Someone needs to be upset to instruct another of their error? No, this is obviously not an emotional issue. I just dislike ignorance. The toga is not a "costume".
Yes, the fool is free to be a fool and treat anything they don't care about, understand or respect as a costume. That's the fool's right
Thankfully, it's also my right to sigh intolerantly and complain bitterly as I witness everything around me of former significance being dragged down into the foul cesspit of modern culture
Anyone who thinks people care about Greek facts at a toga party should probably get a life. This video was so helpful. At modern day parties people grind and drink. They don't discuss how to make authentic togas. Hahaha get a life.
Thanks for this informative video. I'm a little nervous about the pins, though. I always get poked with those. Wondering if there's an alternative? What did the ancient Romans use? Did they have pins?
Great video. Don't really understand the negative comments. Disturbs me that people are so mean and their comments are so bazaar that they don't make any sense.
@PumaM12LRV Stop trying to be funny becaause your not - your just a sad lonely ''man'' who doesn't have anything better to do in life and go back to kindergarten and learn to spell ''sandwiches''
@PumaM12LRV Oh I'm sorry, I left my sandwich-making post in the late 1950s, along with the rest of female kind in order to pursue an education. If you too had decided to pursue an education instead of a career in intense masturbation and loneliness, perhaps you would be able to spell words like "sandwich".
That's one way to tie a toga, but not the real way. The Ancient Romans didn't have saftey pins, so they had to drape it around themselces and hold it by an arm.
thank you! its hard finding a vid to show both guys and girls togas!! all of my friends are satified!!! My 21st birthday will now rock, thanks to you!!!
that is awsome!!....this is the 4th movie i watched of how to tie a toga!!...the last one is the best of all!!...its nice and comfy....u dont need pins and its covers everything!!....thanx for the help!!....u saved me for tonite's toga party!! :)
Easy tiger...this video isn't meant to be a Greek & Roman Studies project. It's just meant to be a fun way to tie togas for events. We were not necessarily going for any factual or historical accuracy, it's just a bit of fun. Lighten up!
@Catoni52 wearing an accurate roman style toga would be totally impractical for a party. it would be too heavy and you'd only have one free hand. silly.
@lyndabynda Didn't seem to be too heavy for the Romans. Perhaps they used a lighter weight material at times. Or perhaps if the toga illustrated in this video is not a real toga, then it should be called something else... how about "Party Fun Costume".
@lyndabynda Didn't seem to be too heavy for the Romans. Perhaps they used a bit lighter weight material. Since the "toga" illustrated here is not a real toga, perhaps it could use another name. Maybe "Fun Party Costume" would do. Oh yes.... Roman women did not wear the toga, unless they wished to be regarded as "loose" Prostitutes would at times wear the toga. Women wore the Stola over their tunic, often accompanied by a long shawl like garment called a palla.
@Catoni52 clearly you are just commenting here to get a narcissistic kick out of contradicting people- anybody can google the word 'toga' if they want to discover the information you've just told us. by the way, you are actually wrong; both men and women of all walks of life wore the toga in earlier periods. by the imperial period the toga was worn only by high ranking citizens on formal occasions.
party fun costume? then how would you know what the theme of the party was?
@lyndabynda around the beginning of the second century B.C. and after, in the last couple of hundred years of the Roman Republic and into the Principate and Empire periods, women were expected to wear the Stola and they usually also wore the Palla. So during the time of Julius Caesar and, Marc Antony, Marcus Tullius Cicero, and after, a woman wearing the Toga would be strongly suspected of advertising her "profession of pleasure" so to speak.
@Catoni52 why are you so obsessed with the prostitution aspect? i already know about this, and as i've said anybody else who wants to know can google it. the simple facts are that a) women did wear togas (even if those women happened the be prostitutes) and b) people going to a toga party probably don't care.
caesar, marc antony and cicero have nothing to do with what we're talking about either, and you mentioning them doesn't impress me or anyone else i'm sure.
Togas are not tied or pinned. They are draped. Done properly, they stay on. The only women in ancient Rome who wore a toga where women of questionable reputation. The Toga was a man's garment.
@Catoni52 you are talking rubbish re; the stola. go and be anal somewhere that people care about what you're saying. most people going to a toga party are concerned about having fun and not historical accuracy. i'd hate to be a guest at the same party as you, what a boring old fart.
@lyndabynda I've been to three toga parties many years ago. The first one, I wore a "toga" similar to what most people wear at those parties. Then I got a copy of Dr. Lillian Wilson's book, The Roman Toga, and made a authentic looking tunic and toga. The next two parties, a few people actually asked me how they could make a realistic tunic and toga as well. The last toga party I went to, a couple others actually wore a real looking toga too.
LIFE SAVER YOU ARE!!! My school has a tradition that the seniors wear togas on the last day of Spirit Week. I was trying to figure out a good way to wrap my toga. I -loved- the last one. It's great. THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS!!!
ahhh this helped a lot! in a few hours it'll be toga day for seniors at my school, I just tried putting mine on and not to sound too narcissistic but I look great! XD I'm so excited!
i really like the last one...in my school, when you are a senior, it is tradition to wear a toga (most of the girls at my school wear them as short as mini skirts)and run around the school with whistles and morracas on the first day of school to scare the freshman...i think im gonna try doing that last one for next year
