It seems what the problem with modern music is that it is a mixture of remembered older forms that are just filled in by modern ideas of what it was. Or perhaps adding something modern to the older forms.
I agree there is somethong missing in modern Irish music, perhaps in other places as well. Not sure what it is, perhaps the freshness has disappeared. Good folk and trad music used to be so fresh and new and exciting; Bothy band Martin Carthy Pentangle Planxty Sweeneys men not to mention the "good" musicians before my time. Most of the music I have heard is plain boring no matter how fast and proficent the musicians are. Maybe I've been spoiled by excellence!
@fiddlinvet Could not agree more ..many have all the tools but use them badly..ideas of melody/tune are lost . P O'Loughlin was one of the best flute players in Ireland and he had a great sense of melody .
Oh dear oh dear. There speaks total ignorance of Irish trad dance music. Go back to your rock and Irish folk music and stop talking about Irish dance music until you learn a bit about it. The music has *de*volved not evolved. It's just bland pop crud churned out by "celtic" bands and ignorant teens. Start with Coleman and work towards the present and watch each generation loose something from the music.
Thats great playing, ill try and get your video up on my tin whistle site.... whistleaway . com . If any of you whistlers out there have a blog or website, id love if you could tell evryone about my tin whistle site.
