Diaclone Battle Convoy is real cool and I'm planning to get myself 2 of them (brand new and unused) from Japan in the near future. I aso realise that Diaclone Battle Convoy is now very hard to find anywhere in the West and very expensive too

Wo, I think most of the Diaclones had different colour schemes to the later transformers but Prime looks EXACTLY the same, except for the diaclone sign on the trailer. Hey also isn't that Jazz at 0:08? Or on the right at 0:15?
Transformers was based on a japanese toy line. It wasn't a cartoon until the toys were shipped to the states where the cartoon was made to attract a bigger audience. That's probably why the G1 Shockwave and Jetfire are slightly modified Macross toys.
ahh back in the day when optimus actually had a trailer. i miss that. seriously what happened to the trailer in the toys. the only other one i know of is the armada one but that was a necessary part of his transformation
Yeah even my 4 year old nephew prefers that. He's seen all the "red trucks" (Optimus Primes) but the only one he's always asking to play with is the one with the trailor. He loves the trailer. It's his favorite.
I used to have a few of the Diakrons, or Diaclones as people call them today. I had a few of them, even one like Iron Hide, but it was painted black. When Transformers came out, I recognized the same body styles, just painted different. I really wished I had them still. I remember the little guys that came with the toys that were metal bodies, plastic limbs and had magnets on thier feet.
God I loved this type of animation (it's stop motion right?) took me right back to the years of TUGS (Whoever can remember that) and thunderbirds, etc. TF Rules!
between my friends and i we had just about every transformer and gi joe.... we would go out in the woods and set up a huge battle royal... i was always cobra/decepticons. good times... good times.
I love these old Diaclone ads. Awesome "Battle Convoy" of 5 'Optimus Primes' in the heat-hazed road. How crazy is the upright base mode for the trailer section, complete with little human drivers! The sound effects & animation rule too!
Sounds like me... I did have fun building a few buildings as a kid out of leggos, where a transformer would like be hurled into a building smashing one side... I would take like a hour building a town, and 2 minutes wrecking it. I totally remember the jungles, I alwasys said to myself... how did these kids build this set?
Dude! That's what I used to do! I had those giant sized fischer-price building blocks, so I ended up with towers my height. Megatron and his buddies had a lot of fun knocking that down... TF #1
If they made ads like this in America some dumb ass would sue for false advertising once they would find out the toys won't move on their own. I live among fools.
I bet they would have to put a discalimer under it saying "Robots do not move on own" also they might have to put in ther "sold seperately," and "does not fly" and lightning sparks do not happen :D"
The Saturday morning network versions of Transformer commercials were different in that they showed all the parts of the toy laid out against a plain background.
They really put effort and money into making this, in contrast to the cheap Hasbro counterparts with annoying kids moving the toys around to save budget.
Oh waiiiit, yeah yeah, he was the twin that actually had a modification, a rarity. I guess I just never found a tow truck that cool to play with and forgot about it. ^^
I think in America showing him transforming on his own would be considered false advertising... -_-; Awesome commercial, though. I thought his name was always Convoy in Japanese?
Yep, all the Optimus Related characters are named Convoy in the japanese Transformers, the only non-Optimus with the name "Convoy" is R.I.D. Scourge, named "Black Convoy" G1 Optimus = Convoy G2 Laser Rod Optimus = Battle Convoy Optimus Primal = Beast Convoy Optimal Optimus = Metals Convoy R.I.D. Optimus = Fire Convoy/Super Fire Convoy R.I.D. Omega Prime = God Fire Convoy Armada Optimus = STD Convoy Energon Optimus = Grand Convoy Cybertron Optimus = Galaxy Convoy R.I.D. Scourge = Black Convoy
WTF WHY ARE THERE 5 OPTIMUS PRIMES!!?? D=<

Before Hasbro licensed these, Takara sold a few pre-Autobot cars in the USA as "Diakron," which didn't do so well. I remember them at K-Mart.

Well... I think if Hasbro hadn't made the series, TF would have been all like the masterforce saga

That's true in the Diaclone story the robots were controlled by people and didn't have personalities.
