I was here when they filmed this in the audience! - It was in dewsbury, west yorks, November 1977. It was a tiny club and Mike Mansfield from Supersonic filmed it. i went and you got a voucher to buy a ticket for the Sex pistols gig which took place on Christmas Day in Huddersfield...best Christmas ever!
I didn't know that music was an Olympic sport chin...The Rich Kids were not a punk band anyway. They weren't bad but not top of my list. Glen Matlock got his wish to be in a pop band I suppose. Midge and the drummer (Rusty Egan?) went on to more succesful things in the New Romantic era.
Rusty Egan talked on 'This is your life' about the Rich kids being a punk band (when Ure was on it). So they plainly considered themselves a punk band. They used to play the Vortex as well, a punk only venue.
But so what, you like em or you dont, thats the whole point of music I spose.
No you didn't ruin anything. He grew a ponytail in 84 but there was already a bald spot appearing. It was a bit of a shock to find him totally bald last year, oh well... no one's perfect :)
Did you go to see them play last week? They supposedly sounded really good, even with Gary Kemp on guitar, but after watching the awful shambles that was the recent X-ray spex gig I've been put off of going to see the 'reformed for one gig' old bands that are doing the rounds. The reviews I've read said they were good, I wish I had gone now, hair or not!
I did indeed go last week, it was my birthday and a real treat. True it was a bit unrehearsed but when Rusty remembered how to start a couple of songs and the guitars were tuned it was definitely one of the best gigs I've been to in a while. Not because they were perfect, but because they were enjoying themselves and regressing 30 years. Gary Kemp was fine, really surprised me, not only playing guitar but singing along too so he gets some kudos! And there was plenty of bald blokes around :)
Call it entertainment. They were extremely professional, unlike the Professionals who weren't .

not representative of 1978, and this had very little impact at the time...it's too fake and contrived. Poor in '78, and no better today.

Its amazing to look at Midge Ures hair and realise that in less that five years he would be bald, still it happens to the best of us.
dortyhoor 3 years ago
@dortyhoor It took a lot longer than 5 years for him to go bald but unlike Samson Midge's strength is not in his hair!

A very young Midge Ure, but also a very relieved Glen Matlock !
