For me, this is what diving is all about. I'd far prefer to see some "basics", executed so well, than to see a 109 finishing a mm above the water, with no drop on the finish, no stretch, and no line!!!!!!
And to think.... we will never see BASIC dives in Olympic competition ever again. This - I believe - is very sad. It really sucked when they didn't show basic diving in last year's Olympics.
Because of TV ratings, of course. Besides the case, people want to see the flash and the hard stuff rather than the base of the basics. I think this is retarded. I recorded ALL of the Olympic diving back in 2004 (when I was in my prime diving, now I don't anymore) and I took the basic dives into stride. Ever since around 2006 or so, they took off basic diving because it was just a waste of energy.
asians are good divers because there exist more millions...and every 5th on the world is an asian...that there are some good of everything is no wonder
they have a guided freefall into a partially submerged but air tight part of the pool. when the diver begins his/her dive the camera is dropped and because both things fall at 9.8m/s^2 the camera is able to follow the diver quite easily
the girl did not do arm circle on her 403c (inward 1 and a half) off of 10M because you dont do armswings on inwards on tower. you don't do armswings on fronts on tower either.
vol competition is kinda pointless at this level. thats why ncaa DI has pretty much abolished it from every major event except for a few invites where the schools decide they want to do it.
The form you have determines the score you get, not how hard the dive is. Each dive has a "Degree of Difficulty" which is then multiplied by the sum of the scores you received for the form to get the final score for the dive.
Former diver here (retired after 21 years!)- thank you for putting these great videos together- they bring back a lot of beautiful memories and make me proud to be a diver. That efforetless beauty of a perfect dive.. nothing like it in the world!
i know what you mean... i've been diving for 2 years now and i've always known it as a reverse... but last summer i went to a pool and fucked around and everyone kept saying "Holy shit! how'd you do a double gainer?" it confused the hell outta me at first
touching your toes (straight legs) we call "to pike" indicated by a "B" at the end of a dives no. e.g. 201B, the one you're asking for - that is a "back dive pike"

Thx for awesome vid and great music. I coach high school and get really tired of parents saying..."why are they throwing these "easy" dives instead of going for the higher dd's." Control is much more impressive then blindly throwing things before you are ready.
nah people will still compete them as ops but a higher tariff list will be adopted. dives such as 201b and 301b will still be competed because they look amazing and are easy to rip to 10s
5 dives out of 11 have a DD (degree of difficulty) limit. This means they are the 'easy' dives in a divers list. Unfortunately I think this art will be lost!
