Does anyone even read the Christian Science Monitor ? I never even hear it quoted from media that tends to quote from papers. I think you guys are going out of business due to lack of interest and are blaming it on the transition to online media. You did not transition ... you got left behind.
“Christian Science denies prayer: ‘The mere habit of pleading with the divine Mind, as one pleads with a human being, perpetuates the belief in God as humanly circumscribed - an error which impedes spiritual growth.’ Compare 1 Chron 16:11; Matt 7:7, 26:41; Luke 18:1; John 16:24; Phil 4:6; 1 Thess 5:17, all of which tell us to pray always about everything. God wants us to communicate with Him.”
Excuse me but what has any religion got to do with science, reality, logic or reason?
Hopefully inside the next say 200 years, A L L religions will be consigned to the FICTION / MYTHOLOGY section of the library. No intelligent person believes in angels, miracles or an eternal afterlife with an imaginary magic-boss in the sky.
@goldstead Well lets see, you have social science's, science of biology, science of chemistry, science astronomy etc etc. (physical sciences) so why not a Science of God i.e Christian Science ?
Science: "branch of knowledge or study dealing with a body of facts or truths systematically arranged and showing the operation of general laws"
There are laws of God (ignored by most men/women) that when applied properly yield results that supersede physical laws.
True, print media has move to a newlevel to online reading -- even my daily paper readership is down by the thousands! People are not subscribing to the daily papers anymore - the exception is the sunday paper, where they can see what sales are coming up - it really is web first today --
Religion is a metaphor that helps people live good lives. It cannot be used as excuses for conflicts, tools for politics, or explanations to the creation of the universe
true religion is what everything is. knowing that god exists effect everything therefor so does religion. If you were so ignorant you would know why everything happens.
Yep the Monitor is high-class journalism. It strives to be ethical and balanced. It's a much smaller newspaper than it used to be, but in quality and impartiality I still rate it along with the Financial Times and the BBC World Service. A 24-hour website and a weekly print edition - with the best of the web - is definitely the way to go. But will the weekly print edition be available globally? And how similar will that be to the existing weekly international edition? Anyone know?
Oh THANK YOU!!!!! I've been waiting for some superior human to let me in on the "SECRET". So glad your superior views are helping the rest of us out. Now you can tell us all what to think and feel!
Honestly, i have a pretty hard time taking religious cues or advice from someone with the prestigious screenname "boldertits." Good luck in your own search ;)
The Monitor is leading the way to the future. Print is no longer the main source of news and will never be again. Other major print news sources are closely watching the Montior's venture into the world of online news, knowing that they will one day be following suit and shutting down daily print newspaper publication. It's a great idea for the Monitor to switch from publishing a daily to a weekly print newspaper. Good idea for a whole lot of reasons, including the trees.
If you're worried about Christian Science being "scientific" read some philosophers of science like Thomas Kuhn or Paul Feyerabend and you'll find you'll be far less sure about what you think you know
@Atheistjeremy "Christian Science teaches that the "allness" of God denies the reality of sin, sickness, death, and the material world. Accounts of healing through prayer are common within the church and adherents traditionally refuse medical treatment. "
@ZoneTelevision That has to be the dumbest comment I've read in a long time. If your statement is true, stop driving your car or going to the doctor. Get off your computer.
@Atheistjeremy Dumbest you say ? I'm sure you'll find something else to find fault with .. you're batting 1000 so far. Incidentally .. if the physical "sciences" are so wonderful why do 47,000 - 200,000 die from preventable deaths in American Hospitals every year (According the the AMA and other institutional studies)...
@Atheistjeremy The so called "science" you rely on hasn't solved our moral problems which in turn hasn't solved our nations debt problems and the all the pestilence you see in the world increasing exponentially Why? because God has been literally removed from the equation. To people like you God is of little use ..was to the Romans too and Babylonians too and the Egyptians yet with all their brilliant technological wonders they couldn't save themselves from their moral filth ..
@Atheistjeremy ...yeah let me ask you a question ...hows all that "science" workin for yah when people still kill, maim, collude, steal, lie, cheat etc.... yah think your "science" is going to save you from any of that ? Here's an (F) for FAILING the intelligence test .. because all this "science" you worship.. computers, cars, and yes doctors (self appointed gods), are returning to dust just like the both of us. No I won't stop driving a car because its a practical use of a limited idea.
Thanks for posting this, the editor and the publisher of the Monitor talking about the shift to a weekend print edition and expanded daily publishing online. The last part is what I'm looking forward to-- Monitor news seven days a week instead of five. I miss having the daily paper in print, but that's because I switched to the treeless online edition years ago. Easier on the environment, more timely delivery, and less expensive!
The Christian Science Monitor Daily LIVES on the Web, just as all print media are flowing away from tree-cutting to cutting-edge presence in a vast array of electronic forms.
The Print version of this paper LIVES with a weekly newsmagazine, as most people surveyed prefer to take time for in-depth news reading during the weekend.
The old ways are not sustainable for any publisher as facts about fuels and the weight of paper make the need for radical change increasingly obvious to everyone.
Failure. Just like a lot of C.S. prayer projects. And still full of excuses, rationalizations, and cover-ups. The C.S. Church as a group-thought-process has failed all across the board because it is based on convoluted thinking & behavior. It was bound to collapse; but die-hard believers will never admit it, they claim that C.S. and MBE are responsible for all the good that is creeping into minds & institutions that were once dark. They can't see that C.S. is more of a hindrance than a help.
you're comments are hateful and ignorant. The Monitor was never set up to be a newspaper based on religion (do your damn homework).
Throughout the years, the paper covered topical issues that had nothing to do with religion. Granted, there was, a consistant column on spirituality. That column did not define the paper any more than "Dear Abby" would designate your city paper as an advice-driven "tabloid". Pull yourself together.

Thank you for you comment it was very informative.
Packed with information and debate.
The name comes from a childhood joke.
I can't expect people to know where the joke comes from.
I have a hard time with taking religious cues or advice from a god that demands murder and rape.
Religion is false can you prove me otherwise?
You could just try to degrade my points by commenting on my name again.
Your from the USA the most scrutanised race on the planet. So why should anyone listen to you?
