Patients completed a self-reported questionnaire. As of March 5, 2008, 116 of a possible 172 questionnaires have been returned, and enrollment is continuing. Patients were categorized as IM IFNβ-1a long-term users (patients currently on IM IFNβ-1a) and non-long-term IM IFNβ-1a users. Results: Of 116patients enrolled, 11% (13) are deceased. The 103 patients still living have a mean age of 52.0 years. Overall, 51% (53/103) of non-deceased patients are IM IFNβ-1a long-term users....
I forgot to add, search here for the youtube pages of "vbeachy", "laurenvparrott" and "schubfrei" for Tysabri experiences that seem to be excellent...Best and God bless you.
Thanks for the info. I will check into it. My doctor has me on Avonex and has not had me switch to anything else. I know Avonex and what to expect. Maybe it's the stories that I've heard about Tysabri that keeps me away from it. I just feel that I don't need any more problems.
I think you are referring to the trials 4 years ago when some patients were getting both Tysabri and Avonex, which was too much. But since then the stories have been very good, and I myself hope to start on Tysabri within the month. Yes chcek out youtube or check out the MSworld message boards. BEST of Luck.
Taz.... I am listening to your experience, especially the difficult side effects. I dont know how anyone can plan around injecting themselves regularly into directly into their muscles for the rest of their days. Have you considered the new drug Tysabri ? It is twice as effective and is only a monthly IV infusion.
6/23 is my 5th Avonex Anniversary. Sometimes I question why I go thru this, especially because of the sides. they seem ok 1 week & horrible the next. even the "quality" of the shots change; sometimes they're nothing, other times so painful (like lightening). This posting is very motivational & all I can say is a heartfelt thank you!
I also take Avonex injections, but only since a few months now. I got diagnosed 6 months ago. I salute you, dear 'colleague'. :-) I hope to be as fit as you in ten years.
My husband has been on Avonex for little over 6 months. He is having a hard time injecting himself in the leg. Is there any other alternative?.
