I know that its really hard to play the hungarian zither as a standalone instrument using 2 notes in the same time. Your technique is great. Thanks for showing!
I only have a toy zither ....but I think I'm going to steer clear of fret boards given my ability with guitars. But strung instruments are certainly my favorite.
A main difference is that the Hungarian Zither has accompaning strings which cannot be altered during play. The Appalachian dulcimer has 3 strings (or up to five) all of which can be shortened as they run across a fretted fingerboard. The main strings of the Hungarian Zither an the Appalachian dulcimer are similar indeed, especially when played in the technic I use... The other 6 or 8 strings are bordun strings which can play one tone only; there is no fretted fingerboard underneath them.
I , as a German, am sad to admit, that this definitly sounds better than the German Zither :). Might be because of the German songs for it (very boring and tacky)

Hi neotracer! This piece of music has no lyrics to it; and even if it did... I would have to admit that I don't speak Hungarian... (unfortunately!)

What is the difference between that and a dulcimer? I'm asking because that is what it looks more like than a zither.
