I'm trying to use the create tool, but every time I try I get a pop up saying the owner of the land doesn't allow it. Do you know any places I can practice with the tools and use a pose stand?
@bluewulv you'll need to find a place that has building rights enabled. That's a given anywhere. There's public and private sandboxes throughout the world you can use. Do NOT store your work here: it deletes every hour so save periodically by taking it to your inventory.
@tigeress18 Build-wise? To get the more advanced interface, open your Build Window. On the window, click "Edit", and click the button that says "More>>". This will open up the advanced interface to let you edit more things.
I'd look over each little item/option to see what they do. Experiment, play with prims. Granted, this vid's 2 years old. So I dunno if LL changed their interface at all.
@okajer When you select multiple objects, press Ctrl L to link, Shift Ctrl L to delink. The last object selected will be the 'parent' prim, and the coordinates and inventory of the object will relate to this prim.
When you have objects linked, selecting the tab 'edit linked parts' from the build window can allow you to move prims in a linked set. For more building tips, I'd check out the Ivory Tower.

@GeekUltra It's free unless you want to own mainland (and you can use in-game currency to pay for it), safe, laggy, fucks with your head, and is poorly optimized as far as rendering goes. (Bad cache handling + memory leak = gameplay that gradually decreases the longer you play.)

@raquazalmj Ctrl+L links, Shift+Ctrl+L delinks. When linked, you can modify individual prims as well via the "select linked prims" option on the build menu.
@SpaceBall96 To learn building, I'd go to the Ivory Tower in-game. It's a massive building that gives you a walkthrough on how all the building tools work.
@FRURMELLL To buy in-game money and land it does. You can also make money via selling things, and the exchange rate works in reverse for buying and selling L$.
@ZombieZephyr don't forget the exchange rates for turning L into real world cash sucks but Sl in general is ok i mostly role-play on the doomed ship and maybe buy a new avatar here and there.. but they are a greedy company with no real oversight on anything its basically a lawless land

Is it completely free to join second life AND build a furry avatar like this? Because I wanna join secold life with a furry avatar but don't have extra money to spend on a game.
I was considering starting a profile on this site, which I did, but I found out I had no money to start with, and I wanted to become a lion. But if this is the way to make your character a furry, I give up on this site. That's just way too complicated for me.
It takes a lot of practice to get to where I was at. And those who don't have the resources or time to get there have to resort to buying things. Hell, in hindsight it might as well be a pyramid scheme.
There are a ton of freebies you can use and modify, and textures only cost L10$ to upload (that goes for sculpties also!)
Depending on how detailed you want it, you can make any avatar for as little as $2 USD as long as you put the thought into it first... o.o (upload temporary texture is your best friend, lets you upload a texture for free for 24 hours :3)
@FireLilyX uploads on inworldz are free unlike SL's charge for every upload.
The only thing is, if anyone from SL checks out inworldz, the default grid landing sim is LAG CITY and scripts are turned off, but if you TP off that sim to other sims, its basically SL
Accts there are also free, and you can use the SL viewer 1.23 as I do if you know how to set its grid url on the log-in page. Hippo, imprudence and other viewers also work.
They have public sandboxes, the physiX engine comes on Jan 1
@FireLilyX why would you want to? inworldz is a stand- alone grid like SL, it is not one of those dinky opensim things run out of someone's garage like 3rdrock, they have a server farm lease with a large provider in calif who invested millions into their facility lately, the server room inworldz is on is huge, they posted photos of the racks and the expansion room on their forums. They added 100 new sims in the last month, 23,000 accounts and they make a decent profit
@doggiejigs soon as the PhysiX engine starts Jan 1st it will take off and leave those home garage server type opensim places in the dust. The COMMUNITY that exists is friendly, helpfull, great folks, not like you see on SL. Many big businesses/creators have or are moving there, even Bob Bunderfeld moved there and has 4 sims. Bob was a beta tester for SL he recently quit SL in disgust and walked away from it due to the policies and problems. Now merging the teens in with the adults OMG!
@FireLilyX check out the quick video I did, the quality is not great because I used a camcorder on the monitor and then the youtube conversion further degrades sharpness and colors, but you can see what my 2 sims look like and how I had no lag, not even across the border was there more than a little bump. I have the parcel stream on, draw and other settings on conservative. You cant beat $75 a mo for full sims with 35,000 prims. My 2 are like AZ and NM for terrain.
@zerghellion To get into a pose position, you will need to either stand on a pose stand that auto-plays the animation, or sit somewhere and play a premade one.
I'd ask around for a pose stand, most are free or are very cheap (about 10L).

@GoneGuru99 They're shutting down TG and moving the 16+'s onto MG. Anyone younger will be booted off from the game, though they'll likely still see lawsuits with the 16 and 17's interacting with the 30+'s.
I however would've already been on MG when it'll take place (~3 months) so I wouldn't've been effected.

And we were all going to make furries, could you mind telling me how you make your own avatar the way you are? We are clueless ^^' and not finding straight answers any where else.
@halopromise Definitely not something you're going to be able to do right off the bat. If you really want/need an avatar, you're better off buying one or getting a (non-illegal) freebie.
In order to make custom avatars you'll have to learn how to build first, and how SL works in terms of uploading, item creation, and outfit management. I'd recommend checking out the Ivory Tower in-world for a crash course in building.

@TheFoxSummoner First, I honestly wouldn't even try to play SL, just given what's in there, and the fact that you are underage. (It's flat-out corrupt and will screw with your life especially if you start that young.)
But, as with any program check their website and look at the system requirements, and make sure your computer is up to par. If it's not, you will not be able to play until you upgrade your computer.
So Rating on the difficulty to make a furry avatar. What would you rate it?

Just make sure it enables the T-stance and not the default edit appearance stance: the latter isn't useful for AV design.

The fact of the matter is the "fandom" as it's become known as that is signified by [yiffing, fursuiting,etc] only accouts for about 15-18% of furries, so before you go bashing the fandom you should learn about it. Honestly I would hope that someone who used such intelligent punctuation and grammar wouldn't be so closed minded and idiotic, But I guess that goes to show you that typing correctly is just a way to mask ignorance.

The problem with furries is they sometimes think themselves a protected status. Anything sacred is satisfying to corrupt online: don't try to protect the fandom and it (and you) won't be trolled, simple as that.

@raquazalmj Ctrl+L links, Shift+Ctrl+L delinks. When linked, you can modify individual prims as well via the "select linked prims" option on the build menu.

@SpaceBall96 To learn building, I'd go to the Ivory Tower in-game. It's a massive building that gives you a walkthrough on how all the building tools work.

@starfoxfan216 That would be true. I was hacked and all my items were opensourced, including my personal avatar and various customs that both I had commissioner and been commissioned to make.
I try not to care, but it'd be nice if you could delete the crate. Though personally I wouldn't mind if you wanted to use the weapons I built.

This is a great tutorial and shows how much work goes into an av, Rand's fox av is stunning, so is the water horse by someone else.
I sold my 4 sims off in SL, they have gotten insane, $295/mo for a sim is a new car payment.
I bought 2 sims in inworldz which is an SL-like grid that's MUCH cheaper.
There isnt the variety of content there is in SL yet but its growing fast and you cant beat the $75/mo full sims with 35,000 prims.
There's a number of furries there

I was considering starting a profile on this site, which I did, but I found out I had no money to start with, and I wanted to become a lion. But if this is the way to make your character a furry, I give up on this site. That's just way too complicated for me.

There are a ton of freebies you can use and modify, and textures only cost L10$ to upload (that goes for sculpties also!)
Depending on how detailed you want it, you can make any avatar for as little as $2 USD as long as you put the thought into it first... o.o (upload temporary texture is your best friend, lets you upload a texture for free for 24 hours :3)

@FireLilyX uploads on inworldz are free unlike SL's charge for every upload.
The only thing is, if anyone from SL checks out inworldz, the default grid landing sim is LAG CITY and scripts are turned off, but if you TP off that sim to other sims, its basically SL
Accts there are also free, and you can use the SL viewer 1.23 as I do if you know how to set its grid url on the log-in page. Hippo, imprudence and other viewers also work.
They have public sandboxes, the physiX engine comes on Jan 1

@FireLilyX why would you want to? inworldz is a stand- alone grid like SL, it is not one of those dinky opensim things run out of someone's garage like 3rdrock, they have a server farm lease with a large provider in calif who invested millions into their facility lately, the server room inworldz is on is huge, they posted photos of the racks and the expansion room on their forums. They added 100 new sims in the last month, 23,000 accounts and they make a decent profit

@doggiejigs soon as the PhysiX engine starts Jan 1st it will take off and leave those home garage server type opensim places in the dust. The COMMUNITY that exists is friendly, helpfull, great folks, not like you see on SL. Many big businesses/creators have or are moving there, even Bob Bunderfeld moved there and has 4 sims. Bob was a beta tester for SL he recently quit SL in disgust and walked away from it due to the policies and problems. Now merging the teens in with the adults OMG!

@FireLilyX check out the quick video I did, the quality is not great because I used a camcorder on the monitor and then the youtube conversion further degrades sharpness and colors, but you can see what my 2 sims look like and how I had no lag, not even across the border was there more than a little bump. I have the parcel stream on, draw and other settings on conservative. You cant beat $75 a mo for full sims with 35,000 prims. My 2 are like AZ and NM for terrain.

@zerghellion To get into a pose position, you will need to either stand on a pose stand that auto-plays the animation, or sit somewhere and play a premade one.
I'd ask around for a pose stand, most are free or are very cheap (about 10L).

@ZombieZephyr Oh dude that sucks. Rumor is the teen grid is shutting down all together anyway. I would have been so pissed off if that had happened to me.. you had 440,000 L$ in that video. You totally didn't deserve it and I doubt TSL will see a builder as good as you again.

@GoneGuru99 They're shutting down TG and moving the 16+'s onto MG. Anyone younger will be booted off from the game, though they'll likely still see lawsuits with the 16 and 17's interacting with the 30+'s.
I however would've already been on MG when it'll take place (~3 months) so I wouldn't've been effected.

You're better off finding a freebie or buying one from a maker.

I wish you didn't get hacked so long ago. You're really good at this and these videos will be useful for learning to make an avi.. I'm a newb at building, so I gotta get used to making simple things before moving on to really complicated things like avis. :S So far, I made a skybox and a posing stand.

Ok. Time for a stupid question you may have heard 1000 times. Me and a few of my friends have recently downloaded this game. And we were all going to make furries, could you mind telling me how you make your own avatar the way you are? We are clueless ^^' and not finding straight answers any where else.

@halopromise Definitely not something you're going to be able to do right off the bat. If you really want/need an avatar, you're better off buying one or getting a (non-illegal) freebie.
In order to make custom avatars you'll have to learn how to build first, and how SL works in terms of uploading, item creation, and outfit management. I'd recommend checking out the Ivory Tower in-world for a crash course in building.

@TheFoxSummoner First, I honestly wouldn't even try to play SL, just given what's in there, and the fact that you are underage. (It's flat-out corrupt and will screw with your life especially if you start that young.)
But, as with any program check their website and look at the system requirements, and make sure your computer is up to par. If it's not, you will not be able to play until you upgrade your computer.
