Ewoks? Meh, it was originally supposed to be on Kashyyk rather than Endor but due to lack of funds they had to hire kids and make the ewoks, imagine how much more kickass a Wookie rebellion would have been (they were slaves under the empire)

That was not the case, the story I heard was that George wanted a primitive culture to beat the technological empire. He introduced Chewbacca for this purpose (and the final battle would have been on Kashyyk) but as the movies progressed, the Wookie's became too "technological" for George. That's when he invented the Ewoks.
