I started getting into Sean Lennon's music - which I love - when I heard Rufus sing. What a talanted person. His sister, Martha is wonderful as well. This woman was their mother. She must have been an amazing mother to have raised these two unique and intriging artists. But as I listen to Kate's songs - I became aware of her music while listening to Martha - I see her children were fortunate to have such a beautiful singer and song-smith for a mother...R.I. P. fair Kate.
When this video was in rotation on Much Music, I found something very creepy and disturbing about it--the eerie music and incomprehensible lyrics, the montage of unhappy images, the chilly cinematography and the sisters' cold blue eyes.
The McGarrigle Sisters weren't the usual insipid guitar-strummers lumped into the Cancon 'folk' genre. Their music was quite sophisticated, on the level of Simon and Garfunkle, or Leonard Cohen, and quite deserving of the accolades they got.
R.I.P. Kate McGarrigle . . . such a powerful darkly brilliant song . . . I feel the video misses the mark completely except for the haunting cinema-noir images of the sisters. I always thought this song was about the rape of Srberenica - there where"Tyrants dwell". No time to be negative Kate but this video trivialized your profound music. You are sadly missed.
Thank you for the music Kate. Your voice will live on long after our generation has passed. Our children will find you and listen afresh. We were lucky; we saw you sing before us. God Bless
