  • I cheked out the computor in my classroom today, and guess what? Its got a harddisc of 10 GB!! xD

  • Spect it will give you a Megabyte laughs...Squeals

  • 4 Megabytes? In the eighties? That thing must have cost a fortune!

  • In a few years we will have computers with memory measured in terabytes maybe.

  • @god0fgod They definitely already exist.

  • @LaCerca I mean in our homes... And commonly.

  • Comment removed

  • He forgot to mention you can eat the fish, thinking now i would take the fish and use it for the silly fish dance

  • @livedandletdie yeah just 40GB but

I got it free but still incomparison to that

Man what did people do in those days

  • @Sungkawa they had a life

  • @nukeman13 agree from my most deepest brain cells.

  • back then they weren't as smart as we are now so take it easy guys but remember I'll always be smarter than you and if you'll make me prove it I shall surely fail even if my life or anyone elses was on the stake.

  • anybody else notice at 0:35 a flash of the chick talking in the beginning?

  • lol I didnt know my desktop pc is also portable

  • I hate this bitch.

  • amiga was better

  • Hello, Compaq! COOOOMMPAAAQ! *Bangs on desk*

I've got a fresh floppy disk for when you wake up, Compaq Computer!

    *Bangs some more*

    PRETTY PC WAKE UP!

    *Drops on floor*

    Now that's what I call a dead parrot,er-Word Processor!

  • GIVE ME THAT FISH! NOW!

  • 0:28 for john cleese

  • Wow 4MB thats like 3,5" disks

And i was complaining that my portable hard drive only has 40GB of memory

  • @Sungkawa just 40GB ???

  • Four megabytes? I remember writing programs to fit in one kilobyte.

Well, I was nine years old.

  • Hey, it's Pamela Wallin!

  • A powerful portable computer that doesn't smell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAH!! Someone, gimme a tissue!!

  • this is GREAT advertising, no matter how heavy the "laptop".

kids: we didn´t even have cell phones then ...

and JC did an exellent job.

  • what the fuck is the stupid american bitch at the start? 0:28 for john cleese

  • Surely the fish tastes better.

  • I wonder what the price was for one of these brand new?

  • pause at 0:36

dont bother spending 2 mins trying to pause at the right time, it's just a boring picture of a woman

  • @MegaHumanbean It's the same woman that introduces the commercial.

  • Classic British comedy <3

  • It weights 22 lbs

and holds a little less than 3 Floppy Disks......

    What a steal!!!

  • what did he say at 1.20 that made him laugh?

  • @DreamOhDream because he siad it will give you a megabiter

  • @TheKillerbobrv no a megabite

  • she somehow reminds me of the joker from batman, except for the fact that her make up is just half-finished and she got that funny but also strange mop on her head...

  • 4 megabytes! We Are so spoiled now.

  • I'm sure we won't agree that 4.1 megabytes is a fair number of megabytes, the computer couldn't even store this video.

  • 112 people either have no sense of humour or they got so much plastic surgery that they cannot physically smile, which therefore has spoiled their mood...

    -_-

  • Or, instead of you talking for a quarter of the video, we could actually get what we came for in the first place.

  • Not quite sure why I find the flash of the woman at 0:36 really funny

  • @Sn000kerAble I think we have all seen enough german politics in the last 80 years

  • @gtq838

    so, where are you from?

  • @gtq838 Hmm, they really did over do that french vacation.

  • @Polybun lol, yeah everybody is too busy noising around in american politics to even acknowledge that every country has a tainted past. It is funny when germans poke fun at american politics though like they have a great track record of selecting quality leadership.

  • @gtq838 Yeah well. In germany's defense, I would have voted for Hitler. Dead jews, big ambitions... ummmmm... did I say dead jews?

  • Wholly unnecessary intro.

  • this was funny, but an awful commercial to watch

  • @Sn000kerAble I would be afraid to touch a german's face. Probably has poo on it.

  • click 6 for the best laugh ever

  • love the intro

  • 4.1 meg! OMG! hahahahhaa

  • I don't get ir, actually.

  • his laugh made me laugh!

  • jesus christ

his laugh man... it is so fucking genius.

  • U suck big time fucker

  • Fish slap that computer!

  • wait, portable? so that's like an ancient laptop?

  • 111 people smell like a fish and weight 10 Kg and can't remember anything and are covered in slime.

  • For a moment I thought this was on of those "scare" videos.

  • 22 pounds (10 kg)

    4,1 MB memory

    Well,... (speachless)

  • i had to pause like twenty times before it landed on that frame at 36 sec. i think this commercial was recorded on VHS over some old home movie.

The introduction was like something out of a documentary (skippable BTW, just click :30), but wasn't as bad as some of these comments. Sounds like things people say when they're talking to their TVs.

  • @juggleknot wtf!! i tried it and did it at one go :D

  • That bitch is annoying..

  • What did he say at 1:17???

  • @TheNoseMusic I think: I suppose it could give you a mega-bite though HAAAHAAAA

  • @stfwho Actually considering when this came out 4.1 mb is actually quite impressive even for a portable computer. Considering at this time everything was 8 bit graphics for games and even Texas Instruments had a computer out I have to give credit to that computers performance.

  • In today's world, a 22 lb fish probably is worth more than that pos computer.

  • For those who want to quote this video to their friends without having to see the dumb introduction that spoils it, here's a link youtube(dot)com/watch?v=RlmzwZXa-Ww&feature=related

  • 4.1 mb? No, I do not agree with you on that Mr. Cleese

  • 0:37 the womans face appears. Why?

  • lol 4.1 mb

  • IS THAT A FOR REAL COMPUTER AND COMMERCIAL?

  • @LifesVoyager The older generation apparently doesn't understand that we gather all needed info from the title and info box. -__-

  • completely superfluous introduction

  • I thought Maud was dead..

  • LOL only

  • 107 people, like the fish better.

  • 0:36 for the flash frame... It's quite funny actually XD

  • Comment removed

  • That subliminal frame there reminded me of a so called "myth"

"Hypnosis doesn't work, its already proven lots of times, BUT DON'T USE IT ITS FORBIDDEN AND DANGEROUS!"

*Watches commercial as red car drives on a black and white background while the song hums: Feelgood feelgood feelgood feelgood feelgooood, then they show a woman's face in gray background with her lips in the same color as the car.*

Yup folks, neither hypnosis nor subliminal work, but don't use it cuz its illegal! >:(

  • 4.1mb? i can just put 1 song or 1 HQ pic on it and it's full!

  • @WackoX1337 "Memory" not disk space =3

  • i dont want to listen to a cow about what im about to watch

    HURR DURR WAT R COMPOTOR?

  • toooo funny

  • 4.1 MB of Memory.....

  • 22 goddamn pounds

  • ....Which makes it extremely portable... :DDD

Jonh Cleese is one of my all time Favs.

  • Cheryl, you're as irrelevant as ever.

  • @cpunchesful Nope. She's as irrational as Pi.

  • Anybody else that has noticed the frame with another persons face @ 0:36? What is it doing there?

    Subliminal message?

  • @njetblaj Nah just a frame with that woman sitting in the chair smiling to the side

  • I just watched this awsomeness on my mothers compaq computer, tragically I need to fix mine.

  • @wert180 are you aware of how old this commercial is?

    Idiot.

  • Doesn't look PORTABLE at all...

  • @Polybun If it weren't for her stating the obvious this clip would have been much funnier.

  • @Polybun Grow up dude...

  • @JustWickedSwede Sure, just as soon as I roll off of your sister.

  • @Polybun Which one of them?

  • @JustWickedSwede Hell I don't know, the one with nut stains on her back. It's not like I ask the names of the people I rape!

  • Wow! Because 4.1 MB is so much!

  • i find it humorously ironic that im watching the add for this on a video file that is more megabites then that computer can hold

  • "If you want a powerful portable computer that doesn't smell" hahahaha :D

  • "sorry, I was miles away" lol

  • lol....the specifications make me giggle

  • The fish is stone dead..ha..ha...ha

  • wow 4.1mb. Almost enough to run well um actualy nothing at all.

  • @andysim232 Or anything at all, at the time.

  • @andysim232 I think he's talking about RAM memory..

  • wow it almost has enough memory for a whole song!!!

  • "If your looking for a powerfull, portable computer that doesn't smell..." XD

LMAO Only Cleese can make things appear completely absurd and official simultaneously.

  • That's not even 4.1 MB of RAM. That would have been a crapton of RAM in the mid 80s (256k or 512k was the norm). I bet he's referring to the hard drive, not the RAM.

  • 4.1MB!!! oh my gosh I wish my computer had that much memory and it only weighs 22 pounds, I wish my laptop was that portable!

  • I spit at your 4.1Mb

  • @genericmember1 oh wait ...wrong comment to thumb up i meant i spit on you

  • "If you're looking for a powerful portable computer, that doesn't smell... buy a compaq."

  • The good old days when we had to really consider buying the optional math chip... god I miss them....

  • Comment removed

  • y computers?

  • 22lbs!! :D

  • Did anybody else see a flash frame?

  • @ajuk1 looked like Princess Diana?

  • @ajuk1 Looked like a side shot of the presenter.

  • @ajuk1 I did, aren't subliminal messages illegal?

  • @dasergioo: No, they aren't. That's because they don't work. This has been proven over and over again, but the urban myth lives on forever.

  • @albedoshader And for the record, they are illegal still, for a reason.

  • @SilenceOfChaos: There's no law that forbids "subliminal messaging".

  • @albedoshader Lies, after Coca cola claimed to have employed this and reported that "audience got desperate for their products" the federal law commission completely forbid it, this was around the end of the 50`s.

It takes a small search on the internet you know, or have a look at the paragraphs in a lawbook, it is defined under "subliminal stimuli".

The term really exists regardless of the legality or effectiveness so the " " you use just "look" "stupid".

  • @SilenceOfChaos: You're talking about about James Vickary, a market researcher who alledgedly tested this in two movie theaters in New Jersey in 1957. The Coca Cola company was not involved at all. Vicary also coined the term "subliminal messaging".

Later he admitted he made it up for marketing reasons. His later (real) experiments showed there was no effect at all.

And there's an FCC guideline about it from January 1974, 'Broadcast of information by means of "subliminal perception" techniques'.

  • @albedoshader Sure, believe that if you wish.

The same with hypnosis, although it shows no (real) results, It is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN to use, why? BECAUSE IT IS DANGEROUS!

And it doesn't work by the way >:(

And yes, regardless of the results, subliminal messaging is ILLEGAL because IT doesn't WORK!

You can believe what they feed you, or trust yourself, I chose the latter.

That is all I have to say btw, have a nice day :).

  • @ajuk1 yeh i caught it for some reason its the lady at the start getting off her chair lol took me about 2 minutes to click and pause it at the right point but hello though ud like to know wat it was XD

  • @ajuk1 The flash frame is of the lady you see talking in the beginning.

  • @ajuk1 It's just a video editing glitch. It's a picture of 1Cheryl grimacing and looking off to the side

  • Didn't he also advertise the Brita water filter for awhile?

  • Oh good i need to update TeamFortress2 over steam, ok just let me start downloading it..........HOLLYSHIT! 5Gb :O

  • Ahahaha, if Cleese was to re-do an computer ad again. I think this computer will take the place of the fish. I can't believe the computer in the video, was once considered "portable".

  • what movie is that guy from??? sounds so familur!!?!

  • @DaBossk : Monty Python and dozens of movies. Shrek for example.

  • @SAMagic wtf John Cleese was in shrek?!? who did he do the voice acting for? I don't particularly watch the shrek movies, but if John Cleese is a voice actor, I may have to watch it. :O Oh, and he was also in Fawlty towers for that matter :P

  • @toastface5 : He's the King (Fiona's dad) in the Shrek movies. He also turned up in a Bioware RPG - look up 'John Cleese Jade Empire' and prepare to be amused. :-]

  • @SAMagic ahh, ok :) And i'll look up that rpg :P

  • The fish is stone dead...It is a former fish. It is no more;it has ceased to be. lol

  • "ha-ha-ha."

    Oh god, John...never change.

The first couple computers my family had were Compaq. I had no idea Cleese advertised (amazingly) for it. (:

  • I love how he just started to laugh at his own joke. This man is a comedy genius!

  • Bunch of weird people

  • fuck you

  • wtf - why does she flash up at #0:37?

  • @questionch Its a picture of that woman at the beginning walking away - god knows why. I slowed the frame rate down as I was curious!

  • 4.1MB - LOL

  • i couldn't hear what he was saying - what was the punchline on the joke that made him laugh?

  • @marknhopgood "I suppose it could give you a mega bite"

    It, being the fish.

  • It's not a problem with John Cleese, he was made to make this funny, and it isn't, atleast in the sense that it isn't awfully dated. Technology marches on, but Compaq never did quite get it... I'm glad I found some disk drives that worked with their stupid architecture... only if their EISA-bus would... I hate Compaq because they never used any standard parts in any of their stupid machines... You can't repair them even if they're like "memory doesn't work" you can only throw them at the wall.

  • 4.1 MB memory!

Damn, makes my 4G look puny :S

  • Sorry, lovely Cheryl and John, I'm still having the dead fish; perhaps you should try a little bit harder.

(This is pythonesque humour at its best. Too bad for those that don't get it.)

  • "Sorry,I was miles away"

  • 4.1mb one day i hope to have that much

  • Im a dead fish ^_^

  • amazing - now 4 GB is common.. in 30 years they'll laugh at that:S

  • @ReitersOfTheStorm

Don't you mean 400 GB? Or even a terabyte or two? I'm pretty sure he wasn't referring to RAM in the ad, no PC back then had anything like 4 MB of RAM.

  • @shadowflame3

Ya you're propaply right - which only makes it more amazing! And yes 1 terabyte is more and more common, I just bought a pc with 1terabyte; thats more than enough for me.. And I can't figure out who needs 12 GB of RAM in a personal computer - saw a Vision "Xforce" with 3 TB harddisk and 12 GB DDR3 RAM - for an pc!

  • @ReitersOfTheStorm My first PC, in 1988, had 640 KB of RAM and no hard disk. Still, Bill Gates (allegedly) thought that that should be enough for anyone.

It's also been said that storage capacity is increasing faster than we can reasonably fill it up, so soon there'll be no need to go though deleting and deciding which porn you can live without :)

  • @shadowflame3 Rofl

  • 4.1 MB? LOL!

  • 4.1 MB? Awesome!

  • 4.1 megabits? what a bunch of memory!! LOL

  • @jorasave Byte. Not bit.

  • Back in those days, computers were little more than word processors.

Mainly used for producing and storing text files.

Each document could be saved as a text file of approx 1kb to 2kb. With a storage capability of just over 4mb, meant thousands of text files could be stored, plus some had a floppy disc drive that gave a backup of approx 700kb per floppy disc.

Once other technology was invented, games, printers, scanners, speakers etc, then computers advanced to facilitate the new hardwares.

  • Hardly, they were first used to effectively break encryption.

They were commonly used for sorting stuff.

Very few people used them solely as word processors.

  • 4.2 mega bytes thats crazy.

  • 0:36....subliminal message?

  • Check out TOS, the old Atari OS, which was compact and well written, which used very little memory.

  • 4.1 mb,what kind of OS can fit on that???

  • DOS and some of the first distributions of unix :)

  • I remember when my 40mb hard drive was 800 bucks.. haha.. Was also the size of 2 CDROM drives..
