I have a 2009 SX4, AWD automatic and it gets me everywhere in Massachusetts. I also get 35 - 40 mpg in 2wd on the hiway. You'll never see a Subaru get that kind of mileage.
Good movie, thanks. Any chance it could get translated to English?
@rootssixtysix Well, the SX4 is fantastic... But I can't translate this video, 'cos I'm chilean (I speak spanish and my english isn't fine) and I don't understand anything about japanese videos xD.
It an absolutely amazing little car. Its so heavy and the suspension components properly balanced so all pavement changes are corrected real time with no after bounce. The brakes are fantastic and the passing gear will keep you snug in behind any fast car. The commandable 4WD is awesome. Equip it with snow tires and it could go anywhere really. It is a pleasure driving this car in the snow on ice in the summer whatever.
@Monticola22 no cause i live in a place where ther is winter and subaru has the best system on snow and it's way better then a front wheel drive with 20 % going to rear when ever it want's ....i had a wrx last winter and hell it was fun !
The Subaru AWD system is a 70F / 30R split. The only difference between the subaru and the suzuki is that the subaru's system is constant while the suzuki's will only engage when slippage occurs.
I am currently working on a way to lock the Suzuki's permanently which wil give a 70/30 split due to the same gear ratios being involved in a subaru.
My wife bought an '08, we live in Maine, I put on General Altimax, Artic tires, the stock tires were crap in the snow, it is a GREAT car in snow, it goes like a goat up hills, LOVE IT
oh no kidding? i live in maine as well, new gloucester, 20 min. north of portland. im snagging an 09 for 17600, going to be amazing. going to do major autocross with it. glad to hear that its great in a maine winter!
The iAWD, ESP and low center of gravity make it with good wintertires very stable and easy to drive even on snow and ice. The Auto setting is for moderate circumstances ideal, the LOCK modus for harsher environment with at least 30% torque going to the rear wheels.
ESP too is switchable on/off.
I just wish you could switch both ESP off and LOCK on faster, but it is fine the way it is 99,9% of time. A bit a shorter first or especially a super short first would have been supreme. Still excellent

@rootssixtysix my 2007 sx4 gets 18mpg in the cigty and 24mpg in the highway. My friend sx4 gets even worst. May be 2009 sx4 has better mileage!

Nice vid its really neat to see how the awd options work.
Front wheel drive mode you see the car struggle to take off
Auto mode you see a slight hiccup but then the awd kicks in no problem
Awd lock the car takes off as if it were on dry pavement to start...very cool

subaru could learn a lesson about making their cars awd like this to save some gas when 95% of the time you don't need awd

Great Car to drive in the snowy Alps on half-cleared forest roads :)
Only the torque of the Diesel could come a bit faster..
