  • Obviously she's a Japanese! Way to go Suwanai:)

  • wow

  • some people said stupid thinks about her .. she is amazing player

  • big fail-is she disables or something?

  • tchaikovsky is amaing, but the music was destroyed by akik suwan or whatever the fuck her name is

  • Have pass 20 years since and still the emotions are great DOMO ARIGATO GOZAIMASU.

  • She has such a bright sounding instrument. I love the tone of it.

  • I'm surprised actually at how bad this performance is. There are a lot of shaky intonations and rather immature interpretative areas. Rushing notes, etc.

  • @jason101other Video or GTFO

  • @jason101other since your are so critical of her performance why dont you show ur absolute 'brilliant' violin skills??? she did not win the competition for nothing!!!

  • @chinaispro Just because a person doesn't not play the violin, does not mean they do not have ears to hear and to be able to compare different player's playing. She is actually remarkably average in this, and like I said, I'm surprised she won. She is not very polished, and her style is somewhat immature. Get over it. BTW: Don't you ever critique any artist, musicians, politicians, etc until you've been one either, okay? Cause that is the same retarded logic you are using.

  • @jason101other Well, Mr Hypocrite don't you criticize any artist, musicians, politicians, etc until you are you of higher standard

  • @chinaispro

Actually, unless Jason has actually published musical critiques or judged the Tchaikovsky competition before, I don't think he should say much about the judges' decision here.

He is entitled to his opinion (my teacher's teacher said Itzhak Perlman was "out of tune" back in the day, after all), but IMO no more than that.

I agree with hirotakapuppu that her style can be softened a bit (which would help with intonation as well), but overall a fine performance.

  • @melchior00625 I should also mention that this recording is ~21 years old, so no doubt she's improved her chops and style in the meantime.

  • @melchior00625 As usual, Youtube hero-worshipping bullshit. You are no better than the multitude of Justin Bieber's fans who will forget him in 10 years. If you violently disagree with a negative comment, you should ask him to justify their reasoning. Saying that just because someone is not a professional critic or worse, because someone is not a better musician, one shouldn't post anything negative about a musician, is encouraging an idiotic and uncritical mindset which knows nothing of truly

  • @melchior00625 appreciating a composer and his music. We have no obligation to worship those who can play better than us - because if someone wants to be a performer and attract attention, that attention must be repaid with the highest standards of music making. Thus we have a right to criticize, as long as our criticism is thoughtful and well-supported.

  • Simply divine

  • It is difficult at times to restrain my eyes from getting moist from the beauty of her play...

  • clap clap clap clap clap clap clap clap clap!!! :'D it was beautifull!!!

  • Absolutely Fantastic !

  • I'm totally in love

  • AWESOME!!!!!!

  • I read where someone suggested that "she is a foreigner". What absurdity to consider that her latitude on the planet has anything to do with her "feel" for the music at all. That's like saying America has no classical music composers. Oh wait. Dvorak! Sorry, I was wrong. I almost forgot he was adopted. He grew up in Brooklyn, no wonder his music sounds like there, though it was written here! Thank goodness I've been to Italy or I would have gotten my facts all wrong.

  • This is beautiful <3

  • what's the name of this simphony ???? can anyone tell me so ?

  • @bruno5001000 I believe you're asking for the name of the orchestra? It's the Moscow Philarmonic Orchestra, under conductor Pavel Kogan, at least acording to the Japanese subtites on the first video of the series. The theatre is the Moscow Conservatory Hall.

  • Flawless!!!!

  • perfection wish i could play like that!!!

  • I think she played very well, but like almost anyone who plays this 3rd movement there were some rythmic problems. Blame it on this stunningly demanding piece of music... Menuhin's 3rd movement sounds perfect.

The best interpretation of this concert is Accardo's.

  • She did not play the piece SUPERB, yet she managed to play it in a beautiful way. And she's SO young! :)

  • She has no technical problems, nor bowing problems, nor tonal problems......she just lacks a feel for the piece, to capture its Italian feel, but she's a foreigner and a youngster so one can't really fault her. If she can only play with more emotion, imagination, and style. She just needs to immerse herself in Italy and absorb that culture, then her Paganini would be authentic, because she already has which others don't-----how to play the violin. Her problem is in interpretation.

  • Is this concert availible on CD/DVD?

  • Awesome but i still think no1 will be able to beat Leonid Kogan at paganini stuff lol

  • Argh!!! When can I play like her??

  • @waikikit2

    what for a question ... neverr !!

    ;

  • amazing...this is very very difficult

  • her performance is perfect!

has indicating the errors listened to an original tune?

  • This girl is wonderful: the closest I've heard to the Ashkenasi version on Deutsche Gramophonen - which is the best interpretation ever - and is still thebest, in my opinion. But she is incredible and far better than the older versions like Francescatti. The thing is that Francescatti may have been good "then" but actually did not manage the double-stopping.

  • ¡Genial! Buena ejecución

  • awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • AmaZING!!!

  • Is the third movement harder than the first movement?

I know the third movement has, for example the ridiculous 8va triplets and the artificial harmonics passages, but the thirds of the first look really hard too + the cadenza.

  • Ridiculous? Paganini ridiculous?

Maybe you are the ridiculous... talking like that about Paganini... shame on you... wise guy

  • @Mamboreta10

Ridiculous in a good way. There are probably only a handful of people who can play any of the Paganini violin concertos, and definitely most not as well as Suwanai.

  • Splendid.Perfect.

  • Ive heard of her after too. I think she is as bright as a star could be. Even now, a few years later....

  • (Adressed to Shapkin1502)

After this competition, she went to college just like most talented musicians do. She got a masters degree, became a soloist, made recordings. Maybe you don't hear of her, because you've been looking in the wrong new sources or live in the wrong part of the world.

  • lol After the finale ended, there was an immediate 'BRAVO!' She deserved it, and the audience must have waited so long to be able to finally burst out at the end!

  • awesome! Perfect!

  • @alexanfaria Agreed, but also watch for Kogan! This is more than perfect, he is the devil himself.

  • MOSKVA!

  • this performance is indeed great!

  • Certified Intergalactic!

  • Great orchestra also

  • omg 1:44... accuracy....

  • Great campanella, i am sure by now she is one of the greatest. what is amazing is no body coffin, no erupts, not applauses at every movement end , not people screens. wonderful respect even in a Jung competition.

  • My favorite movement of this concerto, and she is amazing while playing it.

  • Did you ever realize or consider that maybe the 5 refers to the part not the movement? :|

  • nope. i did not consider that. im not an expert. it said 5 of 5.. i thought there five movements. i only just know discovered that there were only 3.... im sorry if i offended anybody.. jeez... it was one little brain fart..

  • Incredible how something like so complex even seems simple!

  • Nu, gde oni? I kogda'oto konzert? Spasibo.

Where are them? And when was played this concert?

Ma dove sono? E a quando risale questo concerto?

    Tutti bravissimi, comunque. Compliments!

  • This concert is a final session of the 9th International Tchaikovsky Competition 1990 played by a Japanese 18 years old violinist Akiko Suwanai with Moscow Philharmic Orchestra. The concert was held in July 1990 at Grand Hall of the Moscow Concertvatoire.

Akiko Suwanai won the first prize of the competition by performances of this Paganini and Tchaikovsky concerto.

I do not know as it to translate... The first concert it is impossible to play, he can be LIVED only... With all pain and suffering with Paganini all loneliness

  • I agreed

  • sad how your criticizing an 18-year old at the time

  • Magdi Said : Magnificent and glossy ,i mean Akiko Suwanai !!!

  • I agreed

  • i need a bucket of ice to dunk my head in now

  • For 18 years-has played very well...

    Doumo arigatou Akiko Suwanai !!!

  • `im agree with CKOPOXBAT XD!!

  • bravo!

  • With artificial double stop harmonics, how do you begin to know how where to put your fingers?????

  • On any given string, hold your (upper) finger a perfect fourth above the note your lower finger is playing, and touch the string, not the fret(less) board and that should give a note two octaves above the note that you would've played normally. Try this with a single string first, a lot! You should get it, and then try moving it around. Then try doing it with two strings. Good Luck!

  • Ok I just finished parts 1-5

FREAKING AMAZING at age of 18

I wonder who she studied from?

  • Dorothy Delay...

  • Has she studied under Dorothy Delay when the competition took place?

  • The rapid fire technique and crystal clear accuracy are absolutely unbelievable. And Suwanai's phrasing is utterly natural.

I personally would have liked a slower tempo with a more bouncy "Italian" feel, but that's just meaningless griping from a guy who can't play this work as cleanly!

  • There's a technique called rapid fire???

  • bravo

  • Oh yea? Well I'm viewer #20,027 who will be #20,028... No one gives a damn. Please post a comment that's relevant to her magnificence and perfection which is out of this world.

We Love You Akiko Suwanai!!! Thanks for your inspiration

  • no i meant if this was the final round of the competition, but i think i found it out, it was the final round.

  • bravo

  • really great!!

does anyone know if this was the final or what else?

  • My fingers would of split!

  • HOLY FREAKING CRAP.

2:38...her fingers are like on FIRE and the notes are INCREDIBLY in tune.

and her DOUBLE HARMONICS were pretty much jaw-dropping.

  • I guess every string player know how difficult it is the harmonics somemore it is DOUBLE STOPS... MY GOD.. I LOVE YOU SUNAWAI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • simply incredible double harmonics

  • thats what i was thinking..

is the a recording of heifetz playing this? i would like to compare sounds.

  • And I find single harmonics hard enough!!!!!! AAAHHH!!!!

  • Did anybody else notice that she didn't even play have the notes in the opening scales?

  • simplemente !!!MAGNIFICO!!

    superrr ,,.,.me encanta.,.,.

    ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡arigato!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I've never seen, or heard any violinist play like that. If I were Paganini, I would not have this violinist as my opening act.

  • LOL! "IF" you were Paganini. Lucky for the world you are NOT. Else we won't get to enjoy such a wonderful performance.

  • I think you missed the point. A second-rate performance opens. It was a complement.

  • The whole world loves Akiko Suwanai. Can we have more video of her. I can't get enough of her.

  • such excitment! fantastic

  • bravoooo, bien hecho... good work!

  • i love you suwanai!!!1

  • I love her too !

  • Me too

  • i like the sound at 7:51,it sounded creepy

  • Simply brilliant!

    Complete mastery.

    Phenomenal.

  • woah..o.o

  • Comparing any violin player to Paganini would be like comparing a F1 car to a shopping trolly!

  • LOL

  • so fast...

    amazing

  • PAGANINI SHOULD BE HAPPY

  • Paganini was much, much better. He could be happy only because of that he is still unbeatable.

  • lol.. agreed

  • bravo!

  • BOOO! jk!

    ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!

  • Amazing double harmonics!

  • absoluyely astonishing!

  • very good!!

  • Talented A.Suwanai. Two thumb up.
