The eklund vs stout was a crapy fight yes, but Eklund had the better standup but he was stupid enough to try to take it to the ground, stout didnt do shit other then waving in the air and defending takedowns..
Stout`s standup didn´t hurt Eklund. He shouldn´t continue his gameplan: taking Stout down. Per Eklung would have been well adviced to stand up and trade.
guess what? Eklund lost 30-27, easy UD for Sam. Eklund knew he couldnt strike with Stout so he repeatedly went for takedowns for the whole fight. Just too bad for him he couldnt actually get the takedown, as he was stuffed every time. Congrats to Sam Stout!!!!
First round, Stout didn't do anything. Second and third he actually won legitimately. I hope Stout's contract runs out, because he didn't do anything to end the fight.
And if you have hands of stone, why not actually throw punches that are closer than 3 feet from hitting your opponent?
All in all, both fighters didn't show _anything good_, Stout just opted to not show anything at all...
yeah, Stout showed nothing at all and won every round on 2 judges scorecards. What did Eklund show? failed takedown attempt x10? running out of gas? 1 knee and 1 kick?
Did you miss the part where I wrote neither of them showed anything good? It was a disappointing fight, and both of them should've showcased their qualities.
There was no winner in that fight, and to be honest, I think it's sad that it ended up a win in Stout's record, because it was one of the worst performances I have ever seen in the UFC. Eklund showed pretty poor takedowns for a "grappler", and Stout showed how he can't connect with more than one strike per round, even badly.
I saw the part where you said that, but then you said "Stout just opted to show nothing at all" Huh? Its the complete opposite, if anyone didnt show anything, its the guy who lost 30-27.
No winner? LOL. Youre just showing your bias for Eklund. Just because a fight doesnt end in a KO or sub, or its not really entertaining, doesnt mean nobody won. No matter how you want to look at it, Stout is the winner and Eklund is the loser.
Anyone who saw the fight and has no bias would tell you neither of the fighters showed any strengths at all, except for Stout's takedown defense (which I think you can blame on bad performance on Eklund's part). Why say there was no winner? Because neither of them showed that they want to be fighting in the UFC. Stout, who has octagon experience, should've been a lot more active and should've actually connected with strikes. He wasn't and he didn't, so he's as much of a loser as Eklund.
a win is a win. You could say he wasnt impressive in his victory, but he still won. If the decision was a robbery, I could understand, but it was a CLEAR decision. Stout got the W today, whether you want to admit it or not.
I'm with you on him getting a win in his record, but what I'm saying is he didn't show strength in any area at all, except takedown defense in his match versus Eklund. Eklund showed absolutely no strength, except when he was clearly outboxing Stout early in the first round, and landing some good kicks. That, along with the already mentioned takedown defense of Stout, practically was everything the match had to offer.
As someone said, the only thing Eklund developed was the couple of strikes he landed and some nice kicks in the first round.
Stout looked scared after the first jab eklund landed.
Anyway he have had some big problems with his training and his corner was a really big joke, there wasn't a single grappler there telling him what to do.
LMAO @ scared. scared of what? Pretty much the whole fight was Stout coming forward throwing punches, Eklund backing away, then Eklund dropping and grabbing a leg, then lying on is back. If anyone was scared, it was Eklund to stand and trade. And even when Stout did go to top position on the ground with Per, Eklund did absolutely nothing from the bottom. after watching the fight in its entirety, Im amazed this Eklund guy ever got a contract in the first place.
Eklund made a fool out of himself, and it was kind of embarassing to see. If someone looked scared, that was Eklund, lying there with his arms behind his head. Even when he got on top and in Stouts guard, he was to damn tired to move. If you don't have enough cardio to go 3 rounds, don't fucking participate in the first place.
I think that his performance was like a joke. He was laying down on his back several times doing nothing. Like he was resting or something. If I were in the audience I would have booed at him.
I think it's pretty obvious. Someone with an established advantage on paper in a certain area will try to get there. Did you miss the part where Eklund is a grappler?
Is this the part where I discover you're really just some guy who plays "Halo" and thinks the UFC is "the bomb" because there are big KOs, and I just give up on having a serious discussion about the match?
You obviously don't know that much about the actual sport of MMA, and you show no signs of improving on that point.
I knew Eklund was a grappler coming into the fight, I had seen him fight before. But if it was clear that Stout was not going to jump into his guard, because he wanted to stay standing, why continue to lie on the floor? I see no reason.
Eklund obeyed the referee's commands, and that's it. If the ref says he should stand up, he stands up. There is no reason to do that unless the ref tells you to. Would you stand up if you're a better grappler than your opponent and the ref doesn't tell you to stand up? If your answer is yes, I don't think you should go near a discussion of MMA strategy.
"Would you stand up if you're a better grappler than your opponent and the ref doesn't tell you to stand up? If your answer is yes, I don't think you should go near a discussion of MMA strategy."
if my opponent doesnt want to come to the ground, I have to stand up if I get the chance, because you're not gonna win a fight on your back with your opponent standing in front of you.
You're neglecting the fact that if Stout doesn't show any interest in going to the mat in that situation, the ref will simply stand the fighter up. Any bonus time you can catch between there, lying down, is obviously going to give you some extra energy.
Eklund knew Stout wasn't going to go there with him, so instead of being careless and stand up prematurely, he does the smart thing and waits until the ref says he should stand up.
I can agree with you on that, simply because it seemed like Eklund was tired. If he was trying to catch his breath, I guess I can understand staying there on the ground. It doesnt look good to the judges though.
Yes, I agree, the judges aren't impressed by it, but I don't know if I want fighters to be impressing the judges. I'd rather they were smart and tried to force their gameplan on their opponents. That's not to say I thought Eklund did that, though... I don't think he was smart when he went for the takedown that much. He could've tried to get an opening while outboxing Stout, which he did in the beginning of the first round.
Hoppas han vinner men jag är mest orolig för att hans match i UFC 80 inte kommer att visas. Sista matchen på galan :-( så man får hoppas på snabba matcher.
