@jwindyboy Did you not realize that I actually (and clearly) supported Jay Bennett's genius in this post? By all accounts, he was a real pain to work with (and struggled with substance abuse, which doesn't make it easier), but he's the genius that made Wilco what it was. When he left, things changed for the worst.
Also, did you notice that I called Tweedy the drug addict, not Jay?
@dashofchutmeg Are you kidding me? Wilco was great with Jay, Uncle Tupelo is great. Son Volt is great. Jeff has the band he wants around him now, nels on guitar come on man. They're the best band going, have you heard live at the Vic? Jay overdosed not Jeff, he had medical problems and went to rehab and is here.
@dashofchutmeg I know he was addicted to painkillers, I have it. He's clean Jays in the ground, terrible. I love what they did together, but as he said there course was run. I think Jeff now has the band around him he always wanted. I'm from St. Louis I used to go see Uncle Tupelo at Missippi nights, long time fan. I never said Jeff was an ANGEL, Jay put some great music to Jeff's songs. I love the difference from a.m. to being there, he was what Jeff needed or Wilco would have failed.
I know they didn't ever find common ground, but if you added Jay (r.i.p.) to the current Wilco lineup it would be the finest band ever. Just my thought. p.s. Does this remind anyone else of Lennon and McCartney playing. "Two of Us"?
@flooberbloob I don't think it was a musical problem. It was Jay trying to do too much and being a pisser when things didn't go his way. Then Tweedy decided that he couldn't deal with being a painkiller addict and dealing with an ego as large as his own, and kicked him out. Shame, too. Wilco may be making money, but they're just an Americana-flavored jam band at this point. Zzzzzzzzzzzzz.
jeff, you got another piece of gum?

They should make a movie about Jay Bennett and Philip Seymour Hoffman should play him. Yea?

@brammerface When I saw "I am Trying to Break Your Heart", I shared a laugh w/a friend at how much Jay reminded me of Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Super! Who cares about all the behind the scenes stuff? This is a great performance and Jay Bennett was the coolest.

@jczother Read the book "Learning How to Die" so you can see that Jeff Tweedy was indeed a pillhead. You're wrong.

The people at the desk behind them chatting and shuffling papers are obviously huge Wilco fans.
