I went to a garage sale and the person wanted $99.99 for this along with a charger. I was able to play with it for a bit. Nice laptop it seems like. I asked the person to hold it (and they said yes) so I'll go buy it soon cause I really like it. And if I dont want to use it, i can just resell with no problem/

Owned this laptop for 2 years and it served me well. Did all my homework on it from college, all my gaming needs, and lots of other things. I did almost buy an xps 1730 but I wanted to go lightweight at the time.

i have this laptop XPS M1530 and i can tel you that for one year this laptop has been awesome, no problem with gaming but then after a year the Gpu started overheating when playing GTA (and by the way u have to put the settings on MINIMUM to play GTA, otherwise u need a better graphics card
@bwonedotcom It would run GTA SA pretty well but it would struggle a little with GTA IV the processor is ok to hit mins but the graphics card may cause a few problems as it is only 256MB.

@StarryMalaka Your fans may not be working properly and may need to be replaced. But first try to blow dust out of the fans by getting a can of compressed air and pushing the dust out. This is usually the cause of overheating on laptops. If not then you will want to contact dell to get the fans replaced.
@japorms318 depends on the specs you initially get. I wouldn't focus on that rating much as its based on "your as good as your weakest link" meaning the lowest score you get in one of the categories is your main score which doesn't make much sense and isn't accurate. Its one of the reason software developer haven't adopted the ratings when they put the specs up for their games and programs.
clean the fan. I have a M1530. I had the same problem. you have to do to open the valve on the lower side. it is the fan on the heat-pipe (the black housing). dust blocking the hot air. I had temperatures up to 98 Celsius.
I have one. Runs pretty every game I throw at it except for Crysis. I instaled Windows 7 64 bit and Ubuntu 9.10 in dual boot. Works just fine, no driver issues at all. Good stuff.
I still have the Dell XPS M1530 with original specs, but more software. I haven't regretted the update to W7 whatsoever! If you can get it with a good price, i'd do it (lots of discount for students for example). Upgrades would cost me 2 much for a laptop I've got for 2,5 years, BUT a gpu update is possible, but I can't guarentee the cpu will correspond the same way you expect the gpu to work...
@Arstim why would the cpu and gpu corresponde to eachother isnt it usually the motherboard that creates an issue when installing a new cpu and gpu with different drivers such as chipset and gpu drivers ?

Definately. I can get 30-45 FPS at peak times in Dalaran, in excess of 70 FPS in most cities and off-peak Dalaran. I did get the 4GB memory upgrade though, but I'm sure it's pretty much the same with or without.

quick question why did you put 667 memory in there? it forces your pc to run at 667fsb not 800 so it leaves a bottle neck i would of put pc2-6400 not pc2-5300
I really dont know why everyone considers dell to be well known for its customer care. I made the mistake of ordering for a comp from the company and it was the worst misake of my life. The comp did not work from the day it arrived and the took such a long time to replace it that the model itself was now not available and now those cheeky buggers have sent me a quotation asking me to pay extra for a very similar machine.

I ordered one of these, same configuration except I have a 2.5Ghz Core 2 Duo. I am hoping for the best. Didn't go with the hi-def screen, high-res LED backlight though. Call me a worrier but are the magnets in the case capable of causing any damage to the screen/HDD?
the video card 8600m gt with only 256 mb is a bit outdated in my opinion... i hope they refresh their lineups and have an upgradable vdeo card to nvidia 9600m gt with 512 mb for better gaming experience.
It's hard to be up to date. Nvidia seems to come out with a new card every other month. 8600m gt runs most games today...not the best quality but it does the job.

my order was delayed twice during december, very frustrating. oh and i didnt receive any of the cool little accessories like the earbuds, case, or dust wipe. very annoyed by this and talking to dell to see if they will fix this issue.

I ordered one of these, same configuration except I have a 2.5Ghz Core 2 Duo. I am hoping for the best. Didn't go with the hi-def screen, high-res LED backlight though. Call me a worrier but are the magnets in the case capable of causing any damage to the screen/HDD?

the video card 8600m gt with only 256 mb is a bit outdated in my opinion... i hope they refresh their lineups and have an upgradable vdeo card to nvidia 9600m gt with 512 mb for better gaming experience.

It's hard to be up to date. Nvidia seems to come out with a new card every other month. 8600m gt runs most games today...not the best quality but it does the job.
