I personally like Gordon better. Cheif is also cool but he was trained and biologically engineered to fight, while gordon was just a physicist but still managed to survive and annihilate 2 threats, both of which were just as or even more powerful than the covenant. Plus, cheif had an entire army on his side and defeated the covenant, while gordon lead only a small resistance, and defeated the combine. One more thing, Cheif's trademark weapon is an assault rifle, Gordon's is a CROWBAR

BUT by the books - he stands no chance. He's the better protagonist of course, he's probably the best in all of gaming but he stands no chance against the Chief.
And judging by the games the combine is strong but the covenant can field far better units and planet-destroyer weaponry.
G-man, with powers to teleport and possible immortality, works for unknown superiors. He did as he was told. Freeman is tasked with rebelling against him.
On the contrary, the books are below the game, which is what the series is. The game says Chief will die by falling from a cliff and being melee attacked. If Half Life had a book, it'd say some ridiculous things about making the character OP as well.

And if Half-Life had a book - Gordon would not be OP, because he's a normal human and if they make him OP they will lose the bond with the reader. And if the plot says Gordon gets aids and dies he will. And chief can't fall from a cliff and die. He fell from space and survived. The cliff deaths are made to restrict the player.

Chief virtually defeated an ancient threat and a conquering space alien civilization, yes.
Freeman faced of against beings from another dimension, which traveled through more dimensions and enslaving them. And a man who has the ability to teleport, stop time, and apparent immortality.And that man works for unknown superiors. Freeman has MUCH more on the line and is more than capable of facing of against a super soldier.

But given those weapons and a helmet, Gordon stands a chance. We can't predict what exactly would happen.

They would try to make an epic book. And the main series is written by Eric Nywund(Fall of reach, The Flood, First strike, Ghosts of Onyx) and they have the most action. The other action novel is The Cole Protocol. Primordium and Cryptum are about the forerunners and Glasslands is after the war, so we use Nywund.

We can just for example use the first book. Even though he wears outdated mk IV armor and then the newer(but still outdated) MK V armor. The MK VI is much better but even with the IV or V, he could defeat Gordon. We don't have any books of him with the Mk VI, we only have some numbers of how it's slightly better than the V.
@jimcoolfilms The main reason it was actually built was because it had biofoam injectors which made medi-packs useless. He can heal himself very fast now. IT also improves the link between the Spartan and the AI, making him slightly faster and stronger than before but that's mostly it.
We know the MK VII exists as of 2553, but we don't know it's capabilities except it has a more powerful plasma drive and it can exit slipspace without a HEV pod and it can enter atmosphere safely.

You'll see that no weapon has a dangerous affect on Spartans, for example, A mac blaster couldn't destroy them, a rocket was simply used against their own opponent. BUT by the books - he stands no chance. He's the better protagonist of course, he's probably the best in all of gaming but he stands no chance against the Chief.
And judging by the games the combine is strong but the covenant can field far better units and planet-destroyer weaponry.

And if Half-Life had a book - Gordon would not be OP, because he's a normal human and if they make him OP they will lose the bond with the reader. And if the plot says Gordon gets aids and dies he will. And chief can't fall from a cliff and die. He fell from space and survived. The cliff deaths are made to restrict the player.

He can breach rooms killing over 6 people with headshots by himself. They didn't even got time to react. He can run with up to 150 kph and he's not that bigger than the average human. Gordon will have trouble getting a good shot.
But given those weapons and a helmet, Gordon stands a chance. We can't predict what exactly would happen.

They would try to make an epic book. And the main series is written by Eric Nywund(Fall of reach, The Flood, First strike, Ghosts of Onyx) and they have the most action. The other action novel is The Cole Protocol. Primordium and Cryptum are about the forerunners and Glasslands is after the war, so we use Nywund.

@jimcoolfilms He's always 2 meters 8 centimeters high and the armor always makes him 10 centimeters higher. Also Nywund is the only one who wrote about him. We can just for example use the first book. Even though he wears outdated mk IV armor and then the newer(but still outdated) MK V armor. The MK VI is much better but even with the IV or V, he could defeat Gordon. We don't have any books of him with the Mk VI, we only have some numbers of how it's slightly better than the V.

@jimcoolfilms The main reason it was actually built was because it had biofoam injectors which made medi-packs useless. He can heal himself very fast now. IT also improves the link between the Spartan and the AI, making him slightly faster and stronger than before but that's mostly it.
We know the MK VII exists as of 2553, but we don't know it's capabilities except it has a more powerful plasma drive and it can exit slipspace without a HEV pod and it can enter atmosphere safely.

You'll see that no weapon has a dangerous affect on Spartans, for example, A mac blaster couldn't destroy them, a rocket was simply used against their own opponent. Not to mention chief has seen all tricks and weapons, the dude had to extinct and ancient zombie infestation and he had to brake up a covenant that almost whipped out life. Don't get me wrong, it's a good fight but Chief sees all in the end.
