I'm surprised actually at how bad this performance is. There are a lot of shaky intonations and rather immature interpretative areas. Rushing notes, etc.
@jason101other since your are so critical of her performance why dont you show ur absolute 'brilliant' violin skills??? she did not win the competition for nothing!!!
@chinaispro Just because a person doesn't not play the violin, does not mean they do not have ears to hear and to be able to compare different player's playing. She is actually remarkably average in this, and like I said, I'm surprised she won. She is not very polished, and her style is somewhat immature. Get over it. BTW: Don't you ever critique any artist, musicians, politicians, etc until you've been one either, okay? Cause that is the same retarded logic you are using.
Actually, unless Jason has actually published musical critiques or judged the Tchaikovsky competition before, I don't think he should say much about the judges' decision here.
He is entitled to his opinion (my teacher's teacher said Itzhak Perlman was "out of tune" back in the day, after all), but IMO no more than that.
I agree with hirotakapuppu that her style can be softened a bit (which would help with intonation as well), but overall a fine performance.
@melchior00625 As usual, Youtube hero-worshipping bullshit. You are no better than the multitude of Justin Bieber's fans who will forget him in 10 years. If you violently disagree with a negative comment, you should ask him to justify their reasoning. Saying that just because someone is not a professional critic or worse, because someone is not a better musician, one shouldn't post anything negative about a musician, is encouraging an idiotic and uncritical mindset which knows nothing of truly
@melchior00625 appreciating a composer and his music. We have no obligation to worship those who can play better than us - because if someone wants to be a performer and attract attention, that attention must be repaid with the highest standards of music making. Thus we have a right to criticize, as long as our criticism is thoughtful and well-supported.
I read where someone suggested that "she is a foreigner". What absurdity to consider that her latitude on the planet has anything to do with her "feel" for the music at all. That's like saying America has no classical music composers. Oh wait. Dvorak! Sorry, I was wrong. I almost forgot he was adopted. He grew up in Brooklyn, no wonder his music sounds like there, though it was written here! Thank goodness I've been to Italy or I would have gotten my facts all wrong.
@bruno5001000 I believe you're asking for the name of the orchestra? It's the Moscow Philarmonic Orchestra, under conductor Pavel Kogan, at least acording to the Japanese subtites on the first video of the series. The theatre is the Moscow Conservatory Hall.
I think she played very well, but like almost anyone who plays this 3rd movement there were some rythmic problems. Blame it on this stunningly demanding piece of music... Menuhin's 3rd movement sounds perfect.
The best interpretation of this concert is Accardo's.
She has no technical problems, nor bowing problems, nor tonal problems......she just lacks a feel for the piece, to capture its Italian feel, but she's a foreigner and a youngster so one can't really fault her. If she can only play with more emotion, imagination, and style. She just needs to immerse herself in Italy and absorb that culture, then her Paganini would be authentic, because she already has which others don't-----how to play the violin. Her problem is in interpretation.
This girl is wonderful: the closest I've heard to the Ashkenasi version on Deutsche Gramophonen - which is the best interpretation ever - and is still thebest, in my opinion. But she is incredible and far better than the older versions like Francescatti. The thing is that Francescatti may have been good "then" but actually did not manage the double-stopping.
Is the third movement harder than the first movement?
I know the third movement has, for example the ridiculous 8va triplets and the artificial harmonics passages, but the thirds of the first look really hard too + the cadenza.
Ridiculous in a good way. There are probably only a handful of people who can play any of the Paganini violin concertos, and definitely most not as well as Suwanai.

Yeah, this one burned out. She only practised hard before this competition, whehn she won, she didn't want to practise hard anymore and that's why we don't hear anything of her right now anymore. Waste of talent, a shame really she could have been a star or really successful

Great campanella, i am sure by now she is one of the greatest. what is amazing is no body coffin, no erupts, not applauses at every movement end , not people screens. wonderful respect even in a Jung competition.
nope. i did not consider that. im not an expert. it said 5 of 5.. i thought there five movements. i only just know discovered that there were only 3.... im sorry if i offended anybody.. jeez... it was one little brain fart..

Am I the only one who wasn't impressed by this? The tempo is a bit too fast, some notes are sloppy (especially in the beginning) and there's a few passages of harsh sound as well. I guess nerves might have caused it, cuz to me she doesn't really sound like she understands the music - it's as if she's throwing notes around and that's it.
On any given string, hold your (upper) finger a perfect fourth above the note your lower finger is playing, and touch the string, not the fret(less) board and that should give a note two octaves above the note that you would've played normally. Try this with a single string first, a lot! You should get it, and then try moving it around. Then try doing it with two strings. Good Luck!
The rapid fire technique and crystal clear accuracy are absolutely unbelievable. And Suwanai's phrasing is utterly natural.
