Reading the comments on here, its funny when people mention the GAMEBOY version of robocop - Because, its actually a C64 tune (the melody, also from robocop) - Composed by jonathan dunn, who was also involved in c64 demo scene ...However,this defintly isnt the c64 version used in this advert - Just the same melody. (i know it was converted to various other computers/consoles)
Fantastic ads, it's just a shame that Hotpoint/Ariston products nowadays are just a load of crap. Every Hotpoint product my family or friends have owned recently have failed not long after the initial warranty period.
@herbaliser555 Roughly the same era of gaming. The music is actually from the Gameboy version of Robocop. There was a spectrum version of that with the same tune.
This ad is so neat. Look at the crazy stuff that goes on - the crazy bunny guy getting carrots out of the fridge, and the mailman that puts the mail in the oven, then he steals the cake on top lol
Then on top of that, the awesome Robocop gameboy music.
I remember seeing this on TV when I was young and played Robocop on my gameboy alot. For years I thought I must have just imagined hearing the Robocop tune but it was true and I was right all along. Very bizarre, sure takes me back 20 years.
@tryptychUK Indesit owns Hotpoint too as far as I'm aware, along with Ariston, Creda and Cannon. (Not to be confused with Canon, with one "n" that make cameras.)
Thank you so much for uploading the full Ariston advert. This is the first time I have seen it in its entirety. I remember when i first saw this ad in the UK, I though OMG that is the theme tune to Robocop the computer game! I had this for my Speccy 128K when it was released late '88, all the 8-bit versions of the day had the same tune (Amstrad CPC 464, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum 128K), then a year later it was released in '89 on the original B&W Game Boy. This ad still amazes me to this day!
This is still astonishing more than 20 years after it first aired. My interest was originally piqued as I was a videogame nerd and recognised the Jonathan Dunn soundtrack (what an inspired and bizarrely abstract choice!) I think the video effects were initially lost on me because it was so many light years ahead of its time, but on repeateded viewing it's absolutely incredible to think this was possible in its day. An absolutely amazing achievement that must have sailed over so many heads.

My god I remember this back in the day, the 90's were all gameboys, micro machines and teenage mutant hero turtles and really memorable ads like these! Takes me back!!
WOW! You really learn something everyday. I got the this game (robocop gameboy)when it came out. I was about 9 and i always loved this song. I always thought it was something special, only a few people knew about. Come to find out this commercial was playing throughout Europe for over 2 years! WOW! I cant believe it,
Not only one of the most creative ads of its time but ever; I don't think I've seen a more creative ad since it was first shown on TV. The music (if you could call it that) and video is totally mesmerising which helps when selling products.
i could listen to that type of music for hours! its amazing. really reminds me of being a kid. Had a disc with something similar on the pc and used to do everyone's head in with it. It went missing! lol! would be great to find out what the tune was called.
The music for this advert is actually from the Robocop game for Gameboy by Ocean. It's true, do a search for the Gameboy reviewer and watch the part with the title screen, you'll notice it's the same tune.
I am floored. I have seen this 3 times in a row now and i have to watch it again. Was this full length version shown on tv on a regular basis or was it cut down?
Not nearly often enough! These days I use delayTV to skip adverts. I start watching the program and then pause it. Go and do something else for 15 minutes or so and then watch. That way I can fast forward past all the ads.
But this one? I think it's great. At the time I'd never seen anything like it. Could never believe it was CGI or blue screen - neither were good enough back then. Thanks to burntar666 for setting it straight. Really wish there was a "How we made this" video somewhere!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
One of the worst ads of all time imo. Annoying with excruciatingly painful to listen to soundtrack, not helped by the fact it was on all the f******* time - maybe that was the point. Since then I've vowed never to buy an Ariston\Indesit product.
When I saw the video for Come Into My World(Kylie Minogue) it reminded me a lot of the ariston advert. was it blue screen ? or green screen as they use now. Was clever though, pre dated other things I've seen.
No blue or green screen: all the mattework was difference matting with the actors shot insitu, one at a time or in pairs, whatever the action dictated. The reason for differnce matting was that the actors created reflections and shadows on the fabric of the set. We felt that retaining that sort of detail would make it far more convincing than the use of straight mattwork...
I'm figuring this was going back long enough for video trickery to be visible - so how many people were in this? Or was it really a video effect? Very curious - always thought this was a great advert.
Also, are you the one who picks up the envelope from the grill and then jumps up and down like you've won the lottery? If so - cool!!!
@gmomusic Please share with us how this was commercial was done. I take this exists of a whole day of choreography and even more rehearsal? And twins. Love the broken leg gag by the window cleaner. Please tell us how!
@gmomusic This is stuck in my head from my childhood. It's one of the earliest memories I ever have.... thanks for being a part of something that I'll never be able to bloody forget!! >.<
The soundtrack is Jonathan Dunn's track Robocop (a chiptune for the C64; also given a GameBoy version, which is the one used), which I'm not certain he got any royalties for.
nah ocean probably would have got it, and maybe just a 1 off payment for usage. My friend had some of his work used on tv and got a 1 of payment. Some of the 8 bit musicians are great though with what they do with the limits of the machines =) .In NO order, Jereon Tel / Rob Hubbard / Tim Follin / Martin Galway and many many more.

This is, without the smallest shadow of a doubt, the WEIRDEST ADVERT I HAVE EVER WITNESSED.
And I see commercials that don't make sense every single day on TV.
To say that the ones who did it were high would be an understatement....
And they had odd, but good music taste. It's also the first time I see videogame music on an ad...
