  • somtehing that always strikes me about the guys in Go West was (and yea I know this is a video and they are "acting" maybe??) they seemed to be having a ball making these videos and singing their songs. If you are in a band and love your music and enjoy presenting it then man you have got it all !!!

  • @uneedtherapy42 Totally right! That's the best kind of music, the kind that's played by musicians who truly love music and enjoy playing it!

  • Peter Cox was amazing xx

  • i remember this song from the 80,s when i was 13 and it was a great song, saw them at sheffield in dec 2011 and they were just as good, top gig loved it

  • 25 years later... still looks and sounds just as good!

  • It doesnt get any better than this, Yeah baby!!

  • Can somebody tell me what version this is tied to? I have "the sequel" version on both 7" and 12" and this version is different.

  • love this song.. so many good memories of this song and growing up in the 80's ... :-)

  • love videos like this when everyone appears to be having fun. What ever happened to that? Now it's ugly expensive cars, wanna-be thugs throwing money around and half naked women.

  • I remember being a young lass watching this video and being SO jealous of the black lady pampering the lead singer. Give me a break though, I was 19! Think of Justin Beiber fans now! Same thing back then kiddies!

  • Great album, great songs top to bottom.

  • peter cox is a hottie......and im going to have him!!!!.......no seriously. lol.

  • Peter Cox is so hot! and this song is absolutely brilliant! xx

  • love it love it love it!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • This song is magnificent. Go West is underrated. Perfect to bump on a friday, gettin ready to go out! All jigged up and fresh! woooo! :)))

  • FYI, Going West means going gay.

    Search: Don't Go West

    (documentary by TheCelticRebel)

  • @celticrebelfan "C'mon, get happyyyyy!"--The Partridge Family.

  • and these guys are from the uk cool as ice at the time

  • one of their best that you never hear these days.

  • What ever happened to the group, they did some great stuff ?

  • @MechelenManiac Still around writing, recording and touring....last UK tour was in December 2011.....and they're still fab!!

  • What a tuuuuuuune havnt heard this in ages !!!Where have all the decent tunnes gone off the RADIO.!!!like this.

  • cool tune

  • You got to Admit The 80's was the best time to be young, and even now the youth of today can be seen enjoying the 80's. Don't look down look up at the greatest decade.

  • @hawks922 I graduated 1987 and remember this song and era all too well. I miss the styles of clothing. It was simple and fun. No cell phones, no internet (at least world wide web), hip hop rap wasn't totally mainstream, cars were simpler and no too computerized as they are now. Unfortunately Ronald Reagan was President then.

  • @rbsvy91368 Same here, Graduated in 1987 (from college). Those were the good times before things went to shit

  • Thank you mum for buying this awesome song on 7" back in the 80's.

With classics like this, do we really need todays so called *music*??

  • I had a crush on both members of Go West! They were and are the best!

  • @francesca66ify I think they still do some concerts more like one of those concerts with cover groups singing.

Yesterday I missed out on seeing Pat Benatar in concert which I really wanted to see but couldn't get there.

I do remember the video on the good old MTV back in July/August 1987. I just finished High School then. Boy did the years fly by!

  • I forgot how awesome this dude's voice is!!!!!!!!!!

  • These guys are the best!!! No tricks, just great music and great preformances! love these guys!!

  • great great video

  • The youth of today "don't look down" at there parents anymore when little gems like this is featured on there computer games, No GAGA NO BEIBER AND ANNOYING RINGTONES 80s was best.

  • This is their best song yet it's always the other less melodic one that gets played on all those nostalgia radio stations.

  • These guys rock the savage monkey burn. Hey, is that a fly in my strawberry quick?

  • deffo my fave go west song

  • These guys look like they might be the original band's kids--Wang Chung's kids . . .

  • Is that keyboard player golfer Tom Kite?

  • Go West... was on FIREEEEEEEEEE when they produced call me, dont look down girl, and we close our eyes.....

  • Love this song - what a voice he had and still has!!!

  • Convinced that the name they chose for the band didn't do them any favours

They were very good with excellent bass sounds and rhythm

Should have been more successful Stateside

  • I've only ever heard one of Go West's songs 'Call Me'(that's gonna stay my favourite because I link that to my memories with GTA Vice City) but I like this song and vid, it's cheery.

  • This is class guys nobody has lived until they have heard this tune

  • Great Stuff never gets old at all. :)

  • Always love wearing a vest with my suit sleeves rolled up

  • @blackandwh1teboy And who can blame you?

  • asda play a larger selection of 80's forgotten gems, love this song bought it as a single had call me on the b side ! i know im old was 10 at the time i can be forgiven.

  • I fancied the pants off Peter Cox!

  • Peter john Vettese on keys. This guy is probably, along with Trevor Horn, single handedly responsible for the iconic synth sound of the eighties which people like Nik Kershaw emulated. Interestingly, these two guys have their musical origins in Prog Rock. If the kids knew that at the time they'd be like: "Eeeeeewwhhh, hippies" :-D

  • I bet those who complained about 80s music being too synthesizer driven would gladly take it over the mess that's out there now.

  • @SIGMAMAN69 Compared to AutoTune, synthesizer are practically acoustic... :-) (I don't mind synthesizers at all, as long as they don't "pretend" to be what they aren't. I have a similar feeling about soy products that "pretend" to be turkeys or chicken nuggets, or strips of bacon.)

  • @shmuli9 LOL! I know what you mean!

  • @SIGMAMAN69 better believe that my good friend!!

  • @SIGMAMAN69 yes i was one of those now i sit and listen to this stuff everyday and realise with hindsight how good it really was!

  • Comment removed

  • i loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove the 80s !!!!!!!

seriously i am so thankful everyday that i could live at least a couple of years in that amazing amazing decade, i remember from the mid80s onwards , all the light bright and shiny pop melodies of the day that were pretty much a reflections of the times / zeitgeist and all of that.. it was pretty much paradise

  • Please, people, hear "King of wishful thinking"...a masterpiece of pop music, IMHO...

  • how sweet the memories the laughter the music the hair and neon the carefree eighties.........so fun i wanna open a club that takes it back there to the eighties a time warp of fun and music.and happy flourescence....sigh i wanna go to a go west concert now .....at least ill know all the words

  • I,myself dnt like club music ,It is so fucking horrible ,but this which is not really club music ,even though U can dance 2 it is so gr8 n wht makes it so gr8 is tht U have musicians who actually play music ,not some DJ who remixes, samplesnloops a songs n presto 1 2 3 ,he or she claims 2 have made a song n then have some singer sing 2 it ,tht,s just total bullshit 2 me!!!!!

  • summary of the first 20 seconds:

    ooh hoooh ooheyo!

    eeyop!

oh yeah wot 'n yeah oh, err..

  • INXS INXS INXS INXS

  • Go West was one of the bands that flared VERY brightly at the beginning.

It may be 25 years old and my ^$^$ cassette player may be in need of replacement, but I STILL have the cassette of *Go West*.

*We Close Our Eyes*, *Call Me*, and *Don't Look Down* were near perfect examples of the power and enthusiasm of '80s pop music. And, really, they still are.

  • great 80's synth pop.

  • i didn't know they sung thissong. This is the jam!

  • If only I could sing like this dude.

  • The 80s are the new sixties or so i've heard and i was lucky enough to be a teenager in the mid eighties when body warmers and skate boards were cool.and listening to this groovy track at breakfast on the radio when it broke the charts.god i want a time machine.

  • Luv Luv Luv this song prob my fave one ever. Why don't they make music like this anymore with people who can actually sing love this man's voice it's fab x Time for a come back GO WEST x x

  • @Lynsey328 They've been back for about 10 years! They released an album in 2008 called 'futurenow' and this year (their 25th Anniversary) are in the process of releasing a 3 EP album called 3D - the first EP was released in April......They're also touring a lot in the UK this year and doing summer 80s festivals as well....busy boys this year indeed!

  • @grubsmum... I didn't know that. I'ma hafta look that up! I miss these guys.

  • my favourite go west track

  • to bartendertodd theres many a great old song my kids are constantly amazed when i sing there new releases which are covers of songs from my era any way enjoy all music never close youre mind and ears to anything its all good emotions,.,.

  • Peter Cox and Richard Drummie have both got gorgeous bodies which they show off to good effect in this video in their white vests. Fantastic song! love it I still have the album, one of the best pop groups ever!

  • ther shit hot live

  • Just come back from Rhodes and they were playing this at the poolside!! I had totally forgotten how good Go West were, Cant get this song out of my head now!! Arrrrr memories

  • WOOOOOOH!!! YEAH TO THE 80'S!!!

"Try to hide your fear I'm fallin.....keep your eyes on me I'm callin"!

ONE FABULOUS BAND, REMEMBER THEM VERY WELL!!

  • sound of like an Americanized version of Wham

  • Hit #39 in the US (Billboard). How'd it do in the UK? God bless!

  • @DaveWollenberg Hi Dave, it reached number 13 back in December 1985 here in the UK chart! :-)

  • for matthew, tim, jasen, jez xx

  • this is good it sounds like we close our eyes!

  • Go West ....One of the Greatest Unappreciated bands ever. Saw em live in the U.K.early 80's. Super.

  • I added this one to my playlist because its so eighties, the whole atmosphere.....MORE `80`s fantastic ´80´s music on my channel!!!!

  • This band is entirely way too underrated. Pick up Crashes and Bangs. It's mostly remixes of their stuff up to about 1985. This song is on there but it's remixed.

  • wow they're having so much fun, I wanna be in the 80s so bad!!!! love love love!

  • the sequel hit #39 in Billboard. Go West's 1st top 40 in the US.

  • I've heard this song a thousand times in my teens and I still sing it in my head.Thank you!!!!!!!!!!:-)))

  • jeremy if you watch you tube this is for you

  • I heard this song playing over the music system in the Safeway grocery store a few months back. I literally thought it was a new dance song. I wrote down the the chorus(don't look down), and youtube'd it, only to discover it's a song twenty five years old! Wow, this song really holds up . I listen to new club music all the time, and I thought this was a new release! I kid you not.

  • This song would kill at a club I bet. I love the chorus, and Go West makes it effortless to keep a song pumpin from start to finish. I miss the days when music and bands wrote with true emotion behind their lyrics. Where are the songs like "Don't Stop Believing" "Broken Wings" " Waiting for a Grl Like You"

  • HI Cheffy84, yes, this song WOULD absolutley fill the dance floor! As a matter of fact I just heard a new dance tune that sounds very similar to this, but was not able to get it's name or group performing.

  • omg i know exactly how you feel. this is one of those songs they play in the grocery story. sick as hell. i believe it sooooo much that these dudes dont get the respect they deserve. smh. i love their music

  • yeah, I agree, amazing song, but they were pretty huge, i think they did alright out of it.

  • @bartendertodd Good testament to good taste

  • @bartendertodd Did you ever notice the Safeway logo is not just an "S." It is the symbol of Piscies when you look closely.

  • @bartendertodd i grew up in 80`s and all of go west music makes you want to dance ,,all the great singer came from the 80`s,,

  • @bartendertodd Takes me back to 1985. Peter Cox has the most underated voice!

  • @bartendertodd Sadly, that's where great songs like these end up....on supermarket instore pa systems.

I can't tell you how many times I've heard,"Something About You" by Level 42 at convenience stores.

  • @Mowac I hear good music all the time in the grocery stores and I get down and boogie in the aisles too. Yes Most of them 1960's through 1980's. No rap is allowed to be played thank goodness. I hate rap/hip hop. Whoever created that and cell phones are a disgrace. I hate cell phone drivers who text and cause accidents.

  • I have that video on my mp3. Love it!. I won't listen to today's garbage. No way. No Stefani Germanotta for me (Lady Gaga). I agree with her politics but her as a person nah! Madonna the same way. I liked Madonna's style back in the 80's but she copied people and acted as though she originated the fashions. NOT!

  • @bartendertodd I remember this song back in August 1987 after I finished school. Music then was much better and MTV was better too. I miss those days. It makes me think of when I went to Hawaii because they played this song alot on the radio when I was there.

  • @bartendertodd well house music did evolve from 80s british pop, so I am not surprised you did think that.

  • for ricky xxx

  • I love this track. Great driving track on way to my ladies place.

  • Thats just loaded CHEESE MAN a somewhat guilty pleasure though.

  • wow this brings back memories, they don't do cheese like this anymore lol

  • They are so good that sometimes I can get past the cheesy sounding synth sounds

  • There's nothing cheesy about the synths, they still use them nowadays you know!

  • Still one of my favoúrite songs! x

  • I agree. I think its now time for a Go West revival. This is actually a really great song

  • Hi James007magic......Go West having been back together touring and recording since 2001. In April 2010, they are embarking on their 25th Anniversary Tour in the UK, whilst Peter Cox is also currently doing lead vocals for Manfred Mann's Earth Band......busy boys indeed!

  • This is my favourite song of theirs!!!

  • Dose video/movies look like that because there film is old?

or because they filmed it that way?

  • Probably neither. It's been recorded from a recording of a recording etc....

I just looked at Youtube Vid that is older than this (Substitute by Clout) that is older than this (1978) yet looks like it was shot yesterday. Probably done from an original tape.

  • Awesome tune, I have a greatest hits cd of theirs and, well, what can I say. It's the greatest. I love "king of Wishful Thinking" too.

  • :) HAPPY TUNE :)

  • THE WINNER IS-GO WEST!!!!!!!!

  • Go West are the best. better than todays so called stuff!!

  • good stuff, reminds me of Steve Winwood.

  • super music.thank you!!!

  • super music. thank you!!!

  • God take me back to 80s, I'd give anything to be there, this GangstaRap and RnB kind of shit makes me wanna hang myself

  • i wouldnt thatcher riots was bad time for some of us

  • Don't let the fuckers get you down.

  • I always thought that GoWest,Living In a Box,Steve Winwood,Prefab Sprout and specially Def Leppard were American but to my great surpise they're British , what happened to Great Britian's great talent ? why do we have to suffer X Factor, Big Brother kind of talentless wanna be promoting crap in the name of search for the talent ? 80s were simply the best, its such a shame i was just a todler when this song came out but listening to it now brings a tear in my eyes

  • If my memory serves me correct....Go West were from Canada....or I like to Can..ad..a.

  • Nope, not Canadian......both from England :-)

  • yeah they were brummies!

  • From London actually!!

  • NOPE

    UK m8

  • The late, great Alan Murphy on lead guitar RIP.

  • @micthetic yes i remember him great Guitar player also played with Level 42 and Kate Bush.

  • peter cox and richard drummie, are so HOT!!! wish i could have married one of them! or both dont think that would have worked out, ahh dreams :) haha, amazing band, love them and the 80's!

  • The 80's seemed so innocent....or was it me that was innocent!!

  • Comment removed

  • fantastic 80's tune, reminds me of school trips and me and my mates trying to snog girls in our class on the back of the coach! 13 year old sex cases!

  • Graham Broad played the drums on this track, and the rest of Go West's debut album.

  • forgot about this band, great to hear them again

  • I wanna know who's drumming here too.

2:18 middle eight is just one of those prime 80's rockin' moments.

You can NOT beat this for adrenaline pumping inspirational music. Nothing is as overblown and hi-nrg! :-) (even if this isn't really hi-nrg)

  • looks like it is Jimmy Copley on drums. Very fast shots of everybody though. His hair is lighter but I think it his him. He is also on Tears For Fears' live video in California

  • great video takes me back to the good old years nice one i love it

  • I saw these guys at the very beginning of their career - still have the poster ( &autographs somewhere!!). One of the best nights of my youth!!

  • got record still in my record player

  • Go West Rocks !!!!

  • hard to believe i've been a fan of theirs 25 years now....they're still on top of their game.

  • i still got "goobye girl" and "eye to eye" in my cd changer...love this stuff

    blue eyed soul!!

  • Gotta love the eighties........

  • LOVE IT!!!!

    Thanks

  • does anybody know who the drummer featured here is? Graham Broad, maybe?

  • Jim Sutherland's MUSIC WALL TO WALL on FM 95

    the best radio program ever!

  • I havent heard this since I was 12 or 13. Unlike the gangsta rap I abandoned this kind of music for, this STILL sounds good to me even though I'm all grown up.

  • Okay, I'll say it - that lead singer is the most beautiful man - I don't care if it is 20 years later. Current husband is sweet, current husband is a darling love, but ooh ooh ooh if this man walked in my door... Where oh where could I have met that guy 20 years ago???

  • That comment made me laugh out loud.

  • Alan Murphy, amazing talent and a huge influence on me as a young guitar player. Fantastic musician and sadly missed, RIP

  • I was crazy about this song in the 80's....Could Richard Drummie be any cuter?!?!?!?!?!?

  • Yes, he could actually....the way he is now at age 50!!!

  • @ 0:20 aawyeehwadnyeahehoe!

never laughed so much on youtube before. I approve Go West.

  • Late guitarist Alan Murphy was a brilliant talent who added something very unique to the band. This song appeared on both their first and second albums; this is the reworked 2nd album version.

  • what a TUUUUUUNEEEE always gets me dancing :)

  • Brilliant!!!

  • Can't beat that mid eighties synth riff

  • Cannot believe Peter Cox is 54 now...

  • He's not...he will be in November though!

  • Age hasn't hurt him at all, in fact I think he's better now! Like a fine wine!

  • good job, Jean-Claude, I almost mistook you for Richard Drummie!

  • Good God I love this song!!!

  • It's actually from their debut album Go West which was released in 1985.

  • 1987

  • Wow I thought it was about 85/86?

  • its from 1985 my earlier post on here was incorrect lol i put 1987 by mistake bah lol classic tune woop woop

  • Peter Cox's voice is in the same league as Daryl Hall's, and when these kids had Alan Murphy in the band - it was an extremely powerful, soulful combination - which contrasted beautifully against the computer backing tracks: sadly, they went a little too computer as time went by ... and the genius of Alan Murphy R.I.P.

    Still, VERY talented guys.

  • i liked their songs, the music was ok i thought in the 80s
