Speaking as an animator and fine artist in his prime, I have to agree with you Goken02 - Alita is not a PG-13 character, and GUNNM is not a PG-13 story. For those who haven't read the manga, Kishiro is fond of using gratuitous violence as a story vehicle.
I really hope that James Cameron's vision can live up to this; I wonder if the live-action GUNNM movie will be as graphic as the graphic novel, and capture all the emotions/character-depth that made the story so captivating.
If their is any filmmaker who can make an live action Battle Angel Alita... its James Cameron.
I doubt that the movie will be watered down to a PG-13 rating as violence is one of the major themes of the manga. As long as he treats the project like Terminator and Aliens, then this movie is guaranteed to blow your balls off.
As nice as this looks - this video is in no way in relation with Cameron's movie. This here was made in Japan years ago as some kind of bonus for battle angel alita. In fact, if Cameron really produces Battle Angel, it will look even greater than Avatar :-).
@Avian98X Aye. if I recall correctly this was made by a fan-based studio, primarily in Shade 3D. By today's standards it doesn't really hold up, but for the time it was released it was awesome!

I see where you're coming from, almost all anime/manga-to-live-action adaptations have been abysmal failures in the sense of looking like the original, and that can be very off-putting; but I would not ever want to see this project in any other hands. I am very confident that if Cameron pursues this, it will be one of the greatest adaptations from any media to live-action ever. He has experience with almost every aspect in Alita, sans the gore(to my knowledge); and I'm sure he'll pull through.
@cdubya70 , Just watch Avatar again...if they used performance capture with cg characters like the na'vi it could work..if they use live actors with cg effects it will not....maybe. Nothing will ever replace the manga and anime...but I really would like to see if I could love a cg gally as much as a cg neytiri...

Cameron hasn't completed the film yet, and the ratings are never certain before a film is completed, and different countries have different ratings ... it is too soon to judge the film.
First of all, a story is a story, and if you don't like it, you don't have to watch it. It's not like it's going to change the original when it comes out. Second, James Cameron is a sicknasty director/producer, and doesn't have a single crappy film on his track-record. Plus, with all of his CGI and live-action-capture experience from Avatar, you could almost say he'd be the best one for the job.

Battle Angel Alita ( it has a couple other names) was a Manga Series, then an Anime ( I think the Anime came out in 1993),.. then the game for Sega Saturn came out. Wasn't a big deal, was released in Japan,.. Saturn not pop in US. Not related to Matrix, Halo, or Unreal ( they didn't exist yet!)

I know it's Battle Angel Alita...I meant, is this a short film ("stand alone project" in the actual sense of the word) or a clip from somethign I don't know about. A TV commercial? A student project? It's not from the battle angel alita anime.

There is supposed to be a movie sometime.. but i don't think it's going to be only CG, like Final Fantasy.. the guy who did Aliens is supposed to have taken up the story for a movie adaptation...
