That is indeed superb singing the Eb is unbelievable.
But the conducting is atrocious. Especially the introduction, what did her husband think, that this is nice happy music performed in the park on Sunday afternoon? Did he really lack what it takes to grasp the tragic depth of this music? I know the score is not easy to conduct, because it does appear "light", but it's the conductor's business to underscore the drama, not take it away.
Even though this Eb doesn't sound as perfectly stable as in her studio or other live recordings, I think acting wise, it's the best one. The way she pushes out the note, and the crazy (good crazy) vibrato attached to it makes it sound like Lucia's truly lost it forever.
There are I believe three recordings from the 1960s. The one from her debut in 1961 is spine tingling and you just have to wonder what the people in the audience must have been thinking.
The most beautiful. thrilling sound ever recorded. She's a phenomenon the world will probably never see or hear the likes of again. Thank you to whomever is posting these incredible clips.
E flat? Sounds like an E natural to me, unless you're using some kind of different notation..
