This is a wonderful video, they walk like a horse whould walk, it looks so much better than the poor things do nowadays, and these horses here don't have the painful and paniked look on their faces.. The world needs more of these vids to show the real goal of how TWHs and other gaited horses should walk and look like...

THANK YOU for posting this! I wish we could go back to the natural look--not the horribly tortured horses and spider-crawling freaks of today. But, this is a wonderful way to see how the NATURAL TWH has evolved. Thanks!

The walking horses in the video were extremely pacey. Deffinatly like the new age walking horses better. They were more racking than walking. Great video though.

Thanks for posting this. I showed gaited American Saddlebreds in the 70's and 80's. Boy things have really changed with the ASB and Walkers since then.

Thanks for sharing this! It sadly shows how much walkers have changed over the years due to breeding for the big lick. None of those horses is pacy, they can all canter, and have strong, square, natural gaits.

Great to see this! My first 5-gaited horse was showing in 1949, although it was late 1958 before I got him. :) Amazing to see how fox-trotty the "real" running walk was! In Alabama it was more pacy by the mid-to-late '50's. Do you know if this is the same Bob Jenkins who was showing road horses from the Atlanta area in the 60's with his father, Carl?

This Bob Jenkins would have been about 50 in 1960. He was a tall man with dark hair and a large moustache. His wife's name was Edith.

My father is Neil Fischer and he's riding the gray horse. We had some family movies transferred to VHS years ago and recently transferred them to digital. My Dad died on April 15 of this year and I decided to put the video on YouTube just in case some other folks still alive might have competed long ago. My Dad never rode horses when we were little, so it's amazing to realize that he was an accomplished horseman.
