  • Ghostly...

  • Now I'm absolutely drooling.. The Hurri is my favourite British WWII fighter, a much undersestimated plane that finally is getting the credit it so well deserves, as the real saviour of Britain in the B o B.. :) Liked the look of that wandering glue pot... :)

  • Nice video technique, but was he using Cyanoacrylate - 'CA' to glue balsa? Surely not a long lasting bond like PVA or balsa cement.

  • I find I use 'super glue' for almost everything now.. canopies apart! I just like the fact that it sticks and you can just move on.. Mind you, I have a 'slow' setting CA.. :) It's goo practise for my resin Saab B18.. a kit that set me back £50-ish, so I don't want to ruin it!! Just ned a good proper dustmask before I tackle the resin, the resindust is NOT good for you.. and there's a lot of sawing, filing, cutting and sanding to do on that kit, to get the fit.. so it WILL get dusty!! :)

  • B18, nice!

Goo practise is entirely neccesary for controlling your glue :)

  • I did that little resin glider, but will dfo at least one more resin model with a vac-form canopy for the sake of practise.. before I tackle the B18.. Ideally I'd love to do all three versions of the B18, but that'll set me back a total of £150+ and that is well out of my league! I settled for the radial engined version, which was the slowest type.. they later fitted them with German engines, which made them faster, but in my opinion also a lot UGLIER.. :)

  • They fitted lancasters with radials but that looked very WORNG! If you get my drift ;)

  • It suits some planes, but not all.. There's two different 1/72 kits out now of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 X, with a radial engine and 'bubble' canopy.. Looks mighty weird, but I'll probably get one at some point.. :)

  • Bizzare! I looked it up, looks a bit like an La-5?!

  • Yes.. very odd!

  • @GerbilEssences Yeah, I did use CA glue on balsa... It was just supposed to last for the video (and make it go FASTER) and I have the plane now covered in transparent monocote. It will hang in my classroom come this September.

  • Also he is using the guillows wood which is utter CR^P! I started the tail section of the Me109E and cut copies from real wood (didn't take long). When I compared the weight of the vertical stabiliser parts in the kit it weighed 0.7 grams, and the regular balsa parts I made weighed 0.0... (off the bottom of the scale).

Their wood is just too heavy to fly!!! 7 times too heavy.

That said the plan and the shapes (good stiff guides for cutting your own light pieces) do look very quality.

  • Have to take your word for it.. I do think he generally uses a bit more powerful stuff than rubber bands (with or without twang) to power his models though, so weight may be less of an issue in his case.. MY models fly IF I throw the hard enough.. not very long, straight or level.. but they DO fly.. :)

  • Yes there are some crimes that carry a less severe penalty with a big motor attached. Bricks for instance, can 'fly' with a large enough rocket attached ;) Even the Hagelkorn missile had concrete wings.

When was the last time you made a model fly? Was it that Sukhoi? (Was it complete?) ;D

  • The 'Frogfoot' was the last model of mine to fly... :) As for the 'Cy', it has made some progress, but needs a bit more work.. Haven't given up on it yet though, it will look like an aeroplane when done.. not sure if it will look like what it should look like, though.. :) Hope to 'Finnish' off the MiG-15 over the weekend.. and / or the S-Tank, so I can make a couple of videos in the week! :) Today had been a most welcome day of calm, peace and normality on the homefront.. BLISS!! :)

  • ..has been..

  • Glad you are still modelling away on various planes, and there is always room for a Finnish pun, Suomeni to be made. Great to hear the homelife is good for once :D

I broke the wings on my F4F and consider this to be an end to that project. Video coming tonight. I hope my guillows will fly much better ;)

  • That's a shame.. about the broken wings!! Put it down to experience... :) Looking forward to the video, will watch as soon as I can, which most likely means tomorrow.. :)

  • Well that was easy. ;)

    Cool.
