Is there anything out there to really keep the tap perpendicular to the part, other than hoping your hands do the correct job? I was thinking of something like a drill press, but for taps.
@Amopower People do use a drill press but not under power. You put the tap in the chuck and turn it by hand to get it started. Once it gets a good bite yo go back to the handle.
You really can get the tap run in straight with the handle with some practice. The nose of the taps tries to "steer" it straight so between that and you getting the hang of it the tap goes in straight.
