This is just about my favorite song from Damn Yankess and Shafer has such a great voice!! Anaheim H.S. did this play in 1964-1965 and I fell in love with it then. Of course, Tab wasn't hard to look at either in the film!
My school is doing a version of this musical and I play in the pit orchestra. This has got to be one of my favorite songs and not necessarily due to the fact that I have a clarinet solo. :P
I Watched This (movie) 14 Times (in 7 days) In Los Angeles, On The (KHJ) "Million-Dollor-Movie" It Was The Summer Of 1964, Both Parents Worked And Had The Entire Summer To My-Self..Oh Yea, And a "SELF-Centered Sister" Who Was Such A PAIN-IN-The -NECK!!! But, See Was A TV Addict..Which Served Me Well. I FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS MOVIE!!! I Hated Musicals And I Never Even Paid Attention To The Singing..But Now At 56 Yrs. Old I LOVE It and Remember Every Line!!! Life Is STRANGE & SHORT!
I loved this film when i was young. i loved the scene where hes talking to ray walston and his wife says - 'talking to yourself joe? thats a sign of old age ya know...' but watching this now it makes a much bigger impact when he gets his youth back... didnt hit me the same when i was a kid :)
I saw this as a child when I ate, drank and slepted baseball. It was particularly impactful seeing this as I was also a Washington Senator fan. I'm thankful that you posted the songs. They are timeless melodies and words and bring back memories for me.
i think this is probably one of the most important numbers of this show. and i agree it is WAY over looked. ive seen productions of this show were this song is kinda shoved to the side. when this is done RIGHT (to me) it helps set up a way better understanding of joe's good nature and love for his wife.
so amazing im glad we are doing this for our highschool performance

I love this song (and the play). The 1994 version of it was better, though (in my opinion).

Less of a profound comment here, but Tab Hunter is (was) gorgeous.

Does the melodic/text remind any of you of "Joey Joey" from Most Happy Fella?
Here: "Joe has to go"
There: "Time to go. Joey, Joey, Joe."
Food for thought.

Thanks for posting this video - one of my favorite Broadway love ballads. It gets overlooked because of the flashier numbers from this great show.

I was distracted doodling when I was listening to this song, so I was just as amazed as the guy when I saw Mr.A turned him young.

Only 600 views for a poignant, sentimental view of lovers parting. I gave it a universe of stars. Thanks so much for posting.
