I don't think Mangwana is on this video, the sensous voice is Malage De Lugendo's, then the youngest singer with tp ok jazz . Rahndi could you please tell me where is can donload or buy a bunch of this misic, i would like to have a whole i-pod load of it.
Where was this video made? It reminds me of the performance at the Manhattan Center in the 80s - the one and only time we ever saw Franco et TPOK Jazz perform -- Thank you!
this sounds great the dancers are terrific,i l like franco's voice!especially talking to the audience!.what a fantastic night out this would have been thankyou rahndi !!
It seems to me that Tabuley was at his best when he partnered with Dr. Nico at the African Fiesta band. The music he produced there was fresh and imaginative. After the dissolution of African Fiesta, he became more soukou oriented. I am not too crazy about soukou: That droney, constant pounding of the bass drum, freezes creativity, and I think that is why Tabuley's later works is unappealing to many, including me.
Yeah hew was great but don't forget to mention the people he killed to gain his fame. Watch his testimony on his last days...he regretted killing the people he killed! What a shame, I really had respected him but no more after watching that video.
You are giving me a shock!!grr!!..you mean?i had never known this.was there a vedio shot for his testimony?id love to listen to it-hopefully it is english.what does 'le rumor' say?i remember reading where he said it was mere accusations-but where is smoke there is definitely fire burning..
This is actually a biased talk and prejudicing Luambo. Where you come from, its like no natural deaths occur, somebody imaginably dies having had his/her death planned and executed by another person. Surely tell more, how did such killings make him famous? Could you kill today and then see if it will bring fame onto you too? Very interesting I bet.
oh, i love this song - especially the beginning. Mangwana's voice is sensous, and defies description. For me Mangwana is the greatest singer Congo ever produced. Although I do reveer Tabu ley and Madilu's voice. Thank you so much for posting this video. do u know where i can get THE DVD???? that is if you live in London.
You likely have access to more Franco content than I do in the U.S.A. I love Mangwana but really marvel at Youlou Mabiala's voice. Madilu, great with OK Jazz but on his own, very disappointing, forgettable and trendy. Funny, but I never liked Tabu Ley. I have several of his CD's but I never play them. He did his best vocals and writing on the two CD's he did with Franco. He and everyone else seemed to raise their "game" when they were with Franco. Franco was uncompromising and they knew it.
i think u r correct. we do indeed have a huge collection here in europe but it's dispersed. I couldn't agree with you more, my brother. Franco is without a doubt the greatest artist of the 20th century.
yes, that may yet be true. Youlou, and all dem others had amazing voices too. I suppose, in a way, it's not good to be comparative. since all the singers in their own unique way possessed great talent
In all honesty and giving credit where it is due, I think that both Rochereau and Franco are giants in African Music; any normative distinction between them is to be found purely in one's (listener's) lyrical biases and persuasions, period.
I partly agree with you on the greatness of Youlou's voice. But differ when you say it was greatest at this time. I tend to think this was a time when we had many upcoming fired-up singers like Maladge, Carlyto etc doing their things. When you listen to these gentlemen you will agree they are geniuses.
Second this being live performance has much of show (Entertainment) focus than message intent. Singers are always controlled by song message, forum/occassion and writer's approach.
Wawaria, sad you won elections in Kenya but lost on a `technicality`. I bet it will be wrong to comment on individuals` performance over the others. Listen to Franco on vocals with `tres impoli` and a duet with Lugendo on `Mado. TPOK was just an orchestra of great artists.
True friend, politics is tearing our Country apart. Very sad only the mighty one knows.
Yes TPOK was a gem that no one will attain in near future. If you want know listen to IDA and CELIO and you'll like Lugendo and Calyto then realise TPOK is TPOK, just that.
Methinks it is a matter of preferences....to me ''La Pigeon Voyageur'' comes third after Youlou, Josky, him, Djo Mpoyi, Madilu etc Nway they were all good, name them lugendo, wuta mayi, Ya ntesa, Ndombe......i totally concur with rahndi that they would ''up their act'' when featuring for TPOK... God bless them
....this man knew his business very well and was way ahead of the game. Wonder what the world of music would be if he was still around.

You are very right..but i think the hits of Tabley's cherie samba is still captivating:).Franco 'otoyo' is still a hero in this setting.I concur..
