  • Interesting that she starts the song in a key lower than the original, but goes to the original key in the recit portion and at the reprise at the end. Nice dramatic build and allows her beautiful soprano range to shine. I saw her perform this role and she was wonderful. A worthy successor to Barbara Cook.

  • This was the very first show I ever saw on Broadway! It's so amazing you have this footage!

  • O my GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!! She is freakin amazing......like the one thing that is just so immaculate is that she is just so classical with that role....just the way her mucles in her face are built and she is just so beautiful i can't say one negative comment about this video except the quality which isnt her fault

  • wow she is incredible!

  • Man, if you put Christine Ebersole and rebecca Luker in the same theatre at the same time, they could sing the walls down. What a voice.

  • Rebecca Luker is astounding. She played the part of Christine in The Phantom of the Opera the very first time I ever saw it on Broadway. Sarah Brightman has nothing on her. You should hear her as the original Lucy in the Broadway production of The Secret Garden...unbelievable. She has one of the purest, most beautiful soprano voices in the world.

  • @MegaF3tt Lily in the Secret Garden.

  • I really love this song. I havent been able to find anyone who really sings it right (of course except for Shirley Jones) but this woman is very talented, her voice is beautiful, and her interpretation is almost flawless.

    Thanks for posting

  • @rosielxxrik someone who sings it right? have you listened to the obc with barbara cook?

  • @mysweetsmile23 Yes barbara cook is also very talented. However I prefer this woman. Because it's not just about singing with a beautiful voice, it's interpretation and acting. Her performance is just more believable to me.

  • @rosielxxrik what qualities are you looking for in an interpretation of this song?

  • @malbertmacl @malbertmacl I've seen alot of people sing it. My high school did the play last year, and though she was an amateur, this wonderful girl with a magnificent voice, bursting with just raw talent for performing, sang it and personally I dont think anyone could have sung it better.

  • @rosielxxrik Despite her age, I know she'll one day get discovered. But anyway, its not about having a good voice, its about feeling the song and translating to the audience in a way that takes our breathe away, gives us perspective, if even only for a moment for some, into this young girl's heart.

  • @rosielxxrik My point is, you could have a fantastic voice, but just not be cut out for this song. Alot of the professionals who preform this have a talented voice, yet it just feels rushed, devoid of passion, like they're singing the lyrics yet arent listening to what theyre saying.

  • @rosielxxrik My point is that I first heard this beautiful song not from the movie, not from the original, not from professionals, but from a young, immensely gifted girl, untainted, like a diamond in the rough. She sang with passion, the whole audience was literally captivated by her song.

  • @rosielxxrik It was subtle at parts, dynamics of both sound and emotion implemented, not just a loud woman with a good voice and a better image belching this at the top of her lungs. this is the closest performance to that ive found. Sorry for writing so much. the song just means so much to me personally.

  • @rosielxxrik "belting" at the top of her lungs. not "belching"

  • wow.

  • WOW!!!!! That has to be the most amazing performance I have seen for a very long time! She would do Shirley Jones proud :)

  • She's amazing. She can seriously sing anything.

  • Starting at 1:55 or so I just have goosebumps. Great rendition!

  • I saw the musical in 2001. The interpretation is close to this one. I really like it. Thank you for posting it.

  • What interpretation! The speech-quality sounds just like Marian Paroo, and the second half sounds like her soul! THIS is art.

  • she is divine.

  • i was 7 or 8 when i saw this show..

  • SO GOOD. This in my opinion is one of the hardest songs sung by a female lead in all the Great American Musicals. I love The music man, its one of my favorites. I played Marian Paroo when i was 18, i love her character.
