slow version seemed like your right hand had very little fulcrum at all; again, I'm not very knowledgeable on middle finger fulcrum but that's how it looked from here.

  • where can you get the sheet music

  • lol.. slurp slurp slurp at 1:46

  • I'll take it

  • slabbin' @ 1:48 ..lol slurp slurp

    good job

  • is that 4 let in the begging start with a paradiddle-diddle??

  • In the 16ths, yes, the 36nds, no.

  • what is that four-let in the second measure?

    idk how to play it.

  • At the 4-let it is rather insane, but i think it goes with the 2hand accent AND diddle (same note) carried out with the r l r diddles (all 32nds) thats just my interperitation, however I can be wrong.

  • Its not a traditional modulaton. You have to feel how to place 8 EVENLY SPACED notes in the place of Three(3) 16th notes. The sticking is 'Rlrrllrr' Its pretty quick when you play it at tempo, but once you get it, it flows. Have fun with it.

    ~DN

  • i don't stick rlrrllrr, i do (tap off) r / r /| r rlll rrllrrllr| r ll r.....i find it easier.

  • after the second flam its a diddle with the right then 2 eighth notes with the left then its a quick single

if you aren't doing it that way

then dont play it bitch -_-

  • yeah, thanks a7xfan, boosie....dont play it if your not playing it right.

  • lol

    "fuck the visual"

    good shit

  • hey im learning this right now, what is that four let in the second measure. i'm not sure how to play that.

  • hey, good job. but take a look at youre playing zone. most of the time you dont play in the center.

  • What kind of pad is that? Random question, I know... but other than that, very good runthrough, and the slow part was good in instruction.

  • When you play it fast, the '8:3' parradiddle lick is a bit slow. Also, you are playing a parradiddle at 0:14 and 1:19. It should be played as three 16th note triplets (Rrr-sticking) Lastly, don't rush the paradiddle passage at 1:31

*The only reason that I've taken the time to write this is b/c you are the closest to playing it correctly, that I've seen on youtube, so why not be critical. Keep it up

    ~DN

  • ahahaha i like the stick trick in the end of ur fast run

    "ah screw it" lol

that was pretty good dude. i guess the only thing to comment on is that you have to remember to play in the center of the head

  • really kool, just look over the sheet music again, your adding some flams that shouldnt be there, but hey u got it down more that me! :P

  • where did u get the music?

  • great job dude can you put a transcription of that up? or tell me where i can get a transcription of it?

  • hey man that was really good the only problem i really noticed was that during the slow run through you slowed down on the second half of the six-tuplets. other than that it was great

  • cleanest i've seen on youtube. (apart from the devils themselves of course.)

  • well done dude. that was really clean. its nice to watch someone break something down. funny thing is a lot of DCI guys can play crazy shit, but can't play it at all slow. what happened to the last visual ?! haha

    p.s. what line(s) are/were you on?

  • there are some parts where accents are missed or played that arent writen and i think you sped up some of the paradiddle-diddles. but good hights good even sound. i would tell you to loosen up but dont loose those hights haha. good job.

  • this is reaaally gooood! great heights!!!

  • THat was pretty much the best version played by anyone on youtube yet i think. THe only thing i could say at all and are very picky is to pull your shots back a bit and i think you slowed down just a tad at the herta triplet part after the solo. But that was sick nasty no lie. nice job!

  • CLEAN!!! This was beautifully done, very nice, you better get your but in a dci or dca or wgi corps, I don't care, just don't let the world of marching percussion miss on your chops if your not already in one. LOL

  • This was added on my birthday. :]

  • awesome this is what everybody should do. keep it slow to develop good stick heights and sound quality. good vid man

  • hey man good job i appreciate the fluid stroke and the attention to the tempo the bd usually adheres to. it looks like a cavie playing this exercise. cool.

  • to add on to that, i love the dynamics here, this is the ONLY video that ive seen on youtube so far (besides the ones of the blue devils of course) that plays this the right way. the fast time wasnt AS good as the slow but its still better than everyother video ive seen of this. i applaude you
