  • Reading the comments on here, its funny when people mention the GAMEBOY version of robocop - Because, its actually a C64 tune (the melody, also from robocop) - Composed by jonathan dunn, who was also involved in c64 demo scene ...However,this defintly isnt the c64 version used in this advert - Just the same melody. (i know it was converted to various other computers/consoles)

  • Fantastic ads, it's just a shame that Hotpoint/Ariston products nowadays are just a load of crap. Every Hotpoint product my family or friends have owned recently have failed not long after the initial warranty period.

  • :)

  • RIP me!

  • Why put letters in the oven, when you've got Hotmail?

  • 0:47 and 0:52 - the whole point of this advert is to choose which is your favourite bum.

  • @feckingbillgates 2:03 is the winner.

  • @zionravescene It's a difficult decision to make, but you could be right. Give me another few days of carefully examining the evidence.

  • The song sounds a lot like 'Treasure Island Dizzy'.

  • @herbaliser555 Roughly the same era of gaming. The music is actually from the Gameboy version of Robocop. There was a spectrum version of that with the same tune.

  • This definitely is from the C64 version. The music is SID :)

  • This ad is so neat. Look at the crazy stuff that goes on - the crazy bunny guy getting carrots out of the fridge, and the mailman that puts the mail in the oven, then he steals the cake on top lol

Then on top of that, the awesome Robocop gameboy music.

  • its from robocop spectrum. I can remember this ad

  • i_m going to kill myself on friday #wow #woah

  • @FlagrePung Casual friday?

  • Please name the composer of that brilliant tune :

    Jonathan Dunn.

  • I like the girl in gold's boobies

  • Just excellent !!! Never seen this version as it's so long But Cool As !

  • Does anyone remember the old advert with the clothes that went across the screen?

  • I've always I remembered this. It is a fusion of art and sound: but did it sell the product re: The Strand Advert!

  • This is, without the smallest shadow of a doubt, the WEIRDEST ADVERT I HAVE EVER WITNESSED.

And I see commercials that don't make sense every single day on TV.

To say that the ones who did it were high would be an understatement....

And they had odd, but good music taste. It's also the first time I see videogame music on an ad...

  • i liked the part where they said and on

  • I remember this advert... I never saw this long version! Very cleverly done considering it's about 20 years old!

  • I remember seeing this on TV when I was young and played Robocop on my gameboy alot. For years I thought I must have just imagined hearing the Robocop tune but it was true and I was right all along. Very bizarre, sure takes me back 20 years.

  • @imtheduke cool story bro

  • Do Ariston still make stuff.? Whatever they make I want to buy it!

  • @bombsiteweed They are still around, but under the name Indesit now.

  • @RabidRaccoonUK

    Hotpoint, actually. :)

  • @tryptychUK Indesit owns Hotpoint too as far as I'm aware, along with Ariston, Creda and Cannon. (Not to be confused with Canon, with one "n" that make cameras.)

  • @RabidRaccoonUK We bought a Cannon oven two-three years ago, so they're still around.

  • Awesome

  • I'm sure this advert is from 1991, thats when I remember it from anyway

  • ROBOCOP!

  • This advert has to be from 1989. I remember it so vividly :)

  • Everybody's doing the Tango!

  • Public disturbance in progress - report to the scene.

  • Thank you so much for uploading the full Ariston advert. This is the first time I have seen it in its entirety. I remember when i first saw this ad in the UK, I though OMG that is the theme tune to Robocop the computer game! I had this for my Speccy 128K when it was released late '88, all the 8-bit versions of the day had the same tune (Amstrad CPC 464, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum 128K), then a year later it was released in '89 on the original B&W Game Boy. This ad still amazes me to this day!

  • I'm pretty sure this was the game over music for Robo on the C64 as well as Gameboy but i'm not sure. The memory's hazy !! Either way...amazing.

  • This is still astonishing more than 20 years after it first aired. My interest was originally piqued as I was a videogame nerd and recognised the Jonathan Dunn soundtrack (what an inspired and bizarrely abstract choice!) I think the video effects were initially lost on me because it was so many light years ahead of its time, but on repeateded viewing it's absolutely incredible to think this was possible in its day. An absolutely amazing achievement that must have sailed over so many heads.

  • My god I remember this back in the day, the 90's were all gameboys, micro machines and teenage mutant hero turtles and really memorable ads like these! Takes me back!!

  • I love this advert

  • WOW! You really learn something everyday. I got the this game (robocop gameboy)when it came out. I was about 9 and i always loved this song. I always thought it was something special, only a few people knew about. Come to find out this commercial was playing throughout Europe for over 2 years! WOW! I cant believe it,

  • its the music from robocop video game!!

  • wow, i actually worked on this one years ago, i set up the 3 machine edit suite for it, didnt ever think id get to see it again. Amazing!

  • should bring adverts back from the 80's

better than the shit they play now.

an NO i dont wanna go for a poo at pauls!

  • the vocals are way off though... should be either 7 Ons then an Ariston, or 3 Ons and an Ariston really...

  • OMG. How many hours did I spend playing Robocop on the Speccy 128k? Millions? That includes loading time.

  • Brilliant. I've often thought about this ad from the old days and it's great to see it again. Thanks for putting it up!

  • this is where greenday got there idea for the video for redundant (i think)

  • I rememember these ads too, always the best ads out.

How the hell DID they make them????

  • Great find! I remember this advert when it was first shown - one of the most creative ideas for an advert for its time.

  • Not only one of the most creative ads of its time but ever; I don't think I've seen a more creative ad since it was first shown on TV. The music (if you could call it that) and video is totally mesmerising which helps when selling products.

  • Speccy 128k +2(+2A/+3) - yay!

  • It's actually from the Game Boy Robocop Game.

  • @Occono firts at all from commodore 64k robocop game :)

  • @Occono I'm pretty sure this music was on the Commodore 64 version too.

  • @Occono Or, rather, one of Ocean's other Commodore 64 games :)

  • is this For REAL?

  • i could listen to that type of music for hours! its amazing. really reminds me of being a kid. Had a disc with something similar on the pc and used to do everyone's head in with it. It went missing! lol! would be great to find out what the tune was called.

  • the lyrics sound annoying but still a classic uk advert though

  • Sounds like the Commodore 64 version of Robocop.

  • This is the Gameboy version. The C64 version was slightly faster than this one and was arranged differently.

  • WOW. Chip tune music rocks - I remember the ad but never knew it had such an awesome sound track :)

  • Does anyone know the title of the track?

  • haha, nice.

  • The music for this advert is actually from the Robocop game for Gameboy by Ocean. It's true, do a search for the Gameboy reviewer and watch the part with the title screen, you'll notice it's the same tune.

  • I am floored. I have seen this 3 times in a row now and i have to watch it again. Was this full length version shown on tv on a regular basis or was it cut down?

  • It wasn't shown often.

  • Not nearly often enough! These days I use delayTV to skip adverts. I start watching the program and then pause it. Go and do something else for 15 minutes or so and then watch. That way I can fast forward past all the ads.

But this one? I think it's great. At the time I'd never seen anything like it. Could never believe it was CGI or blue screen - neither were good enough back then. Thanks to burntar666 for setting it straight. Really wish there was a "How we made this" video somewhere!

  • Been waiting for someone to YouTube this for years now... ever since I saw it in a Clio revue like 15 years ago. Thank You!

  • So is that Colin Newman or what?

  • The best advert ever. Well it couldn't really go wrong with the best game music ever!

  • Didn't they have a version of this where the screen was split into four parts. Or am I going mad?

  • oh .... Zbigniew Rybczyński

  • How strange to see this again. I am the bald guy in the commercial who keeps popping up. not seen this since we made it..

  • When I saw the video for Come Into My World(Kylie Minogue) it reminded me a lot of the ariston advert. was it blue screen ? or green screen as they use now. Was clever though, pre dated other things I've seen.

  • No blue or green screen: all the mattework was difference matting with the actors shot insitu, one at a time or in pairs, whatever the action dictated. The reason for differnce matting was that the actors created reflections and shadows on the fabric of the set. We felt that retaining that sort of detail would make it far more convincing than the use of straight mattwork...

  • Yes, I feel the same way - Michel Gondry certainly has a thing about repeatedly circling and overlapping motifs. This ad must have inspired him!

  • I'm figuring this was going back long enough for video trickery to be visible - so how many people were in this? Or was it really a video effect? Very curious - always thought this was a great advert.

Also, are you the one who picks up the envelope from the grill and then jumps up and down like you've won the lottery? If so - cool!!!

  • @gmomusic Please share with us how this was commercial was done. I take this exists of a whole day of choreography and even more rehearsal? And twins. Love the broken leg gag by the window cleaner. Please tell us how!

  • @gmomusic It's Gareth Marks! You got to be focus of the last shot.

  • @gmomusic hi, will you be my friend?

  • @gmomusic Don't I recognise you from some other british TV then? because that bald man seems oddly familiar....

  • @gmomusic This is stuck in my head from my childhood. It's one of the earliest memories I ever have.... thanks for being a part of something that I'll never be able to bloody forget!! >.<

  • One of the best ads ever, the kind that only comes along once in a lifetime :-) It's advertising washing machines for those that don't know!

  • What in God's name was that advertising? It was amazing but really confusing.

  • it was advertisin the ariston washing machine but it is pretty confusing lol ;D

  • And the fridge, and the oven.

  • and on and on...

  • cool:)

  • Oh FANTASTIC!

This has to be the best advert ever!

Thank you so much for adding it. :)

  • i have been waiting about a year for someone to upload this. Burntar666, you are officially the best. Thanks for uploading

  • The soundtrack is Jonathan Dunn's track Robocop (a chiptune for the C64; also given a GameBoy version, which is the one used), which I'm not certain he got any royalties for.

  • nah ocean probably would have got it, and maybe just a 1 off payment for usage. My friend had some of his work used on tv and got a 1 of payment. Some of the 8 bit musicians are great though with what they do with the limits of the machines =) .In NO order, Jereon Tel / Rob Hubbard / Tim Follin / Martin Galway and many many more.

  • Ooh, thanks for the recommendations!

  • This is the BEST!!!!!!! Thanks for uploading!!!

  • I love this! When was is shown?

  • -]. I love that, lovely old track .[-
