@ItaloLabignan how large do you think 7 year old stocked specks would be? i guess it would depend alot on the diet but what do you think both extremes would be for their size?

@giiwed A 7yr old brook trout would be very close to the end of it's life-span. The Ontario record brook trout was caught in 1916 from the Nipigon River, ON and was 31 1/2"long, it had a girth of 23", and weighed 14 1/2 lb. . I would say that's at the extreme "large" size. On the small size, probably around 5-7 lb...God bless you, Italo

@ItaloLabignan oh wow thanks italo.......i thought a 7 year old brook trout would be about ten inches ...i was way off!!!!.....well i was wondering cuz i get a lot of brookies from a stocked lake but they are all the same size (9-10 inches give or take a cm or so).....the lake was stocked with fry in 2004 and 2006......i am positive it was stocked before that but i have no record of it...(because 6-7 pounders were taken from the lake about 5 years back)...

@ItaloLabignan my question is do you think the 9-10 inch brookies i catch currently at the lake could have been from the 2006 stock??? or do u think it is more likely that it was stocked another time after that(would have to be after 2009 because that is the last year i have stocking info on the lake,,,,,secondly, where would these larger trout be in the lake?(the lake gets very deep and has a LOT of sucker minnows)...THANKS

@giiwed I think the 9-10" brook trout were last Spring (1 yr ago). The best stocking size for survival is that length. The larger trout should be in the same are the larger ones are, and shallower. It is common to catch pretty big brook trout in water less than 6', where they look for crayfish, minnows and hibernating frogs to eat...God bless you, Italo
