@kawaiipapillon There are special coring tools you can buy, or you cut off the skin and then cut out the core as a whole with the knife, then slice into rings.
In Chinese after we slice pineapple we dipped them in salt water for a min or so to wash off the slim and it also trick you tounge to make taste it sweeter
pineappe and kiwi are the only fruit that contain "bromelain" a chemical very effective to cure a cold or flu, when you start to feel ill, eat a whole fresh pineapple or eat kiwi fruit for a few dys, bromelain is also available in capsule form in health stores! :-]
@tsss00 as i heard it the core is good as a natural anti inflammatory - sometimes its really tough but mostly I will eat it. I hate seeing so much waste when people serve pineapples like this.
I really love cooking them this way: Take a pineapple, and cut it up as you showed. Mix cinamon, sugar and water in a bowl, until its a good liquid. Put the pineapple in the marinade, and let it stay for a few minutes. Then cook it, in a pan, for a minutes, until it gets hot, and the marinade gets soaked in. You can eat this alone, or with icecream. This is one of the best desserts i know off,
I'm a big fan of your videos. I just stumbled on to them tonight but they're high quality, easy to follow, and you've got a sense of humor. Keep up the awesome work!
I like you style of cutting up the pineapple, however I have one "complaint" to make.....you didn't rinse the pineapple before you plated it :-D
I'm originally from a country where cutting up your own pineapples is a regular thing and you'll know for certain if it wasn't rinsed off after cutting.
Oh wow all this time I thought a pineapple came from a tree! I've been living a lie! I never and I mean never buy pineapples because I don't know how to pick a good one out. Thanks for the tips.
@vorpal22 so far as i know you can still go there and take the" pineapple experience" tour around the plantation. I did about a year or so ago, I'm not sure if they've done anything since.
@vorpal22 This is more of an informational garden. Hawaii really isn't in the export game anymore, as other countries have taken over. But the plantation is still there and very popular!
@ChefTips Cool! Thanks for the info. What were you doing in Oahu, by the way? Vacation?
Ever since I went there on my honeymoon, It's been my goal to move to Hawaii (I was offered a job in Hilo working at one of the observatories up on Mauna Kea)... I'm holding off, though, until I finish school (working on my PhD in comp sci).
I dream of eating fresh pineapple on the beaches of Kona :D. *happy*
@vorpal22 Hi, it was a "working" vacation. My brother lives on the North Shore. We'd love to move there someday as well. If not, a vacation house will do just fine! Good luck on your schooling. Sounds like you won't have any trouble finding a good job! Cheers, Jason
Now I've got a wicked craving for pineapple... I think I'm going to make some homemade Thai red curry paste and stir fry some chicken, pineapple, and lychee in it with a whack of lime leaves and just a bit of coconut cream. YUM!
LOVE the idea of trimming the top to make a nice, tight garnish! I'm definitely going to use that. Thanks, Jason!
@ChefTips Thanks, Jason! I'll work on it today and let you know how it turns out. Thai food is my main passion: I've been studying it for years (LOL I had to start cooking it myself or face insane student loans from spending a fortune at Thai restaurants :D) and eat it for usually about half my meals. I don't think that YouTube allows links in comments, but I'd love to share my own personal recipe for panang curry that I've spent years perfecting and that's got rave reviews from my friends (ctd)
(ctd) and family! Anyways, I posted it on Chowhound. If you go to "tiny dawt cc slash 7oi9k" you'll get there! If that doesn't work, send me a message and I'll send you the link!
@vorpal22 I apologize on being forward, but I love Thai cuisine as well. So I am also interested in the recipe *hint hint* or do a video of you making it...
Thanks for the pineapple tips. But I see there is a pineapple war going on in the comments lol. I love fresh pinapple too but don't have it often due to cost and work involved. But definately will rethink it since it's pinapple season.
I love Pineapple, mix half pineapple juice and half malibu coconut rum and its a deceptively alcoholic drink that is very very very smooth. Its like you're not even drinking alcohol at all, so drink it slow.
As some posters have noted earlier: don't eat them raw like that! Your tongue will ache severely. Either soak them in slightly salted water for a while or grill them (and let it cool back down).
@soneet stfu u idiot. ive never heard so much bull shit in all my life. i eat loads of pineapple all d time and my tounge is just fine tyvm. what a stupid comment.
@boppzz Pineapples contain a proteolytic enzyme called bromelain, which helps break down foods and is even used as a meat tenderizer. This sensation -- which some compare to touching a 9-volt battery to your tongue -- is generally due to this enzyme. A quick Google search for "pineapple tongue" shows several pages explaining this symptom. You probably have been eating canned pineapples and not fresh ones. Please refrain from acting rude in the future when ignorant from researched facts.
@soneet Thanks for explaining this. I was just about to when I saw your post. This is why doctors often recommend pineapple as a digestive aid. The bromelain is also great for your joints.
