Why do the 'tenor' drummers of a Scots pipe band also have the same flow? except they call it 'flourishing' and not 'poi'?? if you find that an interesting question...you may find that the general idea of ' 'poi & the flow arts originated only in Aotearoa(NZ) '' may be based on an invalid deduction ~~~ please also look at the answers from India that 'JoriAcharyas' channel is trying to explore, ~ Shanti

I just arrived in New Zealand and I was amazed at how light their poi are. At first I thought this was just crazy but now that I've seen it in action I'm astonished at how beautiful it is.
Question: Did you ever use any of these traditional styles in your contemporary routines? If so how?
kia ora, awesome teacher, I learnt that single poi when I was 10 and I know how hard it is to learn and to teach the double poi. Really good for anyone wanting to learn the basics of traditional Maori Poi. Interesting to hear about all the other styles of contemporary poi picked up in the world, does that derive from maori poi?.
My friend ( who got me into poi dancing in the first place) taught me to practice the flicking on the wrist thing... I didn't think how to use it, but your videos make me think how rigid my dancing was. It's great seeing traditional style!
Haha boarding school memories flash bak az i remembr the hours on end we practisd thru the nyt bt using sockz or bread bags so we wouldnt pakaru the pois for comp. Neat clip!
any ways i met him at my 1st fire event (fire drums) in santa cruz about a year and a half ago and saw him again this year at Burning man, He has an amazing and unique style it has been a pleasure every time i have spun with him
Migoto you rock! I am Maori living in Oz so attempting to pick up poi on my own and live the culture, hence the name. The beat patterns make heaps of sense to me. I learn by listening to the sound patterns the poi make along with the visual.
hello, I would so much like to learn maori poi-dance, especially that short poi. I'm looking for a good book or a dvd for ages, but couldn't find anything. Can anybody help me pleeeeease? Maybe there is someone out there who would teach me via webcam? best regards from germany, schnickine
this was great...Im learning the poi again after losing touch for 20 years...and its not like riding a bike..LOL..Im like pathetic...practise makes perfect!!!
hello...its usually made out of plastic (bit of plastic shopping bag) wrapped around cushion stuffing...the string is a basic four plait which is tied around the stuffing...hehe...everyone makes their own

sephiroth87932 2 years ago
Oh really and I who thought they were just doing it systematically wrong all the time
I love it when internet people don't understand that I'm just joking
andersv20 2 years ago
well the comments can't really show much emotion so you can't really tell who's joking and who's not
