Any of you heard of the in-fisherman magazine, ive got some of there tapes about muskie fishin and goes in depth on the figure 8 technique and other skills u could use
i'm glad that fish swam off okay. i've heard a lot stories where muskellunge put up such a fight that they fight to their own deaths. these guys fascinate me so much. thanks for posting!
@pivotnoob236 I go to school In East St. Paul. I can't wait to hit the Mississippi this summer. Do you have any advice you could offer as I'm from out of state, and am not familiar with fishing here?
It is not a question of "good eatin", that would be like having a bar-b-que with a $25,000 thoroughbred race horse, just plain ignorant really.
If you want fish to eat then go crappy fishing. Muskies are not like bass that you can catch and keep stringers of and there are always more bass.
Muskellunge are a rare fish -even where they are stocked- and there are never very many of them in any given body of water. They don't spawn until they are 5 years old. Release them.
They spawn well before they're 5 yrs old. I live close to Cave Run Lake and 90% of the fish that are in the lake are hatchery raised. They actually go through the spawning rituals but don't actually reproduce. Average life expectancy for Muskie here at the Cave is 11-13 yrs.
Great video. I just started muskie fishing in Kentucky eight months ago and have caught two muskies so far. The first was 49 inches and the second was 32 inches.
Here in Kentucky that's a good size Musky. We don't really fish Musky or Pike here, mainly just Largemouth and Smallmouth (we have great smallmouth in lake cumberland and dale hollow), and good cats, mostly channel cats. I haven't ever even caught a musky, so this is a bit of a shock.
@MMASubmissionFighter I've heard stories of people fishing for Crappie and Smallies/Bucketmouths and snagging one of these guys. That is at Green River Lake, though. I think they actually hooked into one when they went Crappie fishing one episode a long time ago.
@MMASubmissionFighter Up here in eastern KY in our rivers and of course cave run lake, musky fishing is really popular. There is so many good musky waters out here.
well up to me in wisconsin i have had fish in 50 inch range and when they hit they hit HARD and i find that u get a better bait presitation and they dont care if the pole is in the water
@elite5dylan A figure 8 gives the fish more opportunity to take the lure. I have seen a figure 8 done for 3 or for minutes straight before the musky finally took it. A lot of fish are boated on a figure 8. I do one at the end of every single cast.
i dont even fish for muskie i use spinnerbaits and a bass reel and rod and i still manage to catch them although they arnt hooked very well due to the single hook
