  • Thanks GTA for showing me this gem

  • Carreras is just incredible here!

Carreras is just

  • Gta 3 classic songs

  • Einfach GENIAL!

  • This is the BEST Lucia DVD version. Both Jose and Katia are terrific here.

  • This is it. It does not get any better than this.

  • Great. Do you have the full recording and could you post Leo Nuccis singing Enrico's arias? It's the first time I see him singing this role and love it!

  • that is sheer perfection, Jose sings incredibly here:-)

  • e' bellissimo

  • this note is in D major

  • @bunnyz324 no, the note is in C sharp

  • molto bello, bravo!!!

  • Just wonderful! :-)

  • @ClassicOperaGirl100 I must agree with both of your comments. Beautifully exquistive~Thank you for the share, sweet friend : )

  • awesome

  • Ricciarelli is one of the best Lucia

  • Awesome! A musical treasure of a masterwork.

  • Estupendo!!! la mejor version !! Gracias por subirla !! Thanks !!! Merci!!

  • Perhaps the most beautiful high note I've heard by Ms. Ricciarelli!

  • Bravoo!!! bravisiimoooooo!!!

  • BRAVI !!!

    Tutti bravi !.....

    LEO NUCCI: STRAORDINARIO!

  • i dont think it's chi mi frena

    i think it's T'allontana, sciagurato

  • OMG!!! I'd rather hear Carreas BREAK WIND as hear some of the premier tenors of the day SING ON THEIR BEST DAY!!! SERIOUSLY! Good technique is better than all the junk we hear from the flash -in-the-pan crap of the modern singers! Where are the tecnicians these days?? Never have cared for AN"Y of the Russian-trained "singers"! Sound like floppy hens!!!

  • russian opera singers r everywhere

  • @candacekanecook liike netrebko? lol >.>

  • very nice! Thanks for posting. Great performance.

  • Carreras was unmatched in his prime..What an incredible instrument.

  • @donatello1

    You got that right!

  • This is stupendous! I have this DVD on order and cannot wait until it comes.

    Bravo to all the sextet!

  • How very fine! An excellent performance of an ultra-famous piece of music. The emotional intensity and the splendor of the singing are exceptional.

  • Fantastic! I like them hearing very much!

  • I love to see Jose Carreras and Katja Ricciarelli perform together...

  • Carreras is stunningly good here

  • très belle production,

    merci

  • Magnificent!

I don't know if it could be played again with this kind of magnificence by different performers.

  • Ricciarelli es Do agudo!!!!

  • Thank you so much for the tip. Hope you get the DVD... I'll try to get it myself. Greetings!

  • Miss Ricciarelli sings a high Db at the end...NOT a high E. Get it right people!

  • What a beautiful production. Look at those clothes. This is one of the very few times I hear Signora Ricciarelli reaching a high E, lovely! Does anybody know what production this is? Was it Milan?

  • very, very good.!!!Congratulations.

  • Stupendo!!!!!!!!!!!!....almost as goog as the Kraus-Sutherland version

  • Very good quality but my favorite recording will always be Micro-Phonies.

Gracias queridos amigos!!!!

  • ehh...why?

  • Well let's see. Judging by this version, it lasts for 3 minutes 41 seconds, so maybe we can guess! 8=0]

  • I never heard Carreras sing this part live. I did hear Pavarotti early in his career - he wasn't fat yet. Shicoff was the better as I remember.

I have almost every commercial recording of Lucia ever made. To my ear Carreras was the best Edgardo ever. Its hard to deny Di Stefano in the final scene with his incredible filatura. And Domingo has the richest most plagent voice but he lacked the poetry and expressivity of Carreras.

  • Would that Pavarotti Lucia have been one of the 1972 San Francisco performances with Sills?

  • I think this was addressed to me and my comment on hearing Pavarotti in this role early in his career.

No. It was in 1968 with Margareta Rinaldi. I was not in SF in 1972.

Big P went on ill. Adler made him. He lost it momentarily in the last act but otherwise was fine.

This was always a good role for P but he was never a match for the young Carreras (IMHO).

  • Oh, I see, thank you.

There is an audience recording of one of those performances and he sounds rather awful if I remember correctly. He must have had the same illness that ruined his second Met performance.

I agree that Carreras is a splendid Edgardo, there are some NYCO recordings of him doing it in the very early '70s and they are stunning. I'd say he was the best Edgardo were it not for Pavarotti's 1970 Met recording, 1972 SF recording and one or two others (IMO, of course).

  • I think it was very good.

  • Certainly ricciarelli is not one coloratura, but the phrasing, him, is the one of a belcantiste authentic. Thus seen under this angle, this version is completely honorable.

  • ricciarelli, luv her but she struggled

  • putz

  • Another soprano drowned by the orchestra, very much like Devia. Carrera is very good.

  • I find this to be a terribly unsubtle rendition; sort of "everything you can sing, I can sing louder."

  • This is like the Lucia sextet from Lucia sextet heaven! Thank you, Gabba, thank you times a million! I've been looking for a clip of this specific cast for a long time, obviously not hard enough!!! Thank you again!

  • @iAMturandot all sing great, such sense of music!

  • can't do better than jose carreras!

  • oh, so beautiful..
