i really want to learn to play this song on guitar, but havent really managed to.

  • hi

how much does your mandolin costs?

  • Most excellent! Thank you for posting the results of your hard work and practice.

  • My mando is a 2006 Fender i just won off of ebay for 115.00 and it's KILLER!!!!!!!!! Don't settle for a crap mando, but you don't have to give a kidney for one, either. and I'm a "CHICK"! (my handle was my favorite uncles nick name for me!)

  • It makes you feel at one with the life of the mariner, the sound of the mando is perfect for this for some reason, but I know it gives everyone the same feeling somehow. kind of sad,far away like something dear lost. like Captain Phil Harris, lost. Like the men lost to the angry bering sea...God rest their souls.I love this tune!

  • What's the name of that instrument

  • @javieralza It's a mandolin

  • @datsyhoehoe thanks man, i love you, JK, are they expensive...

  • sounds good, hey, give a lesson, you got it man.

  • @rogersterling Search for "eddie vedder rise lesson". It's not me but he gives a better lesson than I could put together.

  • love it but, im so high right now i can only pay attention to your silly dog.....hes so silly:)

  • Great, almost flawless, sounds like i am hearing the soundtrack itself.

  • @lalitsrana Wow! Thanks. There are a few parts I couldn't get just right at the time. There is a great instructional video that a guy posted on here and he nails the parts I missed.

  • haha, the dog is just random. it's there though out the whole video. haha. i love that song. it sounds really good.

  • whats up with your dog he seems to be in "tune with the music" or maybe got a flea itch he can't quite reach either way he keeps looking behind anyway good job with the recreation of this song

  • wow your great im trying to learn it to but im struggling right now..

  • @killcharlieagain. glad you liked it. You should search "rise instructional video" There is a guy who has posted a video and goes through step by step. I've been meaning to video the song again much slower, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

  • Wow, the best version I've found! Great job, and thanks!

  • Wow! Just like on the record! BRAVO!

  • Did you teach yourself to play this, or did you find tabs? I really want to learn to play this song, but i can't find any tabs...

  • @mattomizer. I've never seen tabs, but there is a recent instructional video on Youtube that is accurate. Try searching for it.

  • nicely done, I enjoyed that. Looks like your dog did as well.

  • Bravo brother, bravo

  • Gonna find my direction magnetically!!!

That's a five star in my book.

  • your dogg hates it lol... but i like it ;)

    thumbs up

  • awesomeee! and your dog is soo cute!!

  • Awsome man. Any chance you could post a tab somewhere? Or some hints for the chords you use? I've been trying to find a tab for a while.

  • Thanks! Another player posted an instruction video that told step by step. You could probably search for "Rise Eddie Vedder tutorial" or something similar. If you don't like his version, let me know and I'll try to put something together.

  • I found the other video. Thanks again!

  • seriously...well done man! Beautiful.

  • I saw a hundred videos, you are the only one who got it right, congats man!!

  • Eddie? Is that you? :P

Amazing job man, i couldnt tell it wasnt the original.

  • Man this mando sounds much better than that other piece of junk you are playing in the newer videos.

  • It's not the mando, it's the super PT shirt.

  • great cover!

  • Very very good!

  • Thanks. I appreciate it.

  • sounds like the original dude very good!

    I love it

  • hey mandokiddo type in this: eddie vedder rise mandolin lesson... this guy helped me learn this song on my mandi in about 2 hours. and he plays it just like this dude-perfect. especially picking in the beginning and not strumming.. o yeah awesome video guy. what a song eddie!

  • amazing! I think I love you!

    :P

  • beautiful playing btw...amazing..

  • thank you for that. you play it so well.

  • Nice job! You have a good right hand.

Really pretty song I'll have to find out what movie is was in an watch it and the song is now on my must learn list.

And that Gibson sounds really good too. Nice, full, woody bass and bell-like trebles. Great balance on it. Of course the player is responsible for a lot of that good sound too! (smile)

Did you order it with a wider fretboard? Or is an F-5G custom?

If I ever meet Boss I'll buy him a bisket!

  • Thanks for the kind words. The mandolin is an '04 F5g deluxe. I guess they had some extra Sam Bush necks lying around. I've actually got it listed on mandolincafe cause I bought a Weber Fern about a month ago. I never planned on getting rid of it till I play this 'un.

Boss said to tell you he'll hold you to it.

  • The movie is "Into The Wild" and its really really good!

  • nice... boss is incredibly sweet

  • great job man, you played that song really well

I made a tribute to Chris McCandless on my youtube.

    great job

  • Pleaaaase help mee!! lol ive seen a lot of those cover videos. and yours is the best. i've been looking for tabs for this. but i can't find anything. can you tell me where exactly you found the tabs to figure that song out?

  • Sorry Andrew, I've never seen any tab to this song. I learned it from listening to the song over and over. I responded to an earlier post that I can rerecord the song with a close view and much slower speed, if that would help you. I don't have the software to tab the song out. Thanks for the kind words.

  • That would be really cool cause I'm a mandolin player and I'm absolutely in love with Eddie Vedder but I've been having trouble getting this song down.

  • I like to use tabledit to view tab, but it's not free if you want to create tab longer than one page. I've never tried to create anything with it.

  • nice dude. tutorial video!

  • can you break that down please......in chords..just learning how to play mandolin..and really want to learn this song, it's so inspiring.

  • Yeah, I apologize for the poor quality. My camera is a cheapo. I'll try to zoom in and play it a little slower. The song is played in lots of open and "half" chords. I'd love to show you.

  • Poochie loves it!!

  • Great version of the song. Lovely sounding Gibson you have there.

  • Well thank you.
