@that70switch well the mtv movie awards really has no credibility considering its filled with per-pubescent teenagers that don't really understand film
i wish they had an imax (they sorta allready have one but they only show documentaries)where i live in sweden and had reruns of this movie every month :(
What sucks is that X-Men First Class had a scene similar to this in the movie. Emma Frost and Charles Xavier were going to have a mental battle. However, due to it bearing similarity to this film the fight scene was cut altogether.
My question is if there were ever an Inception sequel (and I pray to God there ISN'T), how exactly would you go about topping something like this, where influence from the subconscious above effects the one below?
Just... incredible. When I saw this in theaters, I thought, "CGI, how else did they do it?" When I found out later they literally SPUN a hallway with Levitt still as Arthur.... Best Special Effects well deserved.
Just... incredible. When I saw this in theaters, I thought, "CGI, how else did they do it?" When I found out later they literally SPUN a hallway with Levitt still as Arthur.... Best Special Effects well deserved.
The fight in the hallway is amazing, though I wish the rest of Yusuf's simultaneous fight were cut as well. The scene from 0:49 to 1:00 is especially confusing.
@huzaifah123 Try again. If you watch the behind the scenes documentary in the making of this scene they actually constructed a massive rotating hallway and the rest was Choreographed within the rotating set piece. In fact, Joseph Gordon Levitt even did his own stunts on this scene. No stunt man, no CGI.
@DrewJaye I don't think it's the best fight scene. Have you seen Jackie Chan. Also, why do you mention it didn't rely on special effects or cgi? What fight scenes have relied on special effects or cgi?
@huzaifah123 A best fight scene isn't just about knowing how to fight, in this scene, what made it special apart from the fact that there's no blue/green screen or special effect, is the fact that the fight took place in a dream, what made it more intriguing was how layer 1 dream affected layer 2, thus, causing the rotating hallway effect, a best fight scene isn't just about fighting skills, it needs a unique setting to support it, and a great plot, which is why this was a nominee for best fight
@huzaifah123 Seriously? What fight scenes have relied on special effects or CGI??!! How about The Matrix, X-Men, Spider man, any other superhero movie recently! To go with your "analogy" regarding martial arts films, there's Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Kung Fu Hustle...
I think you have a narrow (albeit "purist") definition of what constitutes a "fight" scene. At the very least, most fight scenes are usually altered with slow-motion. Inception's fight scene ALL takes place in REAL TIME.
@tfpp1 Not only that, there was absolutely NO CGI in this scene. Period. They actually created a huge rotating hallway, so JGL (who did all of the stunts in this scene) and the guy he's fighting had to literally jump from wall to wall and floor to ceiling and try to make the fighting look realistic. No easy feat. I think that @huzaifah is being huffy over nothing.
The film technique of using a room built on a rotating gimble was first used 91 years ago in a movie starring Douglas Fairbanks. It was director Victor Fleming's first feature film. And guess what: the technique was used in a dream sequence! The movie was called "As the Clouds Roll By" and it was made in 1919...ten years before movies had SOUND. Nolan cleverly used an old technique and made it work beautifully.
@CruuushaL You obviously have no idea how much work went into creating this one scene but if you look it up you will see it IS quite amazingly executed ;)
@ROFLSoldiers This scene was extremely complex. What I thought was amazing was when Joseph Gordon-Levitt chose to do the scene himself and not rely on a stunt man.
I can only imagine how bizarre this would be to experience, even if it were just filming a movie. It seems so normal from our perspective, because the hallway isn't rotating. However, to the actors, as soon as it starts to tilt, the effects are immediately noticeable. This is especially visible as Levitt runs down the hall, just before he attacks the stuntman. For a second, he's running at a slanted angle, something that's not possible without the effects of the tilt.
i'm still pissed that this movie didn't win movie of the year or whatever and that THE KING"S SPEECH won instead. Man that movie looks boring as hell and it still won. Just shows how blind these critics are
This deserved the "Best Fight" award instead of that fake ass cgi shit that fuckin twilight movie did. This just proves that fucked up crazed "twilight fan girls stay up all night voting for the piece of crap movies. MTV is just for people who dont have no taste in movies> They dont look for quality good movies they only look for stupid ass movies with shirtless dudes in it. Man our generation sucks ass
Actually, there is this sort of "sychronicity" all over the movie. Nolan said so himself that he wanted to do that a certain moments. But actually, if you go back and watch it, it's all over the place, really. Check out the pacing and buildup once limbo is entered between cuts and set pieces; watch the kick scene at the end. It's just sick how cool the music sync's up with certain moments. *sigh* just...great film making.
The van hitting the ground is also "musical" and "in tempo". Then, in the hotel room, the first "punch" is in tempo, halfway through the "key change" Nolan cuts to the van for a beat (again, in "tempo"). When Arthur smacks the phone against the dude's head. And we hear the papers rustling and falling when they climb on the bed yet again when the music changes keys back. It just sheer Brilliance. I believe it's this attention to detail that the score amplifies.
1) It all starts when the van beings to roll (musical "hit" after silence). 2) the moment Arthur' hands touch the floor when he's "sideways". 3) When he throws the black dude against the wall. 4) When the black guy "falls" to the ceiling. 5) When Arthur hops to the other side of the hallway. All these moments correspond to a musical "downbeat" if you will, each aspect reinforcing the other. and this is just in this hallway segment...(more)
I would like to call attention to the awesomeness of the editing in conjunction with the musical score. Anyone notice the "points of synchronicity" that add epicness to the scene? rising scale in the strings in punctuated not only by the percussion and brass, but there are moments when the sound design matches it perfectly. For instance:
Wow, the trolls were right, this movie is meme ready, shallow, and appealing to the intellectual vanity of an anti-intellectual country. Stolen from the Matrix, Jacob's Ladder, and Dreamscape.
Twilight fags are gay, they dont deserve one reward, inception deserves it all, best fight or a bunch of jumping when u got a rotating fight all over, fuck that. this is way better
Anyone know why when Arthur punches the black guy at 1:54 it sounds like a girl moaning??? It's a bit high-pitched for all the testosterone-filled manliness that is otherwise busy kicking ass in this scene...
The King's Speech was a good movie, but this scene made Inception far more iconic and will be remembered for years to come. Decades from now people will continue to debate about the mysterious ending that made this film an instant masterpiece. Inception deserves the Best Picture, Best Director and Best Score Oscar rather than The King's Speech.
Such an incredible scene. It is that one shot in particular where they fight on three different planes without a cut that makes the scene so much more awesome.
@iknownothing34 It's actually a bonus song called "Don't Think About Elephants". The other bonus song is called "Projections" and I believe that played during the first dream sequence when Saito was the target.
I saw The King's Speech, and while it was certainly a good movie, I don't even understand why Tom Hooper was NOMINATED for Best Director (let alone actually deserved to WIN) over Nolan; what exactly did Hooper do that was so special? more importantly, what was more special than THIS scene? not only is it brilliantly directed, edited, concieved, and choreographed, the music makes the scene pretty much perfect (nothing against The Social Network, but Inception deserved the Best Score Oscar)
i'll be honest, i always thought that this movie wouuld be some overly-complicated action fest that would be retarded, i just finished it and im still jizzing all over the walls
