Shout out to D'Angelo being out of the USA and rocking the LAKERS jersey that's wassup! Ol Skool Kobe #8 Oh and you know you're in in the presence of a Prince fan when you see anything that says NPG on it! Rock On. LOL
Voodoo is one of my ALL TIME favorite albums in my collection. TRULY a Masterpiece can't believe I've been playing it all these years and it still sounds like the 1st time whenever I play it. CAN NOT wait for the next album from D'Angelo and The Soulquarians. Gotta love PHILLY SOUL from every era.
Dude just felt that shit too deep, and the demons draped him up for a bit. But remember, he was still pretty young offa dat album. He's back doing the damn thing, so either these current bitchass RnB fuckboys get their weight up or kick stones.
SIMPLY PUT THIS DUDE IS A GENUIS....COME ON HE HAD CLAPTON HEAD BOBBIN, GAVE CHRIS ROCK THE STINK FACE AND HAD RICK RUBIN STATING "THATS THE SHIT". NAME ME ONE ARTIST NOW WHO CAN PROVOKE THAT RESPONSE.
I AM SOOO HAPPY I GOT TO SEE THIS, THIS IS TRUELY THE RAW FOOTAGE OF THE NEO-SOUL KING MR. D'ANGELO. I MISS HIM SOOO MUCH, I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE ''JAMES RIVER'' ALBUM. WHEN HE HAS HIS COMEBACK, HE IS GOING TO BE BIGGER THAN LIFE. WHEN HE DROPS THE ''JAMES RIVER'' ALBUM IT GOING TO HIT DOUBLE PLATUM, PROBRABLY DIAMOND. COME BACK SOON D'ANGELO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this guy s a genius..but very conflicted..i couldnt imagine you growing up in that religious of a household and having to rely on sex to sell your music..thats gotta be crazy mental fkk
D'Angelo is gift 4rm God. I hope he can bless us with another album. I thnk he know how much his music affects our lives. I pray that we can get an album in 2010 because the world needs it.
ugh! he's so fucking amazing! ive been a fan since day one, brown sugar days! and i knew he was a genius the w his perfection then, you can hear it and IN EVERY SONG! ppl recognize when attention is paid to detail and when muthafukas (like the "artists" of today) bs shit.
it's recording engineer & record producer Russell Elevado.
He's the reason why Voodoo sounds so great (he only uses analog gear and he must have great ears too!) and he's worked with Badu,Common,The Roots,Nikka Costa,Keziah Jones,Zap Mama...and also Al Green,Roberta Flack...
Best R&B/Soul album of the decade. A true masterpiece. Artists 20 years from now will be looking back to study Voodoo's greatness because it was ahead of our time.
Personally...I think he's a legend. He's such a perfectionist...he obsesses with his own music to the degree of delaying its release for years. He promised an album two years ago...and he's still delaying it because he can't let it go further tweaking it...
Its so cool to see a man behind the genius. I have never seen this before and Im glad I did. Don't rush the flow with "james river" let it be as great as you want it D! I'll wait forever (Ive already waited 9 yrs!!)
On March 1, 2000, Voodoo was certified platinum in sales by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), following sales in excess of over one million
I dont think D'angelo even realizes how much he is loved today purely for his music. He can take a shit on any r&b artist today eg. ChrisBrown, Usher even john legend! any of them because this guy has depth! He knows real music and he feels it! I could listen to this albulm everyday of my life but these guys today you listen to it a few times and throw it away because they are NOT REAL!!!!
so is D'Angelo in Ocha? (Santeria?) I see him with his elekes on and speaking to the santera about the orishas...had he already been in the religion or was he just learning at that time in Cuba? seems like he's "in tune" you know?
when i first heard D'Angelo's music it released me. the first song i ever heard from him was "Playa Playa" and it just released me. it is still my favorite song from him til this day!
June 24, "The Best So Far" has some old, a few new songs on it and is a preliminary to his new album "James River", or whatever his goin' to name it......
Russell Elevado (sound engineer) about the new album (he turned D to Hendrix who realized his heroes (Prince, Sly, Parliament) were all influenced by Hendrix) : it will be a different album than voodoo, that much is definite. to me it's leaning more in a rock direction. like funkadelic meets the beatles or something. he hasn't given up his soul roots by any means, but he is growing and exploring a new genre. he's writing quite a bit of music on guitar rather than the keyboard this time as well.
I pray James River will have the effort, passion and soulfulness of Voodoo. I've listened to Voodoo more times than any other record - and I'm still receiving new vibes from it. It will be hard to come close to its predecessor but if the soul is to the bone, the creativity will shine through.
this is one of my favorite albums. I brought the EP essential cut on wax. I wanted to spin Spanish joint. Before you could just load it up in serato. Had to have the wax.
There won't be another album like this for a very long time.
Even D himself will find it difficult to surpass the ingenuity he had on Voodoo.
To me, really, Voodoo is the very definition of music itself. And it should be no less considered on par with great soul/funk legends of 60's and 70's.
Thank you
