I have an ibm thinkpad R50. My lcd backlight is having problems too. What your problem looks like the wires are shorting out from opening it and close it. (Its common for old computers to have that problem.) if you can get inside it you can problaby fix it yourself. You can see if the wires are aligned perfectly. If its something els just install a new backlight (The problem's not with the LCD) you can find one for the same cost as an HDMI cable. Trust me, it cost less for you to do it yourself.
i got a problem with my laptop too. when i plug in my charger, the screen is black and i cant see anything. however, when my charger is not plugged in, the screen works normally but it flickers. help please :)
@pilkjaer feel sorry for you. it's really annoying. My IBM was total crap. I think it was like 7 times on service during 3 years. Other have no problems at all. So it's probably just luck... Anyway, good luck to you with your problem!
pllllllllllllz help me i have the same problem that u showed in this visual...my hp compaq nx9040 laptop's screen has stopped working siddenly...but if u flash a light on it u can see a fainted screen.....plz let me know what should i do next....else evrything is working properly................plzzzzzzzzzzz help me
@amy15284 if u still have warranty - just go to HP-center. Otherwise cheapest will probably be to buy inventor from E-bay or similar and change it yourself. You probably can find on HP's page or somewhere on the web how to change it. At least IBM has technical documentation online, so you can see what you need to remove and in which order. But this all at your own risk of course.
You can buy inventor and just leave it to some electronic-workshop to get changed.
I have the same problem but the difference is that it turns of when its on the stand by mode, and sometimes the light doesnt start when I turn on the computer and in 5 -6 minutes it lights as IF NOTHING HAPPENED. Im so annoyed, I have taken it 3 times to the samsung service center but they cant do anything with it! What should I do ? ? :(
@shessohiigh First thing that you can do is to take it to the IBM service center =) No surprise that folk from samsung couldn't help you. All you need to do is ask them to replace inventor..
@ca280491 inventor was changed after 3rd visit to service center =) there were still LCD-wire wrong placed with some demage in isolation and i explicitly asked them to fix it. but it was no use. So had to open the laptop and fix it myself. took like 3-4 min.
there are detailed instructions on how to disassemble you ThinkPad on IBM-page
It look like you have wire for LCD that are loose. It is impossible to have wire broke in three years it did? Wire are strong
I think you need to open your laptop. then you should see wire that connection to LCD and to Motherboard. It is on top of your keyboard. Once you have remove keyboard and other thing on top. then find wire that connection to LCD, then press little hard as you can. That what happened to my laptop before. 1 of 2
@dltircuit Well, i had my PC on warranty, so it was free of charge. but if your warranty is over - just order inventor from EBAY and replace it yourself. instructions on how to disassemble your thinkpad can be found on thinkpads support page
i have the same problem with a t30, but just before the screen shut down, something like gpu starts to buzzing quietly and then shuts down, this don't happen with ac power conected, and i do not need to move the screen to lose the backlight
where do I buy the light circuit inverter .... think its my backlight that went out, doesn't know any store that sells the back light and one place wants to charge me 75.00 dollars for a 10.00 dollar part and 35 fee for taking it in and labor so they want around 300 ..lol
hi i have the same problem now im in tampa florida ,my laptop back light just turned off today im using a flash light to see the screen could you fix it for me ?:)
Looks like you've got a glitchy inverter - my guess is that the problem is caused by a worn power cord. Simply replace that and you're fine.
I've done this a few times before and while taking the laptop apart can be quite a bit of work, it's not really that big of an issue, and if you know a laptop parts dealer, a new cord will cost you $5, tops. In case your supplier is unwilling to sell just a cord, you could just buy a new inverter package for 40 bucks.
make sure you go the cheap route first and replace the light circuit invertor. They are about 5 to 10 dollars. They are nutorious to flicker and then go out.
Most laptop screens are backlit, often with a florescent light and an inverter circuit. Both of these pieces are guaranteed to break eventually, especially the bulb. Be sure to tell them that it is a very intermittent problem! If you want to make extra sure that they wont just give up and send the shit back, film the damned thing going black, and send them a link!
I know it sounds like overkill, but that's exactly what I had to do to get Dell to fix my laptop.
Hey go on ebay and buy an IBM screen and watch the video on how to replace it. Thats what im going to do and save ALOT of money. Its much easier than you think. The screen in only 20 dollars. When I buy my internet adapter it will be 40 bucks and still not the price of a new laptop. If you want things done you gotta do it your self. =)
there is a detailed documentation on the Lenovo page about how to remove everything from your ThinkPad. the thing is that this is not a problem with the screen. So this won't help the problem. just waste of money. better to buy power inventor..
looks like the power inverter for the backlight is burnt out shouldn't be too expensive to fix but awfully time consuming just like any repair to a laptop lol i find taking them apart is the toughest task unless its a t23 which will fall apart by itself crazy glue is whats holding the casing of my t23 together lol
That's happening to me as I watch. Is there anything that I can do to fix it? Is it a problem with the video card or with the LCD? Should I replace either?
The lcd is good, backlight looks ok. what looks bad is the lcd cable that connects to the motherboard (99% sure). get a replacement lcd cable on ebay and download the service manual from the site
and I think that the problem is with the string that connects the screen to the motherboard. Try fixing that. I'm not quite sure how it's called (I'm not good at english).
freecomputeradvise.webs.com has good techs that help you at no cost ide contact one of them they are who i use.
