  • Nobody assumes that the stooge here is the person himself or herself? In "The Assassin", Derren Brown guesses the subject's pin number correctly because he hypnotized the person after getting that number. I'm not saying that's what Derren Brown did here... but I am saying that's what he could've done.

After all, nobody keeps the same amount of money in their wallet every day, no matter how they travel. He can't just be guessing.

  • The proof of trickery and slight of hand is Derren's subtle but visible reaction to the boy counting his money. Derren already knew the answer written on the paper was wrong before the boy had even finished counting. He simply allowed the child to win which is rather sporting on Derren's part.

  • I WASSS LIKE OH YEAH.

  • He doesn't write anything, The envelope does the writing. Watch when he writes, it's all scribbles.

  • It's a trick envelope. He writes down the answer in his pocket and it transfers to the paper in the envelope. First, he if you look closely when he writes he doesn't write anything. Watch how sloppy yet perfect the numbers are in the first two. those are not written by him. the third, however, is his actual handwriting because he let the kid win on purpose.

  • @27markspitz 3.24. That guy holds the envelope all the way through. How could Derren transfer the paper to the envelope across the air, to the other guy's hand? That's an even more impressive trick!

  • derren brown is just smart and "processes" people's pockets by the questions he asks.

  • Darren is obviously a capable pick-pocket as you can see in one of his other videos. Could he have looked into their wallets before hand, counted the money, then put the wallets back? youtube.com/watch?v=QNwFsP5sjVk&feature=fvst

  • although the speed at which he does this is incredible and the accuracy although with some practice could be improved

  • hes just using logical reasoning and perhaps with a little bit of practice hes gotten better.. i myself came within a few pounds on the first two people. the first lady he asks how she got to work because he can count how much money is required for a bustrip. so there is roughly 12 pounds for both ways on a bus then an average person carries around 25 pounds in their wallet so add them together and plus them with pence that sounds reasonable regarding change received on a bus is roughly 37.40

  • I guessed that other guy's money just from his haircut XD. No not realy, I don't wanna be rude, sorry.

  • Ahahhaa! "She lives there" cracks me up

  • there's a difference between guessing the average amount one carries with him, based on his or her social profile and guessing how much someone has at one particular moment in time. The variance is pretty big, i don't know how he did it.

  • Damn, I got the first 35,30, the second 14,91 and the last 5,5. Weird!

  • ...but then i was like OH YEAH

  • How cool would it have been if had also guessed that there was a lucky stone in her wallet.

  • for the first lady I guessed 37 pounds. It's just a matter of social profiling.

  • @utubeisdi lol, retard.

  • @utubeisdi not really...you can't guess it with that accuracy

  • Wow those Cardiff bystanders like their street entertainment.

Only two ways I can see, 1. pickpocket, count, replace or 2. follow and wait for them to pay for something while watching over the shoulder. I'm inclined towards the second option.

  • hahaa don't underestimate children now a days!

  • Typical error movie film :

4:36 - the boy gives the wallet to the girl right ??

4:40 - what the boy got in his right hand??? ( O_O)

    4:44 - Oh s+t is gone again !! .....lfmao...

It just shows that audio and vid is not sequencial...they've edited it, funny that was right in a experience that went wrong...;)

  • He guessed the 3rd time wrong Onpurpose... 'cuz he was just a kid.. thats my guess. =3

  • fat kid doesn't deserve 100 quid

  • I wonder if he let that kid win. Maybe he was just being a nice guy.

  • omg! I got the second amount correct. :o I guessed 13.34

  • @lewrites thats beautiful

    go kill yourself

  • when i got it i was OWW YEAH!

  • well look where he is, he is at a market. all he has to do is wait till someone buys something

  • You don't expect a kid to have 40 pounds in his wallet :P so all psychology failed in that case :D

  • He pickpockets his "victims", count the money and de-pickpockets them. Easy if youre a master of pickpocketing as Darren :)

Last one was only to give the previous ones credit. And I would choose a kid to give the 100 pounds to aswell. Great trick.

  • he's a kind hearted gentlemen so he does that kind of stuff with kids.

  • the kid lied ...that's why he won...

  • if he lied i'm sure derren would've noticed it^^

  • derren brown is a good guy hahahah give the kid the money.

  • she is in the trick fake

  • ????????

    how?

  • strange

  • I love how after the video finished there was a derren brown video that popped up titled "how to take someones wallet, just by asking".

  • "I'm gobsmacked... 8O"

  • Snoop Dogg!

  • Aww I love the way Derren even puts his mistakes in his shows.

  • yea cause hes so modest.

  • And has great suits :D

  • yea

  • @VanHalen383

His sense of style is even cooler than the tricks XD

  • he shoulda asked the kid if he had a bday lately

  • wwooooo that second guy looks scary as shit

  • he is TELLING them how much is in their wallet

  • wat do u mean?

  • why this writing down the amount on a paper

    completely unnecessary

unless thats where the trick is involved

  • Showmanship.

  • its to prove that hes already made his guess before they count their money, otherwise hed have to somehow take the envolope back, change the number and return it after theyve counted all their money... which doesnt happen

  • Haha. Fuck your jedi mind trickz.

  • He must have wrongly guessed the kids amount of cash on purpose.

  • I concur, I believe he did.

  • I hope he gave the kid the money.

  • The pickpocketing theory makes the most sense until you consider that the boy or his mother would've realized that the boy had had 4.50 before... and they didn't mention anything...

  • my guess is he watched someone buy something, saw how much they paid with, saw how much was in their wallet if any, and then remembered how much change they got back

  • This is the best part his shows.. because it lets you know that practise makes perfect..

  • I am pretty sure he just used calibration, he is extremely calibrated.

  • you're right, and don't forget his aiming, he's extremely aimed, and his conducting, he's extremely conducted.

    I really like this show.

  • nice jargon, wtf does all that mean!? T_T

  • I was kidding, 'cause kirmokin's comment sounded funny to me, even tough I believe calibration is really a thing Derren does, but don't ask me what ;-)

  • He's already demonstrated that he can pickpocket very well. I bet he took someone's wallet while they were in a restaurant or something, counted the money and then put the wallet back. He then stopped them after they left the restaurant.

  • I never thought of that, that is actually a really good explanation! Nice

  • hmmm i agree with the pickpocketing theory, but i dont think it would have been in a restaurant etc because the targets may not have wanted to take part in the show, i think he would have taken the wallets when meeting them, shown them a few tricks to buy time whilst someone else counted, then returned and performed this, Later editing out all tricks but the first

  • lol!

  • You can make a ballpark guess by what someone wears and a couple of their answers. The success rate has got to be pretty low but they always have a trick up their sleeves: post-production editing.

  • yeah but he'd lose 1000s

  • That's the other half of the trick. It's not his money he's using but the production company's, and they can more than afford it. Maybe I'm wrong but that's the best answer I can come up with.

  • I feel sorry for the second person

  • yeh so do i .

  • Today at my college there was a magician(Vanishing Vinny or something). He pretty much did the same thing with me, but coins didn't count. He didn't make me take out my wallet. He wrote down the number and said if he was over 1 dollar off he'd give me 50 bucks. I had 21 dollars in my wallet, he asked me a couple of irrelevent questions(if i have any brothers or sisters, if i have a car, and what my zodiac sign is), and then had me count, and had me open the piece of paper

  • then what?

  • He guessed my money correctly. 21 dollars.

  • Bill Gates version 2.0 lol

  • hahah he got bad luck.. that boy bring that much money cuz his trying to show of cuz his with girls...

  • its an easy guess..if i was to do it i would be like okaye if i get this rong then oll pay you 100 quid and if i get it right you pay me 25%of that if i guess in range of yerr amount of money in yer wallet.:)

  • "oh yea" hahaha

  • There is no way he couldv'e got any information by hypnotizing or any method like that to know the amount of money because the people didn't really know how much money they had in their wallets, so my guess is that it's all acting.

  • Derren Brown is a master pickpocket. Just read his books, and you'll find that out. That's really the only way that this makes sense. There is no way he could know how much money is in a person's wallet just by asking these simple demographic questions.

Those questions are simply misdirection. And losing to the kid at the end solidifies that this is "not a trick" and he's actually predicting the amount of money.

  • exactly.. when you think it;s a trick it's mentalism, when you think it's mentalism it's a trick..

    truely genious actually ^^

  • Taking people's wallets, counting their money and putting it all back WHILE you're talking face to face to someone without them, or the dozens of people around noticing, is simply impossible.

There is a much more elegant way of achieving this same effect.

  • I'm not saying that this is the only way that it is possible, but in his books he talks about stealing someone's watch. Making them think that they were never wearing a watch. And then distracting them and putting their watch back on their wrist.

It's not that he's taking their wallet and counting the money in front of them. Rather that he is doing this at a certain point, and then stopping them on the street a few minutes later. Perhaps he did it while they were signing release forms?

  • I guessed 35, i don't know how i did it, its weird

  • he wanted to give that money to that lil boy.

thats why he didnt ask any questions to hypnotise him. see he asked questions to those people before he wrote the amount. that is hypnotising. he asked range of question that drives their mind somewhere else. for example, do u drive? people start to think about car and expenses and so on.

  • and what?? that doesn't mean that he wants to give it..

If people think about it expenses, etc. they will not say to him how much have!! don't you think? Or are you saying that he can change the money on their wallets by hypnotising them?

  • Why even both replying to that twat?

  • lol it wuznt really hypnotism lol i wuz thinkin he wuz asking like if they drive if they rush to work becuase some guy thats clean cut, nice job, and drives is probably going to have more money than that dude with a dreads lol its about estimation and somewhat apperance hehe but yea im sure if the money went to anyone it wuz the boy but ye.

  • i was like yeah

  • OH YEAH :p

  • "revoltingly clever"

haha love DB's fake but not really fake arrogance. It make's his book even more fun to read.

  • the guy ar 3:21 is so fukin high out of his mind

  • well not only does this prove to people that derren brown is awesome

but the fact that hes not a gimmick

even by him losing we know that hes still legit

    go derren

  • stupid spoiled fat kid

  • I agree his mom probably gets him every thing he wants. derren brown is the best!

  • oh yea! lol

  • He let the fat kid win lol.. we all know it

  • I can't work out how Derren does a lot of his tricks, but I do know that he has an absolutely brilliant memmory. I would therefore hazard a guess that to some degree this is based on a very very detailed research and demographics analysis which he has memorized. hence the questions he asks, they are to fill people into categories. Think about it, you wouldn't expect the kid to have that much money on him, but if you analyze the adults shown by the answers they gave you can put them into groups.

  • I hate the cardiff accent

  • there would be NO way that he would loose to a kid. it had to be planned haha

  • he can get into the minds of adults but not children...haha

  • no its just that you wouldn't expect a kid to have more than £15 on him maybe? but he is the best of the best!

  • my name is Cuntivia Johenson

  • what a nice guy

  • he secretly embedded in to his mind that when he is 18 he should send all his available cash to a bank account that derren owns

  • Darren blatantly just let the kid have the £100 lol

  • yup exactly what i thought. its all for the show. haha.

  • 13 of the second one. thats what i thought

  • dude.... i thought 13 quid for the last one. sweet

  • Derren is soo sweet=) He purposely lost to the kid!

  • yeahh,, now the kid will buy weed and drugs with the money

  • The kid will grow up to be a banker or a stock brocker.

  • do it often enough and you have your clips where you are

write. i guess this is part of it, plus some enhancement coming out of the questions in order to increase the chance. plus i would think that the actual money you have with you is usually pretty close to most other people. and if he choose people within a certain income class he can further increase the chances. i don't think it is much more than that.

  • lets chat

  • it was like "oh yeah"

  • @OnceExisted

    hahah

  • xDxD

  • i think he purposely lost to please the crowd and the viewers.

  • I believe he didn't do it on purpose (if you have an idea of how he does it, you can see what went wrong), but as you wrote : it was good for the show so he let go the money.

He is very good !!! I admire hiw work a lot.

  • believe me,he let the kid win and i know this is done by pickpocketing skills

  • he got beat by a kid

  • lol on 2:35 the guy behind derren was like looking on the black dude with some smiling face, bet his laughing his mind out on that guy!! DAMN!! that black dude is a shit hahaha

  • bitch!!! give me 100 quid now you scouser!

  • "OH YEA"

    LOL

  • looooooool i though i was the only one LMAO!!!!!

  • that was insane

  • The black guy reminds me of the Cowardly lion.

  • these guys are pickpocketed beforehand, money is counted, information told to derren, the rest play acting

  • THIS GUY IS THE DEVIL

  • HOW?

  • this feat was achieved through pick pocketinn skills, the rest follows from this

  • OH YEAH

  • yeaahhhh..

  • maybe he did it on purpose.

    but still.

    omg he's amazing.

  • "like OH YEAH!" :D

  • He taught because he is only a young chile, he would have onlyy £4 something, but he was rich!

  • "...and I can look revoltingly clever." Lovely.

  • The great think about Derren, is he includes he's 'mistakes'. He doesn't get it right 100% of the time and he's man enough to show it.

    Bloody brilliant.

  • he's man enough for me any time, oh yeah

  • God was I asleep when I wrote that? I think I just killed the English language!

    think = thing

    he's = his

    bloody = This was quite

  • HOW THE FUCK every video i see of him same reaction *takes off headphones* "HOE THE FUCK??HOW THE FUCK??" everytime

  • I'm guessing the random questions about how they get to work etc. have nothing to do with it - just the showmanship

  • as with many of this videos all I'm left with is HOW HOW HOW ??? :D

The little kid was cool tho. Derren > anyone!

  • Derren gave 100 to the boy for the holiday. You can see that through his face.

  • he totally gave him the money for free lol

  • LMAO! at 0:18, that's really funny! hahaha!

  • Oh Ya...lmao

  • I got a feeling Derren could've known how much he had, but being a kind and generous person he gave him the 100.

Now if only I wish he gave me a hundred bucks.

  • 100 quid in british pounds is around 200 us dollars.

  • "I was like oh yeah!" haha!

  • HAHA! Just had to point this out: When Derren's walking away from the camera at 0:18, he walks into the door :P

  • Lmao, I want to see a close up of that... XD

  • he did it wrong on purpose to the kid

  • Aww..Derren's so cute when he gives the money to the boy!

    *has fangirly moment*

  • lol beaten buy sum rich kid...

  • You have to ask yourself, why does he "write it down" on a piece of paper, why not just announce how much he thinks the people have THEN make them count it...maybe he needs them to count it first...;)

  • Spot on! mate.

it's like when people take out a coin place it on the table, pick it back up then make it vanish... why the need to place it on the table? so they can drop it off the edge when they pick it back up again.

  • this can be done writing on it and giving it to spec to hold the entire time.

  • I love that little *bing* noise whenever he flashes that £100 :D

  • At first I thought I wouldn't get the 100 pound..

But then I got it and it was like..

    Ohh yeahh. 8D

  • At first he went good.

    But after the clip...

...it just proves that he's still human.

  • I was there when he was doing the little kid!! It was soooo funny when he got it wrong!!!

  • 'Inside my mind now is chaos'

    I bet he's a performance poet.

  • Just so everyone knows, i live in Cardiff and that black guys always in town walking round.

He aint a stooge fo' sure.

  • ok ok here it is....i noticed on the second guy at 3:13 through 3:20 and at EXACTLY 3:18 he had a credit card he pretended to use as a back so he could write the number....in actuality the piece of paper was on THE WRONG SIDE of the card! leading us to conclude the number was already on the paper and thus this part of the show was staged....

  • hmm..youre right..

  • just a thought but the credit card could have been just a hard backing, so he could write on a piece of paper :)

  • Inside my mind is chaos!!!

  • When she said "my lucky stone" Derren lost all respect!
