  • r.i.p great grandad<3 iloveyou:(

  • Thank God for the people of Britain standing alone against tyranny in 1940, and thank you for this sweet and special video

  • The comments of this video gives me hope that humanity has hope, if only everyone in the world could be as loving as the people who have commented.

  • We should thank these men who died everyday without them protecting england my grandmother may have died there

  • A fantastic song with the addition of the beautiful sound of the Rolls Royce Merlin - could you ask for it much better?

  • this was back when pilots were pilots and had to actually fly their planes instead of playing with a computer. You needed mad skills, courage by the truckload and maybe a little bit of insanity to fly and survive. The Battle of Britain was courage at it's finest.

  • They were free mavericks who could fly there planes majesticly . The jerry's only knew how to fly in formation, break the formation they were like big fat sitting ducks

  • People need to start showing some respect to this song and clip. You have no taste if you feel this is a need to argue. Just be grateful that people gave their lives for our safety and our future. Just show some god dam respect!

  • My dad flew on of these in WW2, he's dead now - but this song always makes me cry as I played it at his funeral.

  • @Lillyvon: Salute and grateful thanks to your Dad and all the other brave men who fought alongside him. Rest in well-earned peace.

  • @MrCutsteel That is so very kind of you. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. It's brought a tear to my eye. You are truly a lovely person. xx

  • Congradulations, excellent!!!!!

  • Songs like that, never age ;)

  • You gorgeous, gorgeous girl.

  • @2349DF

    Vera was indeed beautiful :)

  • @NaughtyBastardIsh I meant the plane!

  • The sound of the engines give me goosebumps... so beautiful.

  • Hitler didn't want to take over Europe, he wanted to conquer territory for the Germans in Eastern Europe. He planned a war with Poland and the Soviet Union but never wanted war with Britain. When Britain and France declared war on Germany on Sept.3, 1939 this caused the war to spread westward. Put down the comic book WWII History and try reading some of serious historians like Hugh Trevor-Roper. TV and Hollywood has really distorted history.

  • @davidsan01 And of course his plan was definitely to invade France, he even pushed it earlier than his Generals wanted, and they were usually gung-ho when it came to invasions of France!

  • @thebigJM92 That's true, and the fact France, albeit having the largest army in Europe, were not prepared for a blitzkrieg attack on there frontier. The French still had the mentality of WW I tactics and were largely more defensive in their thinking. Hence the The Schlieffen Plan by the German Army - bypass the Maginot line and go round the side (so to speak). Once the Germans were behind the French frontline, then there was no hope.

  • Surely at least someone here should credit RJ Mitchell, the inventor of the Spitfire?!?!?

Well i just have, thanks to you're foresight and ingenuity.... we had a weapon of freedom!

  • Brings a tear to my Japs eye!

  • beautiful, simply beautiful.

  • deze vliegtuigen hebben groot Britania en de hele vrije wereld behoed voor het kwade !!!!!!Thanks !!!!!

  • I thank from bottom of my heart that the brave personnel of the RAF and British people for stopping the EVIL to expand, and I thank to today's world which barely permits me to write this!

  • Today is the 11th of the 11th 2011 I often think of the huge debt that we owe to

the heroes of all the Forces who didnt give a second thought when asked to

defend this Country, To each and every one you were unselfish and did give the ultimate sacrifice. I give you my sincere thanks and praise.

  • I'd get a chubby to fly one now, but crap myself back then.

  • Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.

    Winston Churchill......

  • What would have Mr Churchill thought of the shambles we have made of it all? He would have stubbed his cigar out on those Euro softwits and their new-age human rights crap.

  • my favorite WWII fighter.

  • The Rolls-Royce Merlin and Vera Lynn sound beautiful

  • Simply awesome display of this iconic airplane

  • Those really were the good old days. Such a shame that if any of those men who gave their lives would see the mess this country is in today they would be turning in their graves.

  • i lerant this song in primary school

  • Long live the Islamic Republic of Great Britain

  • A NYer here to say thanks to all who fought so bravely in WWll. Bless England and the English.

  • Is this Vera Singing? Man we need the "Greatest Generation" today, our county is hurting. The war continues. God bless WW2 veterans and all veterans.

  • amazing graphics

  • Thank you.

  • i'm 13 and it brings a tear to my eye to see what has become of our beloved england. During ww2 we refusd to surrender and brave men though and died so that my generation could have its freedom. and what have we done with that freedom that people were prepared to go down to the last man to protect?, what has the whole of england done with it? :'(

  • @pelamar121 I love England. I was curious what you meant by "what has become of our beloved England."

  • @pelamar121 my dad fought in ww2, use 2 tell me that they'll always be an england and england shall be free... and Iam an american

  • @pelamar121 the government happened. and i agree with everything you say i think the younger ones like you and me see stuff like this and wonder what has happened to england in a span of 60 - 70 years :(

  • @pelamar121: I'm 58, not 13, an American (not of Anglo-Saxon extraction), yet I too feel tears welling up in my eyes when I see what has become of your beloved England. The brave resistance of the British people when England stood alone for an entire year--from the fall of France to the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union--was a great inspiration to people all over the world. But as long as young people like you can shed a tear for that England, hope remains for her future. Cheerio!

  • @pelamar121 Your going to have to do it all over again, history repeats itself don't-cha know

  • @pelamar121 You have an old spirit to see so true and so hard a thing.

  • @pelamar121 me too and i'm 14 :'(

  • @pelamar121 You tell us.

  • @pelamar121 It's not what England has done with it,the fault lies with the governments on both sides ,who have systamatically destroyed the best country in the world with theair corruption and hare brained ideas ,and repeatedly blamed each other for it.

  • R.J. Mitchell was a genius to design such a beautiful machine that is a joy to be flown by all pilots who have had that pleasure and the growl of Rolls Royce Merlin engines sends a tingle down my spine very time I hear them. It is such a shame that so many young men lost their lives in these birds but I am so thankful that their sacrifice was not in vain.

  • This is beautiful.

Vera Lynne, the sounds of the aeroplanes, everything........

    Your mixing is spot-on!.

What is before 'this', you clearly have 'history, ability.

    Hmmmmmmmm?.

  • Fantastic! Great to see and hear!

  • Song made me cry.

  • Brings a tear to this old airman's eye...

  • beautiful sound

  • I hate how these days the media and the government seem to want to deny us our history, our heritage, our identity, our national pride.

I'm only 24 and yet so damn proud of what those guys did for us. What they did for their family, their friends, for their country, for their future. We owe them a lot of respect and remembrance. Please everyone never forget those brave people who fought and died so that we can live.

    And enjoy the sounds.

  • This song and the beautiful Spitfire saved us, it sums the British up really! when our backs are against the wall. thats when we are at our most formidable, this Island race.

  • The music is a classic but the sound of the Merlin is beautiful. I was drawn to it more than the song.

  • @theorangebox999 Idon't think you would speak like that if you had served in any of the fighting services-anything to do with war is revolting-i'm speaking from personsal experience like many others

  • Never was so much owed by so many to so few!!!

  • awesome airplane, next to an f-22, its the best plane ever built

  • Never forget the few

  • And do the kids of today appreciate it !!,do they hell.

  • Please could you take a look at my video , I recently sang Well Meet Again for Help for Heroes Charity Event. My video is just above. thank you.

  • Thank god that those very young British men held out in 1940. Had ot not been for those heros Hitler would have won and the world would have been very dirrerent.....Thank you RAF folks.

  • I used to sing this song to my granddaughter when she was little. Her teachers were really curious as to how she learned this song. She still remembers it and her boy friend called her from out of town last night and asked if she would sing him a song because he had a tummy ache. She sang "The White Cliffs of Dover" because it always made her feel better. You never know what you do that might last forever.

  • The Merlin engine

    The sound of freedom..

  • Will the sons & grandsons of 1940 lie down in submission & give away to the Muslims what their fathers & grandfathers stopped the Nazis from taking from them?

    - I hope not.

  • @freeman8128 too right, they did not even need to make a "beachhead" like th Germans would have had to do

in WW2, we just invited them in

  • @freeman8128 NEVER EVER

  • it wasn't just the spiefires that won the battle of britain. It was also the hurricanes aswell

  • @MrGateway75 too right as well, as Hurricanes accounted for 60% of German planes shot down in Battle of Britain

  • @MrGateway75 It was a team job, don't forget the erks that serviced them, the people that built them, the various nationalities that flew and fought.

  • @harryfaber never would never do.

  • @harryfaber also the A A Gunners who defended the Airfields -l was on the guns at North Weald and Rochford

  • nothing sounds better than a rolls royce engine at 5:30 am

  • every time I see this or hear the sounds of a spit I get choked up, thank you boys

  • Do you hear that sound ??

    thats the sound of VICTORY!

  • thank god for all the armed forces of the 2nd world war ......THANKYOU.......you deserve so much yet ask for nothing .....TOTAL RESPECT AND HONOUR

  • the most ICONIC aircraft of all time, that you could possibly say , changed the history of the world

-and those who flew this magnificent aircraft, will testify, that "pound for pound",

probably the greatest aircraft ever made

  • @darkmossie633 think I'd have to give a slight edge to the P-51. LOL my dad flew them in ww2

  • @hotmn4u the p51s engines where crap until they replaced them with the merlin engine

  • @hotmn4u my dad flew spits...we owe them so much...he still recounts the stories

  • @669boy What Group was he in -l was in 11 Group at Duxsford in the A A it covered all S E England air defences

  • @candw87 RAF Leconfield think 249 squadron..Dad unfortunately bit vague now forgetting details

  • @669boy Please give him a big Thank you from me. He was one of the many who keep my family safe. Thanks.

  • @ourhousetx told him. nice smile on his face. thnx alot

  • @669boy :)

  • @hotmn4u the P-51 was useless at altitude and speed until it's original engine was fitted with the Merlin equivalent Packard engine. However once fitted it was a superb fighter with exceptional range (drop tank included). Even later versions of Spitfires were redesigned with the same wing shape as the Mustang. The Spitfire was more versatile in adopting different roles, but the Spitfire is so much more better looking. So they are both great planes!

  • Being tommorw is D-Day As a child I remember all these songs being played on the radio. It is always good to keep a part of history a live. Brings back memiors . Thanks

  • Between the Spitfire and the Hurricane which was mainly used in the Battle of Britain you could not find a finer aircraft . The sound from those RR Merlins is something out of this world

  • You haven't lived until you've seen a flight of Spitfires, Hurricanes, and Lancasters!

  • 19 People are terrorists.

  • @SardonicSkeptic roflmao!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • you ever hear a roll royce engine at 5am, my dad showed me

  • Whenever I return to England on the ferry from Calais, France and those glorious White Cliffs above the port of Dover get nearer and nearer I always think of those very brave Battle of Britain RAF fighters fighting off the invading Nazi Luftwaffe in the English skies above all those many years ago in the summer of 1940.

  • Beautiful SOng Stunning Video makes me feel ever so Proud to be English & British with a tear in my eye. Beautiful

  • thank you for giving you lives for mine and my kids freedom

  • Just Beautiful

  • THEY died,so that we might live in freedom!

    OUR HEROES!

  • what a haunting song

  • Maybe small ones for you! I'm bawling like a baby. 65 yrs old. Miss my uncles, who fought for US!

Val,Artie. LOVE you. THANK you VERA!

    An 11/11/45 baby

  • Just some tiny tears here...

  • what a sound, Iam a americanprfect

  • awesome plane and engine, let it to the brits to lead the way, like my dad told mr,there always be an england and she shall be free

  • very excelent films !

  • Simply perfect

  • I'm crying like a baby.....

  • What a handsome machine. Thanks for posting. :)

  • 20/20 :)

  • With all due respect to Vera Lynn--there is no singer in the world that can duplicate the melody of a Rolls-Royce Merlin V-12. Hats off from Canada.

  • Delightful, well done.

  • The soundtrack for this video is not by Benny Goodman & Peggy Lee, it's by Vera Lynn, so disregard the 'Song By.'

    Qualityman

  • the Merlins, one of the most iconic sounds of the war actually make this so much more poignant

and the levels of the engine sounds are just the right compliment to this, BRAVO

  • The engine noise is much too loud. Let Vera carry it. We know what fighters sound like.

  • This is a marvellous song, very great quality. Also the sounds of the fighters compliment it extremely well.

Would it be possible for me to download on a converter site to save onto my iPod?

  • Such an emotional song. i recently sang a ww2 song please take a look.

  • This is absolutely magnificent

  • What beautiful birds.

  • Such a great video, almost kind of sad in a way, keep it up.

  • This video was nicely put together! I especially like how I can hear the roar of the Spitfires, but they're not too loud. Kudos to Gregersgram!

  • @AppleSouffle

    Hello you sad little ev-LIE-utionist

I will make it my personal mission to destroy you, your propaganda, and your LIES on Youtube.

You're DONE posting comments you little fag. Understand?

Dont you dare threaten me you delusional little ape-man believer. You're as mentally ILL as they come. You have now made my watch list. Be scared you little TROLL.

NEVER comment my channel. You understand prick?

  • @AppleSouffle

    You're getting royally OWNED ;)

  • Just brilliant brings goosebumps and shivers to a would be pilot!!!

  • I deployed to Afghanistan with the 82nd Airborne and saw some combat, I am proud to have fought with a division that has a long proud history, but I wish that I was around in WW2 to be able to fly in combat.

  • I can just imange going of to war, Its not nice!

  • The sound of the planes deserves our respect.

  • school assembly

  • The sound of a Rolls Royce Merlin always gives me goosebumps. It's one of the most distinct sounds there is.

  • What an amazing piece of British engineering.

I adore spitfires and would love to fly in one someday. Alas, I wont, but I can watch them in vids like this and hear the wonderful Vera Lynne.

    Nice one!!

  • Wow... nothing can compare to the music, films, clothes, moments and machinery from the WW2 era ♥ Bless ♥

  • there is nothing a squadron of RAF spitfires cannot do

  • the sound of the engines blow away the snooze fest of a song...

  • Theres nothing like war times in 1930-1940s

its so nice to hear this song GOD BLESS ALL THE ALLIES!

  • Man, nothing else sounds as sweet as a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine! Pure beauty!

  • @MsDetroitMan117 no one makes an airplane like that anymore

  • @MsDetroitMan117 Iam an american and I agree

  • @MsDetroitMan117 i agree

  • Are there anything more beautiful in this world than a formation of Spitfires? : )

  • world war 2 planes are the best ever. I disilike jets.

  • HOT RODS OF THE GODS!

  • Man, you've got to love the Merlin engine sound.

  • Beautifull, tears in my eyes and a chocked throat. I was born in 1976, the son of a babyboomer, grandson of a grandfather who lived in occupied europe and told me the stories. And it was'nt romance at all. But this video does kind of sum it all up what happened in those days and what helped our grandfathers and grandmothers through that horrible time. I so vividly remember my grandparents looking away when hearing Vera Lynn and then starting to tell about the war.

  • if that isn't the most beautiful thing you'll ever see

  • @chrisjeffsmusic You do not have a soul

  • The sound of a merlin-1 Vera lynn-0. (sorry treacle)

  • Britain would be better than germany in ww2 if thay actually can spit fire. and conquer the world

  • Anyone in the US ARMY AIR CORP can remember the relief if he were flying into the sunset and hearing this song , there was a shoe factory in Germany that had to be bombed , lost alot of planes doing it , those altitude shells did the worst damage

  • very nice vid perfect balance of music and the planes engines - nice how video starts in b and w respecting the time period of the war . great vid

  • You Guys! This Video is about Spitfires ,Vera Lynne, WWII .This is not about F*CKUPS like Iraq or Afghanistan.

Although, Prescott Bush, Grandfather to George Bush,a banker, did help finance the NAZI PARTY in the '30's .

You still have to respect the Allied Forces made up of Commonwealth and US forces. But then , you still have to respect the Axis Forces.

Bankers caused all this shit. One other thing, my Father played a game of Darts with Vera Lynne when on a 1 week leave in a pub in UK.

  • you could not get this video any more perfect and she still going strong

  • Nicely done. Very nicely done.

  • Can you belive this lady? She sang for the soldiers during world war 2 - and there were complete silence when she sang for curage. She had her last performance at age 70 and still sang as clear<3

  • this song makes my heart melt, it's so beautiful and an amazing salute to those who defended britian in the war :P

  • @randomforever22 While I don't disagree with you as my father volunteered to fly Hurricanes or Spit Fires (and would've been a great one) he was refused due to his engineering qualifications being too valuable on the ground (thank goodness they did not survive very long). The song is about peace, not war.

  • how can 19 people possibly not like this...

  • how can 19 people pssibly not like this...

  • my nan helped build the spitfire

  • What a wonderful aircraft which helped - an instrument of war though - to make this world a better world. And what a lovely song then written as a counterpart to the Germans "Lili Marleen". Hat off to those brave jocks. Keep the memories alive!

  • @pipier100 shame that there's so few that can still fly. and its such a pity that we can't build anymore

  • "Who ever made this video i think did a great Job!"

  • Norman Wisdom wrote the lyrics for Vera Lynn for this song.

He sadly passed away 4th October 2010.

    RIP.

  • what a beautiful tribute, very emotional no matter how many times you watch it.we owe them so much,a massive thanks for this

  • beautiful....it made me cry

  • I found out the other day that the words "there'll be bluebirds over the white cliffs of Dover" meant our Spitfires and maybe Hurricanes too, it refered to the coulour of their undersides which whas painted blue for camoflage.

  • This is without a doubt the single best and most beautiful tribute to both the Spitfire and all those brave men who took to the air to defend Britain in WWII.

    .

Thanks for sharing gregersgram. I think I have watched this video at least a dozen times and it still is emotional.

  • God save the Queen! From Canada with love!

  • Great video, these aircraft singlehandedly secured air superiority in the skies above Britain and the channel against the Luftwaffe, it's such an emotional thing to see them fly at airshows
