  • OMG Pino Palladino!!!!!!!!!

  • I love this video, it's like the reverse of the usual band dynamic. The focus is on the bassist, playing the prominent melody. Meanwhile, the guitarist plays like 3 notes.

  • Aw c'mon, it's prett f*cking awful...

  • Bollocks to Paul Young....I'm watching Pino

  • Happy Birthday Paul Young !

  • that dude on bass Kicks Serious Ass

  • must have cost me hundreds putting on jukebox in my 20s now i get it free.how times change

  • this song is in a league all its own with that white boy funk feel , that dude playing crazy divebombs while the miditrack is complimenting every nuance

  • UGH the killes the last part of the song that was pino's solo!!!!!!! UGH

  • @sprintbass what were they thinking ???!!!!!!

  • GOT BASS?

  • Great song, sadly you never hear this song on the 80s and oldies stations yet you still hear "Every Time You Go Away" on the radio all the time

  • @Doobie1975 indeed how could this not be bigger?

  • @MrGlenntipton This song was a respectable charting hit during its release but doesn't seem to get a lot of recognition on the classic stations

  • Pino is god!

    ffs

  • @carbonbodyworker Pino motherfucking Palldino does it all well.

  • @carbonbodyworker

I hate it when people compare Pino to God; I mean he's good, but he aint no Pino...

  • Hate this song, but I've watched/listened about 10 times now because of dat bass. Pino rules.

  • This is PY best video! MAN HE WAS HOT! SUPER VOICE N GOTTA LOVE THAT HAIR!

  • The guitarist can't handle Pino's groove, he can't keep still.

  • Im only 14..and I can't get enoguh of this song :$

  • Paul Young steal songs from black folks, this was Ann Peebles song in 1973 and Where ever I lay my hat is my home, is from Marvin Gaye...The man is not the originator of these songs

  • @Stronglarry73 : Steal? This is called a cover. The writers of these songs are given credit on the disc, and the album jacket. Work in the music field much have you?

  • Killer bass line by Palladino. He is one of the most musical bass players ever!

  • 1 of the best albums of the 80's

  • El mejor álbum de Paul Young gracias al talento de Pino Palladino, uno de los bajistas mas increibles que existe!!!

  • What bass is Palladino playing? It's a sweet sounding fretless, but...?

  • @rio985 I think what you are mostly hearing with Palladino's bass is that he is using an octave pedal or effect.

  • I just love how the camera focuses mainly on pino's playing, he is truly a master on fretless, and plus the guitarist was being a total idiot.

  • wow.

  • He did Ann Peebles justice and then some! Loved Paul's version of this.

  • I was in my early 20s when I saw him in a tiny little concert hall in Strasbourg, France. It was in the early 90's and he rocked that concert like nobody's business. I am still completely under the spell of that long-ago memory and I love listening to his music, day after day....

  • Now I'm older I realise how hansome he was and still is even now.

  • This wasn't his biggest hit, but I loved it best.

  • Paul hit #13 in Billboard, 11-2-85. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a great weekend!

  • Mr Pino Palladino. Top bassist! Inspired a new wave of fretless playing.

  • I loved this album!!!

  • TRUE BLOOD vs TWILIGHT

  • Great song!

  • I've always liked Paul's version of this song, but ya gotta check out Graham Parker's cover on his Stick To Me album. And of course,Ms Ann Peebles surpasses either one.

  • pretty fly bassline for a white guy!

  • I'm sorry, i remember this sounding better as a youth, Recently discovered ms Ann Peebles original version its more soulful and complimentary to a womans voice.

  • One of the heaviest bass lines ever! Suitable for 70's/80's porn!

  • Super genialer Song. Der Bassist .... Hammer... Kein Wunder will den jeder im Studio haben...

  • kickass bass..soulful voice..the fuckin mullet !!!

  • this song is tooooo cool!!! i was barely in high school when this song came out!!!!

  • Awesome Bass line..

  • OMG I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. Paul Young is the best :)

  • where are the girls, why did they leave,

  • Pino had a strong hand in popularizing the fretless in the UK pop scene back then - other good players include Gazza Johnson (China Crisis) and Paul Webb (Talk Talk). I recommend any bassist try the fretless - it's not hard as long as you listen closely to what you're doing.

  • I loved this song in 84..Just to think I had hair like this is so embarrassing..lol!

  • Peeps this is a bass at its very best, strong and thick licks. Very robust. yeah I can dig this jam and nerver get tired of hearing it. play it to the bone.

  • this is for all you muthas who think u r the stuff i got news for you watch your playhouse fall room by room

  • I bought a new car a few years ago. A bright red Pontiac Grand Prix GT with chrome wheels and a badass sound system. The first song I played when I drove off the lot was Playhouse. Loud, bad and cool. The back windows vibrated. My ex used to like George Michael, not anymore. If it ain't great like this song, it ain't on.

  • I bought a new car a few years ago. A bright red Pontiac Grand Prix GT with chrome wheels. But it's sound system was a real badass, so as I drove off the lot the first song I played was Playhouse. Loud, bad, and cool . Nothing like it. My ex used to like George Michael, not anymore, if it doesn't kick ass it ain't on.

  • Referenced in Sam n Max ep 201 "Ice Station Santa" Sweeet!

  • The guitarist is priceless XD, a bit a skinny :o

  • yes everyone should have expirenced the 70's and 80's,best decades ever.....

  • While everyone was learning Jaco basslines in the 80s I was picking Pino's stuff apart. Find "I Was In Chains" of the Secret of Association album. Beautiful.

  • FINALLY due 2 not knowing WHO sung this been SO hard to find

  • Dayam...dude is almost as good as Ann Peebles!!!!

  • PINNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOO! YESSSSSSSSSSS! TALKIN TO MEEEEE!

  • You know, I'm only 18 years old and tho a lot of people say "I wish I lived in the 80's or the 70's" it might be nice of course, but I won't say that, because I would miss other great stuff as well, just for example, the 90's music like Jamiroquai and some great stuff that has been in the last decade, think about it.

  • i still have this 12' single. i havent listened to it in years

  • funny t the movie dream a little dream corey feldman makes a reference to this song mentioning it was from 1986

  • ... where's the keyboards ?

  • slappin da base

  • Comment removed

  • @carbonbodyworker british assclown -- the "slappin da base" is a movie reference... it wasnt meant to be a serious comment on the friggin muscian in the video... you are a moron.

  • Comment removed

  • @carbonbodyworker You sound mad.

  • 2 people think they've got it all set up.

  • excuse me while i get my skates

  • Really good song. I love his gold microphone.

  • what happened to the rest of it

  • the bass player on this should have got most of the royalties

  • @dougiewhite778 That's Pino Palladino. Legend :oD

  • love this song, and Paul Young rocks!! His music is " one and only" !!!! :)

  • Funky Fresh!

  • Idk, I love Ann Peebles' version but I think that this version is just as good... idk, its a different vibe. Anything with Pino Palladino playing is awesome... He also played the Bass part on "Call Me" by 'Go West'. This is a great sounding 80s tune here

  • Pino's an awesome player. He's in the touring band for The Who and John Mayer Trio these days. He got that sound for this song with a Stingray fretless bass and an octave effect pedal.

  • @roentgen571

If you look closer, you'll see that is a Vigier fretless Bass ! Made in France !

  • @mitchonbass in the video, yeah--what you're hearing in the recording is a Stingray.

  • Two words: Pino Palladino

  • god he was one good looking guy....even at my tender age I could imagine snogging his face off lol, I think in this vid if you look at him close he has a bit of elvis about him.....just imagine a elvis type do and there you go

  • that bass is B A D

  • Lovely Mullet LOL

  • DAMN--- I thought the Ann Peoples version was nice but this Doggone bass is giving me chills...

  • He's got that rare kind of voice that will make any song sound good. That says a lot as my idol is the only one that has that quality that I can think of besides him right now.

  • What a great basplayer!! He puts his stamp on every record of Paul Young, great singer too!

    Very good upload Thx.

    Jackster

  • Pino palladino is the best in this song ...

  • PAUL IS INDEED A SOUL AND ROCK MAN!!

  • love this bassline!!!!!!!

  • Holy Bowie rip-off Batman!

  • fantastic bassline by Pino, with a great Octaver sound.

  • Always actually liked this one more than Everytime You Go Away. Wasn't nearly as big a hit, though..........................go figure.

  • the drummer must have come directly to the video set after finishing his work shift-plumber? mechanic? That bloke needs to ask Paul for a raise.

  • What group did this guy start out in? Damned if I can remember. Pino and the band are damn tight.

  • @olddavid4 Streetband, I think?

  • Great stuff ,had forgotten this ,thanks for posting, how could i have forgotten it i ask.

  • Pino Palladino on bass, killer.

  • Listen to that fretless base. He give Mick Karn from Japan a run for his money. :)

  • Hit#13 pop, #60 soul in the US (Billboard). How'd it do in the UK? God bless!

  • fucking class from mr young .

  • WTF...If you dont like this song...Voice and Bass...Damn U Deff.

  • I used 2 always think Paul Young was Paul Mccartney's secret brother. LOL Oh, & by the way I love dat GOLD microphone he was using.

  • looping cool at 1:55

  • was the b side on a 45 i had, i think--it was 25 yrs ago, but i remember it had a hittin bassline. like the little back-up vocal at 2:07--"i know where u are". is mr. young doing an hommage to james brown w/ those moves given that we got some funk goin on?

  • rhythm, melody, feeling... Pino rocks !

  • awesome song, I remember it growing up

  • Too bad this video did not have the ending of the song, where Pino Palladino goes flying with his fretless bass. The director of this video seemed to know the song well, as it has lots of close up shots on the bass. I am not much of a Paul Young fan, but this is my favourite Paul Young song because of Palladino's bass playing. Thanks for the upload.

  • Fall of '85 when released in Atlanta! Love this song.Love the intro!

  • Pino Palladino is the best!!!

  • I'd just like to say, this song is cheesy as fuck... but that bassline! Lord. I listen to this song far more often than I should, and I hate it every time, but... Pino is the man.

  • Wow this brings back memories!

  • MULLETS!!!

  • @free2astroboy Lol!! Cant stop checkin out their hair while Im hummin away to the tune!! <3

  • Great Album!

  • You think you've got it all set up

You think you've got the perfect plan

    To charm everyone you see

And playing any game you can

    You've been playing madly

With every mind in town, oh

What you gonna do when you look up one day

And see your playhouse tumbling down

I'm gonna tear your playhouse down

    Pretty soon

  • @Aaronator19842009 I love this song. I'd forgotten all about it till I looked up PY's discography recently.

  • You make our lives a stress and strain

    Using the power ploy

All you do is pass around

Hearts you use as play toys

    You've been playing madly

    With every mind in town

So what you gonna do when you look up one day

And see your playhouse tumbling down

  • You think you've got it all set up You think you've got the perfect plan To charm everyone you see And playing any game you can But I've got news for you I hope it don't hit you too hard One of these days while you're at play I'm gonna catch you off guard I'm gonna tear your playhouse down Pretty soon I'm gonna tear your playhouse down Room by room, hey
  • you know when people think of fretless jaco comes to mind..but for me it has to be pino palladino...he was on so many albums from don henlys (sunset grill) to his playing with paul young..when everytime you go away came out that sumnmer i took up upright bass and played in orchestra till i got out of hs..its crazy to think at 37 im still playing and when i look back on ppl who inspired me pino was there..les nemes..john taylor.ABC there were lots of great players back then..

  • I still remember Paul Young opening up for Wham, had front row seats and the show was awesome!

  • Paul was BAD... and NOT BAD LOOKING !

  • Best voice I have EVER heard. And I heard it first in 1993. No better singer since that time.

    Up yours all the haters.

  • Agreed, If I were in the hospital I would want to hook up that bass line right to my veins. Man, that bass line will tear the skin off your bones!! Always loved Pino's bass lines. I just glad others appreciate his talent too!

  • getting fretless tommorow!

  • This song has a bassline so sick, it belongs in the critical care unit in the hospital.

  • @funkmike :)

  • Get over it! Paul Young HAS IT.....persona, voice, and physicalness!

  • Utter dogshit. Ann Peebles still owns this song. Graham Parker at least did it justice.

  • I agree,

GP's version is WAY better than this.

Find video of GP's version on my channel.

Paul Young couldn't write a song for his life. Sillything75

  • You have NO idea where talent and PASSION comes from! PY has both!

  • lmao @ fake guitarist @ 1:17

  • wow fantastic song!!! too bad this video didnt play the whole song.

  • i was in love with this man all the way through my teens,my bedroom was covered from floor to ceiling of pic of him, still love all his 80's songs, still play them now xx

  • Ha! I"ve stayed in love with this man! From my 20's and now I'm 57!!!

    Hot! So hot!!!

  • Grande Pino Palladino!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • On the bass Pino Palladino !!!

  • Yeah, this song pretty much sold me on octavers and fretless in one fell swoop.

  • And I just finished a fretless conversion today, so I'm pretty effing happy right now :)

  • just ran in to this super funky...........

  • this is a remake of a song by my friend Ann Peeples of Memphis Tenn. A very good one, I might add.

  • be good if we got to hear the end of it....

  • Now THATS what I call hair!

This song would be dead without the base.

  • Totally feeling that SICK bass. Vocals are hardly shabby either...
