  • Best bass cover I have seen. You have clearly listened carefully to what is being played.

  • haha you born the exact same year as my Dad! I just learned this song on bass, love itt :)

  • I enjoy watching this and your "this charming man" video all the time. So awesome. I don't play bass, but I always listen for it when I listen to music. You're lovely!

  • oh man you're awesome...i hope someday play the bass like you-......so amazing!!!!!

  • tab please pleaseeeeeee!!!

  • whats the key of the song? My guess is B but cud be wrong.

  • anyone trying to figure out the bit with chords its just roots and seventh intervals. I could whip up some tabs if anyone requests them

  • @slimone87 requesting tabs please sir!

  • this is amazing. . its so hard to play anything by the smiths. . my favourite band though.

  • Excellent playing!

I'm having difficulty getting the bit with chords though. I'm fairly good at doing stuff by ear so I'm slowly figuring it out.

If I manage to finish working out what they are I'll reply to this comment with what I think the tabs are for the chord bit.

  • very good work!

  • The Smiths played on a Steinberger.

I am a bass player and always been fascinated by the Steinberger ever since i saw Sting & JJ Burnell playing one. Would love to try one.

  • Otimo parabens, AvelarBrasil

  • You make it look so effortless! I was getting my fingers in a twist learning this one, more practice I guess,

Is this the official bassline, or did you pick it up by ear? You're excellent

  • What kind of strings do you use?

  • rotosound roundwounds mostly.

    .105 E

  • One of rourkes best bass lines in this song. Good job!

  • wern't most of the basslines created by marr?

  • Really? I thought Andy Rourke sewed morrissey cause he didnt get enough cred for his basswork (I assume that he actually wrote his own parts)

Perhaps he and marr collaborated, i dunno

  • by the beard of zeus! wheres the head stock?!

  • It's a Steinberger L2. Very rare high end bass made in the 80s. It's all graphite construction makes for a very round "synthetic'' sort of sound. At least to my ears.

  • What the hell? No way...Have WMG muted this video???? :O

  • hey man very nice playing and i love this songs bass part :). i pretty much have it down but the only part i have trouble in is @ 0:41 - 0:43. can't hear exactly what to play there. tips appreciated.

  • what's a good bass for a beginner?.....

try to get a fender jazz made in mexico or japan. the quality on those basses has improved over the years. something used is a good bet. spend 500-900 bucks. you dont want to spend too much just in case you decide its not for you.

    cheers

  • Hey agian dude!

Im starting to get good at bass and im already thinking about getting a better bass.

Is the steinberger a good bass? I like the concept of it.

  • yes i like the steinberger. i've owned this bass since 1986 or so.

  • Awesome, I cant find one in a shop to play though! Oh well, I might still get one.
