@77theferret Thankyou :) It does not look this large through the eyepiece - I zoomed my camera in while pointing it through the eyepiece to make the details stand out like that. I was using the standard 10mm eyepiece.
@george7378 Yes, that's it! I remember that show; it was one of the things that fueled my interest in spaceflight.
On topic, this is great. I haven't yet been able to see Jupiter through my newtonian, because the tripod is missing a leg. I've used a clamp to fix it to the railing on my porch, but the field of vision is plumb awful there (essentially, can only look West, and maybe only 15 degrees up.) The best I've managed so far is resolving Mars into a red disk while it was near Venus.
@IzackN I agree - there are some scenes in that series that just make my hairs stand on end - and coupled with this music, it's powerful. Thanks for the compliment - I caught the transit by chance and filmed it for Youtube, then I found out how to use Registax, so I processed it to make some suprising images!
@IzackN Sorry about your tripod - have you tried propping it on something like a chair or maybe a table? New ones can't be too expensive - you don't need to replace the equatorial mount itself - just the legs and the platform that it screws onto. A new EQ-2 system with tripod and mount is £90, so I expect that just the tripod will be a lot cheaper.
anybody know the music?

@sweetpandaonion It is the superb Michael Kamen's "From The Earth To The Moon" (the end credits I think) from the mini-series of the same name
