  • Great video..

I was on the front lines

    during this ty

    please check out my vids

  • Music? How about Ramstein's 'Firefight'.

I remember the Angeles Crest fire in 1959 in the same area. It scared me to death and came very close to our house on Day St in Tujunga. As kids, we hiked to the top of Mt. Lukens in the vid many times. I feel sorry for the people who lost homes and would like to waterboard the losers who started this fire.

  • Thank you to all the firefighters

  • Is this fire called a "station fire" for a reason or is it the ignorant media again picking up on a new way to say things and then beating it to death like "on the ground" Pleas someone explain station fire. Was there a station there or?

  • no it was started near a ranger station i think**

  • Please look at my earlier comments, already answered

  • Maybe if you would have made it one shot and put some music to it, this video would have been good. 2 star

  • Yep, I guess we'll never know.

  • and jus to think all that smoke made it to southern wyoming......no wonder it was so dern smoky a few days ago....impressive vid 5 stars!!

  • i live right next to this fire, everyday before school this week ive had ash all on my car

  • nice lapse, add some audio next time :)

    check out my HD vid.

  • You know, I threw this together in a hurry thinking I'd add music later. Well, now I have the music but discovered that YouTube's "AudioSwap" function only works for THEIR options and doesn't permit uploading my own new track. But I agree, music would have been a good thing!

  • If the environmentalists would allow people to rid the forests of dead wood with controlled fires then these larger out of control fires would not be threatenings major cities.

  • It's got nothing to do with environmentalists. What really needs to be gotten rid of are the people who build their houses in these areas, and the speculative real estate developers that make it all possible.

If there were no houses there the fires could be left to run their natural course, reducing the intensity of the next fire. But as long as there are buildings and people there, the fires must be extinguished as fast as possible. That sets these areas up for a bigger disaster next time.

  • You can complain all day, nothing is going to change.

  • lol

  • And the damn environmentalists say our cars are destroying the ozone...

  • yupp

  • thats not good for the envirment rite???

  • fires are natural, they clean up all the dead brush and allow new trees to grow.

  • You are correct, did you know that Pine Cones will not open up to become a seed without +195F temps to open them up...

Fires are the lifeblood of forests...

  • yup, and as we fight fires to save homes we fuel even larger fires to start. the lack of fires results in overcrowded brush, such as the fire seen in this video. the winds are calm but because of the high amounts of fuel, the fire burst out of control.

  • are you kidding? its the environment that did it tobegin with its a natural cycle.

  • we can capture saddam hussein but not put out a fire

  • ok lets see you try to put out the fire

  • starting at 0:28 did something blow up ? look at the smoke and yeah California forest fires are big. Even here in small country like Latvia ( other side of the world - in EU ) I saw this in news.

  • we live in Colorado and Got that smoke here

  • Awesome video!! Wow...so thats what has been making our sunsets here in Colorado blood red. Yesterday the smoke haze was so bad that we couldn't even see the mountains which Denver sits right at the base of.

  • watching this creeps me out.

  • well done

  • Oh my goodness.... and I have an amazing photo from my news paper of this actually... it is crazy I can't believe it.

  • lol stupid canadians

  • Umm it's in Southern California. Not Canada.

  • Instead of the billions of dollars used to help Iraq (who could use that money against us in the future like others have in the past) we could have used those billions & the military to fix this immediately.

  • Those big jets of smoke are peoples homes burning one at a time.... o_O ...OMGosh this is pretty bad deal!!!

  • This kind of fire is dangerous for not just due to the wind but it also creates pyrocumulus and pyrocumulonimbus clouds (this video is a great example) that produces lightning which can cause more spots of fire.

  • Thank you Mr. Wizard.

  • I'm not a Wizard but made this comment for people who don't know why are those white clouds there.

  • I know this is a bad thing but I look at the bright side of this situation. Because of the smoke I'm getting a bunch of days off school and the sky looks beautiful.

  • how serious !

  • very bad

  • One of the coolest fire I've seen. Just staring at the mountain all outlined with red and citylights in front. Amazing and cool. Yet, sad and scary.

  • Goodbye O-zone =(

  • i live in la mirada not too fAR I SEE THE SMOLE BUT DONT SMELL NOR SEE ANY ASH

  • YUCK. I live near the fire and air quality is terrible, my car is covered in ash. I just pray for the fire fighters out there.

  • First fire then hurricane and callifornia is overdue for an earthquake that would cover the budget problem.. :)

  • Fellow Americans from CA,

    How can Minnesota Help?

  • Probably by bringing in some water

  • It's been smoky here in Las Vegas too. Good luck to the fire fighters.

  • really!?

I live in Temecula, one of the farthest south-suburb cities from Los Angeles and we had a structure fire. Even though we had a fire and LA is near us, it's not smokey.

All we see is smog. And Temecula is a city built on hills about 200-400ft high idk but it's like a smoggy summer to me.

  • It's not foggy here in San Luis Obispo but that didn't stop the ashes from coming.

  • Depends on where the wind is blowing. I can tell when you can't see the Strip on top of a hill.

  • I saw that one. It's like hiting us in Pomona bad now, thanks to the winds.

  • Apparently you can see the smoke all the way in Colorado(What everyone is saying including my teacher).

  • That's what I was thinking too, very hazy air the last few days, you can really notice it at sunset.

  • so huge!! I can see that kind of smoke.. I live in santa monica though :(

  • nicely filmed

looks cool but still isnt something to be happy about

    the sun was orange today

    kinda freaky

  • to all the fire fighters out there trying to get this thing under control. good luck. it seems like you'll need it. :(

  • Makes me think of Mt. Saint Helens

  • i live right below the mountains near allen/ new york in pasadena and this smoke/ash is killing me.. this video looks close to home, where was this shot at?

  • yeah... i live off allen. i couldn't see the mountains today, it was so smokey.

  • o and good luck to those of you who live near the fire.

  • live in oc the ashes are down here too :(

  • good work. its difficult to see it move when u see it. yea the air quality sucks and i have to drive closer to it for school

  • Terrible tragedy to those who lost there homes, sad week.

  • I live in Venice and my truck is covered.

  • my point is, they should be deployed en masse as soon as possible. not a few aircraft a day or more later, but tens of them hours later under a centralized air traffic controller, strafing the fire one after the other.

  • hiodr said "my point is, they should be deployed en masse as soon as possible."

True they had to stack the aircraft in a holding pattern cuz they couldn't process their use fast enough.

  • im all the way by san isidro, i dont see any ashes or smell smoke. but the heat is intense

  • cuz of this my schools canceled until wedndsday i hope dey cancil thursday also cuz i live in glendale my car had all ash on it

  • I live in Hollywood and I can clearly see the thick smoke from my house. Looks like there was a giant explosion in the mountains. In addition, ashes were present all over my car for a couple of days.

  • Yea.. imagine being here.

    Ashes falling 24/7.

    Horrible temperature, air.

    Sigh..

  • how did california survive before firefighters were here? Anyways, thank God I live in Cerritos, CA. I can see smoke in the distance and the sun is orange sometimes, but not too bad like last year. Best wishes to those who are affected strongly by the fires

  • This is practically the view from my window /=

  • ha that looks like the view from my backyard!

  • hurmm

  • I hate fire season, pollutes LA more than it already is.

  • Just like when I was a kid. . . . .

  • yall thall cool

  • the white clouds at the top is the last bit of moisture.

  • wow, this really cool, thx so much

  • i have football practice in this air.

  • this is sick, hope they cancel school tomorrow cus of these fires, i cudn't breathe today...

  • my birthday is august 29th

  • bah dur DUR?

  • our skoo was hazey with ash faling and we couldnt see the sky that well and at the end of th day it was almost clear i think thts weird

  • My car is covered in ashes.

  • WOW!!!!

  • that was the worst day

  • Wow that sucks. My grandfather died that day. It's also 4 years after hurricane Katrina, which took my grandfather's home and many of his friends and families.

  • voyspace was a better one

  • Pardon me?

  • a few days ago i could see that really white cloud up top, today it just spread out and the sky was very hazy <:/

  • is the air safe to breath over there?

  • no, but not many people can do something about that.

  • its not safe its very un healthy man....its horrible out here smoke all over the LA county :(

  • no, it's considered hazardous with the ashes, smoke and all. =P

ADVICE TO PEOPLE WHO LIVE CLOSE TO THAT AREA:

    >Get your hose and spray water all over your plants. (not too much, though. you don't wanna kill them!)

    >Exercise INDOORS. Avoid any heavy activity outdoors; you don't wanna breathe in too much ash and smoke D:

    >if any of you can think of any other suggestions, please reply to this comment! :D

  • it sucks out here.

  • Sucks to be the compony that owns that station. But got to love to watch things go boom. :D

  • i live in Colorado and its hazy over here because of the smoke

  • Taken in my neck of the woods.... NIIIICE!!!!!

  • my heart goes out to everyone that may be/ is harmed.

  • Its called a Pyrocumulus cloud ... DUH.. it could either drop rain and put out the fire that created it in the first place, or it can create thunderstorms and create more potential fires

  • I have been watching this on the News and this is very sad for all those that live there :( Seems like there are lots of fires that take place there.

  • from where i am it looks like a volcano eruption

  • from where i live it looked like a mushroom cloud, but now you cant even see it because of the layer of smog and ash

  • a surface volcano...

  • Yup very hot night and day at this time, and the sky not even blue or clear anymore full of smog.

  • i can imagine an epic battle below the toxic fumes.

  • woooooow

  • We are on this fire right now. Structural Urban Interface.

  • Man i saw this on the 29th in the sky when i was going back to Chicago on a southwest airplane, it was big then so it must be bigger now.

  • If you have any Plans to come to L.A..Cancel them its way to hot over Here..I hope the fire Burns Out but they are saying its going to Last 2 more Weeks. They are calling it the perfect storm

  • thats a dumb name for a forest fire

  • It's named that because the fire started near a ranger station or something

  • Unfortunately, I have to.

  • always someone alive complainin about other people being alive and being happy while there alive

    go watch "endgame" on youtube

then theres the ones complaining about co2 as if there not made of carbon

  • its pollution.... theres not enough regulations on pollution. The pollution only effects populated areas because theres a lot of people using pollutants. The problem isnt over population. Its just a need for clean burning fuels. There is no such thing as global warming. It's almost impossible for us to affect the earths natural cycle. It's easy for congress to step in and ban gasoline powered cars and replace them with hydrogen. You can change power plants to use hydrogen as well.

  • looks like a valcano

  • so many fires at our place :o

  • i live in denver colorado and the forecast for this whole week is basically hazy and cloudy..today(september 1st) was probably the haziest day i have ever seen in my life cuz of the smoke traveling all the way over here...the whole sky was a huge haze and it made the sun shine really wierd too...it was very odd

  • Yes, I live in denver too...the sun was really trippy and bright orange this evening. I was so surprised to find out that the smoke has traveled all the way here from Cali. It's crazy. I can't imagine what they are going through over there.

  • five stars for the power of the planet

  • It looks like an atomic bomb went off. I can see it from my house. Massive fire to be producing THAT much smoke.

  • For today's weather forcast, we will be having some heavy ash fall throughout the day and night along with a high of 110 degrees and a low of 83 degrees. Good luck, have fun.

  • thats my cities high i live in Las Vegas

  • thats not ur city its LA no duh look it up smarts!

  • its cool how you can see the condensation level sitting right above the fire. the warm air is pushing the other air up and its condensing making the other clouds close to the right

  • man, i live nearby and it looks like Armageddon. The sun is red, sky is orange-gray, and it smells like smoke. it sucks >:0

  • I live in los angeles

  • ★★★★★

  • ★★★★★

  • i saw it in panaromic view from monterey park. some spots (even on street level) give the largest view from the bottom of the mountain to the top. i took like 500 pictures!

  • yo

    sup bro

  • Smoke plumes, yes. Fire plumes... errr...

  • theres no such thing as global warming

  • right. & any "warming" there might be, is a result of those elite messing w/ things...

  • yeah your right

  • Technically there is, but its all part of the Earth's sequence of warming and cooling.

Maybe humans are adding a little bit to it but just think how hot it was back when the dinosaurs were around. Humanity isn't causing global warming, I don't think we suck that bad.

  • you are right there is, but please people do remember the earth has been hotter then this before, a lot hotter, we as people are only putting small amounts or co2 in the air. earth has a natural reserve of frozen co2, in the deepest parts of the ocean. if that starts milting then there is going to be catastrophic damage. But dont worry, people green is not the answer right now, maybe in a few years ie 100 years. and there is more oil then you think, resign why oil keeps going up, greed

  • Isn't that a song? *And the hills of los Angles are burning...*

  • yuppp

  • Yes. It's from Bad Religion (Los Angeles is burning.)

  • i saw that cloud from woodland hills yesterday

  • Wow wheres that? I seen it from the beach!

  • Isn't it pretty? Just think if the whole state goes up we will be out of debt...

  • dude... hypetech should send jets with h2o missiles. it's basically an over sized capsule with water. but legions of jets. you know?

  • dude i woke up this morning and i thought it was cloudy but it was the ash....rip to firefighters who died!

  • Dont tell Al Gore about this fire!

  • Al Gore caused global warming lol

  • The fire last year in november was really bad and there was ash falling everywhere. The air was really smokey too.

  • last night i was over at Pierce College and didnt relize how bad this fire is.even tho I live in sfv i could see the red flames from the mountain .. hope this wasnt some fire started by someone..

  • I'm in Acton right now and that smoke is driving me crazy. I can't step outside of my house without gagging.

Luckily, I live on the north side of the 14 so even if the fire somehow managed to touch south Acton, it won't reach me.

  • Good luck on the fire check out my twins on my page it will make u happy

  • Who ever thinks this was caused by global warming is stupid. Of course it's gonna get hot in summer especially at the end of August and September. So far its been a below average/normal summer and thats also why I don't belive in climate change. Some years we suffer a drought and other years we get plenty of rain and thats just how California is.

  • Hasn't reached Burbank yet =o

  • Why they don't put them out earlier? It all boils down to several reasons.

    Overtime

    More money for budget.

There are no heros in small fires, only large ones.

(Or they just can't get the lead out.)

    You'll figure it out someday.

  • I can smell the fire even from burbank...

  • Global warming means scare the heck out of the people so that we can tax the bejeebers out of the energy companies. Tou are the ones paying for it anyway.

  • cool

  • the sky looks orange pinkish , its coming towards my house : / i really get scared of that thing with global warming :(

  • fires r actually good for the enviroment. it sounds weird but the smoke actually filters out bad material

  • Yeah have to see it to believe it. Thank fully those fires are mostly behind the hills surrounding the valley, so most of that smoke wasn't blown into the city. It would be catastrophic it does jump to the other side.

I can't say the same for the Pasadena area, I haven't been around there so far.

Best wishes to everyone here in LA and those affected by the fires south east of here.

  • Plants in that area have a special substance in their organism (body) that is highly flammable. When extreme temperatures hit, these plants can spontaneously flame. As you already know, once one little spark starts, winds kick in and spread the fire.

But still, even with this knowledge, it is possible that the fire was started by one match (cigarette smoking) :(

  • Why they don't put them out earlier? It all boils down to one or two reasons.

    Overtime

    Hero worship.

    More money for budget.

(Or they can't get the lead out.)

  • good trolling. 6/10

  • Amazing

  • when are they going to get serious about knocking out these fires? they've got guard and reserve heavy lift aircraft all over the place that could be fitted for water/retardant dropping dual use. they could put it out in no time if they hammered it non-stop.

  • clearly you dont live in california. its not as easy as using " heavy aircraft". we have over 6,500 firefighters, helicopters and planes helping to put out the fire. you cant just put it out in no time.

  • actually, i have lived in california over fifty years. given the wealth and resources of this state, there is no excuse for the tiny and motley third world looking air force we use to fight fires. this is certainly no criticism of those doing the job, just a statement that we can do far better if we would apply our resources.

  • "given the wealth and resources of this state, ". No disrespect hiodr; however, I often hear that California is bankrupt and cashless. Of course, how can this be? Hollywood, cutting edge science projects etc.

As an outsider, I often imagine Californians as living in ET, the film, style homes or living by the sea.

  • that the state's resources are squandered, pilfered, etc., is perhaps a factor. on the other hand, according to walter burien on website CAFR1, this state is sitting on about 62 billion it does not report to the public.

  • uhhm there is alot more to california than that, kind of an ignorant statement

  • Naive perhaps, but ignorant?

  • well that would be like me saying, all people from the south just eat bbq, and watch nascar

  • But it's never this bad, and the flames rarely reach over the Big Tujunga Canyon areas/

  • global warmings a myth as soon as it gets hot its cause of global warming then our winters are in the negatives and were having blizzards

  • I do know that. generally, white smoke coming out of a fire is usually steam as water is hitting it. In regards to the "white mushroom" plume in this film, is this the case on what happened there?

... and from a totally pragmatic point of view, quite an interesting video. Stay safe!

  • And people are worried about humans polluting the atmosphere!

Only slightly kidding there, I know we dumb a lot of toxins into the atmosphere too, but watching this, I can't help think that way.

  • The thing is, when it burns houses, its burning metals/plastic/rubber etc... dumping that into our atmosphere.

So it is still us.. its just we didn't start the fire. Its always been burnin since the world's been turnin. We didn't start the fire we didn't ignite but we try to fight it!

  • Mega global warming!

  • In Colorado here, there's smoke covering the sun. Must be pretty windy to get it all the way over here.
