Just been watching these videos...Amazing...True memories...Didnt think you were still alive phil you old git..lol. I was up in the Hebs on the last live firing and im sure we painted one of them White..I was 15 Bty along side Phil a true gent.. Loved menden loved the Regt..
The scary bit was getting the launcher in the back off a Hercules transport plane and 20 of us sitting around it and flying to the top off Scotland. 19 Missile Battery is Sgt. Getty still alive > Ha Ha??
Since I left a long time ago I have only met 4 lads I was with.
I used to drive those around the german coutryside from 87 to 89. I was in 8 regt RCT. We had links with 50 Miserable RA. May have done excercises with them. Did pay a great deal of attention most of the time!! ;o)
Cool video. I was FA Artillery Surveyor with 1st/32nd FA(Lance Missile) HHB stationed in Hanau,Germany 85-87. Never got to see one on these fired. Thanks for posting.
I´m an old soldier from 6th Bttry (Guard & Escort) Missille Artillery Batt. 150 in Wesel! Maybe you remeber? 50th Missile and our bunch had a close relationship. You invited me and a few lads in 1991 for a hardrockchaingunstyledmissilefiringevent to Benbecula!
Aaaahhh.... Never will forget Creagorry and the missile away party!
Great that my videos have a lot of interest and stirred up a lot of good memories, I really miss my days in Germany, 15 years in total and I have a lot of excellent memories. I only ever got to you guys in Wesel the once and we were on a charity cycle marathon from Hebs to Menden, we were looked after very well although beer and cycling do not mix.
@philhurst I was stationed within your unit with the 15th. I provided interior security at The site with the 69th USAFAD '83-'85. I did several TDY missions with the SAS and the Blackwatch. Are you familiar with them? I have a lot of questions. My memory has been tampered with. Do you remember Operation Lionheart, aka Reforger? I have a lot of remorse about some of my actions. Your response may be helpful. Do you remember what town the site was located?
@mikepauletti Sorry, didn't realise you were American till I read through the comment's. Do you remember a Major Meyer? He would have been around about your time, he gave me the helmet he wore in Vietnam. I've still got it to this day, might have to return it to him someday.
Hey how were the Brits ta work with, we had the Germans over near Koblenz at our Lance hardsite. half the time could'nt even tell what they were trying ta say, lucky our Sgt. Jones spoke it well. Loved the Fraus, friends and beer! Oh and the Autobahn! 1/7th FA Det Germany 76-79 NATO USAER group. then 80-82 real Army, Ft Riley Big red One baby!
As you can see Big Rick we brits did it hardcore!!! we didnt 'sun it' in Crete, although it would have been nice , we had the 69thUSAFAD with us in Menden and we got on very well, only thing is you guys couldnt drink but you had the upper hand on the basketball court!!
Hey there, always wanted to visit the UK, and yeah miss those Mil. days, the old Army has it were, are you retired now or still serving? thanks for writing, did'nt know you guys had the Lance system, was surprised it went into the 90s. pls. keep in touch old solider, are you into hotrods or custom Vans? these days I do that trucking thing, always wanted to drive those little semis you guys have you know theres none better than KW!
How can you say "not surface to surface" when I was trained to be an SSM soldier (surface to surface missile!!), or at least they did when I wa a lad.
well i don't know where you served but a misile lauched from the ground to the air is called "GA", a missile lauched from air to groud "AG" etc... this is an international convention... But if you are english, so forget me, you're just not calling things like the others :)
I grew up in Menden with 50 missile as a kid in the 80's my old man was a s/sgt with HQ battery,
we used to play on the missiles and carriers daily, the british army's only groundbased nuclear regt. Are they clearing the stock's of the lance, as the regt no longer exists.
@mikepauletti We came back to the UK in 83, can't remember what month in 83 though. You might know him, if not you'll know a few of the lads that are family friends. My sister married a guy from 15 battery, he still goes to the reunions. My mum worked in the Church Army too. I'll send you a PM, don't really wan't to post a load of names on here.
First time I have seen the Lance fired from the Hebridesd. I notice that you are the LZL mode, which is the first time I've that done. You people rock!!

Fantastic video!!!
I was an American Lance missile officer in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Sad that the Brits didn't get to go to Crete for their firings. Nothing like two weeks of fun in the sun, with about three days of actual work.
Sure we had it "easy".
Of course, I don't recall any Brits tooling around the German countryside in sub-zero weather, either :)
