Left foot- Up down Up down, in time with the song, (up on 1 and 3, down on 2 and 4). With the right hand, you hit a quarter note on the one while the hats are open then you hit the next hi hat hit on beat 2, right as the hats close. You also do the syncopated hit with the hats closed, but as you do that his, you begin to open the hats for the open hit on beat 3... if that makes sense
I have always hated playing those straight eight parts on set.
