@MaxxTheSlash HAHA! Yeah I remember they used to play this game ALL the time. I think SNK had a promotional deal with the show because they played King of the Monsters a bit too.
As I recall--at the time I liked Alpha Mission II better than this game as far as vertical Neo Geo shooters go.
Square-Enix (Squaresoft at the time) had a deal where ActRaiser was set up to play occasionally too (Professional mode, I think, where just the side-scrolling levels were played). People sucked at that just as bad.
@MaxxTheSlash: If I remember correctly, the contestants on Nick Arcade sucked at all the games 95% of the time. I remember the second season being my only outlet for the beta version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, only to show minimal visuals from kids that sucked at playing it.
@Loader2K1 the two most memorable Nick Arcade fail moments were Melissa Joan Hart who failed at beating a simple "get 25 ring" challenge in the Sonic 2 Beta, and Joe O'Connor (who played Marshall in Clarissa Explains it All)'s failed Super R-Type challenge (he just kept crashing the ship and even ran into some enemies kamikaze style)
@figment1988: Judging from how they played, they obviously weren't real gamers. To be fair on Joe O'Connor's part, the R-Type series is best known for it's unapologetic difficulty. Still, being a massive fan of Sonic 1 at the time, I was PISSED when I saw how bad the contestants failed at Sonic 2 Beta.
Just bought the MVS cart. Its basically a 1942 clone, but a very good one Im looking forward to playing the orignal cart and stop playing It through emulation at last.
dude do you know of or ever heard of anyone beating alpha mission for nes because i swear no1 has beaten it and the game is beyond th hardest game ever made.please if you do, let me know-sean
@mukimukiRS Yeah, well this was the good time of SNK in my eyes, before they started doing all of those fighting games that severely saturated the Neo-Geo.
This was played on Nick Arcade A LOT. Everyone who played it sucked at it.

I miss that show...

It was Enix, (before the merged with Square)
It was a far superior show to Video Power, that's for sure--where all they played was BATTLETOADS!

@cybersalad
You're right, I had a brain fart and forgot about Enix. I'm too used to them being one company.

@Loader2K1 that's true. Super R-Type was infamous in my watch since you had to start from the beginning of the stage when you got killed.

I was wondering if anyone knew the name game i played on a NEO GEO
It was a airplane shooter like this but you could transform and kill things as well

Either Alpha Mission 2, Aero Fighters 2/3 or Strikers 1945+.

the lack of rapid fire hurts this otherwise good shooter

I like any game that pays homage to Toaplan's style of shmup titles.

If there is one thing that is great about this game, it is the sound effects.
Nintega 5 years ago
it is, but SNK at this point were not the biggest innovators around ;)
i remember this game being bloody hard too
mukimukiRS 5 years ago
It is. I was trying to record playing stage 3 just now, I just have to say I freakin' hate when rows of enemies put on a Broadway show!
Toneman 5 years ago
nice bit of play on this stage, though
interesting to see someone else's habits/quirks and compare them to what you would do in the same situation.

BTW is it just me thinking this game is a shameless rip-off of Flying Shark (aka Sky Shark)?
Nintega 5 years ago
You are right. Not sure if it's a rip-off but it sure as hell is the same game!! I played Sky Shark till my hands were numb.

Oh man Nick Arcade memories!
Nintega 5 years ago
i remember too. i think it was one of the few neo-geo games that the contestants would pwn at (as well as being their first choice sometimes)
