The HTC Touch Diamond doesn't work with the mobile version of the BBC iPlayer. Going to the site displays:
"Sorry, this phone does not support BBC iPlayer. BBC iPlayer will be coming to more phones in due course"
So, a third party application is required. I've experimented with the buffering durations and you can set it to play pretty much instantly. Obviously, you'll need a faster connection to do that.
Yup, takes a little long to buffer which is a shame. The quality, however, is excellent, and I'm personally happy to wait a little longer to get such a high quality video.
It's buffered over a 1.5 MB WiFi connection, so it's certainly not the fastest connection out there. I wouldn't want to buffer a video over a 3G connection though.
Shorter videos (i.e. 30 mins) buffer a little quicker, although you still have to wait. Buffering times can be adjusted (default is auto, but you can specify a %)
Much much better on an iPhone and the ilk
